This saved my life. I broke my laptop screen and can't afford the repair currently. So I use a PC screen plugged to my laptop with HDMI.
But I have to put the whole setup on my bed.
So I'm just watching kinos and workling on my bed. And can't lay on my bed the usual way I lay on the side and leave my feet hanging while sleeping.

Exactly. Why would I want bloatware, paid subscription apps, and microphones when all I need is a screen to plug into my laptop and gain a second monitor to play my torrents and streams.

I'm browsing Cinemaphile on my laptop that is connected to my tv through an HDMI cable.

Why is Cinemaphile so fricking tech literate? Smart TVs are terrible compared to a dedicated computer.

what is the best laptop to do this with and how long can the cable be?

      Get a mini PC.

      wait what seriously?

      No.

I got completely filtered by the fact that my computer might be too old to connect to my new tv. The aspect ratio cannot be output to my tv completely so the movies and shows I try to watch are too small on my tv. Its watchable but it sucks Cinemaphile 🙁

Just change the settings in the graphics card settings like Nvidia control panel or Radeon Catalyst. Otherwise you just need to change the settings on your TV.

Top zozzle. My desk is in the living room of my apartment and my 65" 4K tv is hooked up as a second monitor. I literally just fire up the movie in VLC, drag the window over to the TV, and then double click to go fullscreen.

I picked up one of those cheapo $20 tiny wireless keyboard/touchpad combo devices so I can pause/rewind/whatever from my couch.

You can always tell someone is average at best if what constitutes a girl getting "the ick" and no longer wanting to suck your dick is something as fickle as your entertainment setup. Attractive people don't have to worry about shit like only having $17 for dinner, or plugging their laptop into the TV and getting rejected for it. Literally just doesn't happen.
