Southland Tales was prophetic in alot of ways.
Thing is ST is very openly beholden to paranoid 60s scifi, explicitly Philip K Dick, so it's retrofuturism that just ended up coming true. All the stuff happening now was obviously coming to writers in the 50s. 80s Cyberpunk as reality is just around the corner.
Thinking Southland Tales is ahead of it's time is stupid. It's exactly of it's time and just extrapolates an already stupid and fricked situation slightly further out. Also, the movie is fricking dogshit.
