I could never tell if Peter Chung was genuinely indulging in these fetishes or if he was just being weird/gross on purpose. Same with that kissing scene early on. It gives the same vibes as those weird shots from the Rugrats pilot where you see things from the perspective of inside the character's mouths, looking out.
It was pushing the envelope of what he could get away with on tv. I remember one interview where he talks about the uncensored sex scene they managed to keep intact.
>gets a nail stuck in her boot >ultimately why she dies >goes to heaven or some shit where she has someone lick her feet
Okay... i kind of follow. But why is the world suddenly obssessed with feet?
This shit is amazing. I love how every detail has a purpose. I remember one scene where a pilot falls into sewer water and his helmet antenna gets caught on his gun. and he can't turn his head or get up so he just fricking drowns.
If you ask me, "War" is a masterclass of storytelling. It makes you immediately sympathize with a character, who then quickly gets killed by a new 'main' character. It's amazing.
There has been a live action TV show reboot in development for years now for Paramount Plus, headed by the Teen Wolf guy. They've had a writers room for a few years now and the pilot is written, taking long as frick over there
I've seen the movie and it is ass. People like it if they want an ok sci-fi dystopia Matrix ripoff but it is not Aeon Flux.
They do too much dumbing down the characters and their relationships to make it easier for audiences: ie Trevor now has a brother who is the more evil one so you know who is bad and you feel better when Trevor and Aeon like each other!
The nice thing I can say about the movie is some of the locations look nice and some of it is shot nice, I don't think live action is impossible but the only problem is they need to commit to being unapologetically weird and a little offputting which is always at odds with mainstream Hollywood. Would be better if they gave us more Peter Chung with his creation instead

It’s a bad Aeon Flux adaptation AND a bad sci-fi movie.

I did like how they explained the "death/rebirth" thing the animated series left kind of ambiguous. The DNA of a society caught in a loop and degrading over time. Like a B+ episode plot of the Outer Limits or something.
Prediction:
It will get 5 episodes that everyone will fricking hate because they will make aeon some hyper smart feminist lesbian figure who solves crimes and fights the evil patriarchy. She'll be the leader of some sort of rebel military faction and she'll always have a smarmy wienery quip when people question her decisions. Trevor will be a stand-in for a republican dipshit, and the plots will be incredibly facile. Fans will be pissed and the only people who will pretend to like it will have never been fans of the original show. The only references to the original show will be superficial nods by either naming a computer the name of one of the characters or something stupid like that, or they'll make occasional meta jokes referencing the animated series. Soon after release, the show will be cancelled and vaulted for a tax break.
There's archives of old Aeon Flux fan forums going back to the late 90s with people talking about this episode giving really thought out takes on it back and forth and some of the writers chiming in saying they don't even know, it's some fun old internet shit right there.
They'd frick it up. They tried to do a live action film and it was fricking awful. They completely Tank Girl'ed it. The people who work on these things have no idea what the original IP is about nor what makes it good, and they use it as an empty container to fill with their shitty sci fi ideas that couldn't have been been made on their own. In Tank Girl it was some water shortage and corporate hoarding bullshit, in Æon Flux, it was cloning and genetic degredation.
I love Æon Flux and wish we could get more weird surreal adult animation that doesn't rely on fart/dick jokes and sitcom formats, but rebooting it is NOT the answer. They'll ignore all the shit that made it cool and insert new stuff that will make it suck.
>Although Peter Chung was initially optimistic about the film and was impressed with the sets,[10] he ultimately described it as "a travesty," adding:
>"I was unhappy when I read the script four years ago; seeing it projected larger than life in a crowded theatre made me feel helpless, humiliated, and sad. ...[The movie's creators] claim to love the original version; yet they do not extend that faith to their audience. No, they will soften it for the public, which isn't hip enough to appreciate the raw, pure, unadulterated source like they do."
>Chung primarily objected to the film's portrayal of Æon and Trevor, and their re-imagined history and relationship. He said, "Ms. Flux does not actually appear in the movie."
>Screenwriters Hay and Manfredi said in an interview that the film was re-cut by the studio prior to release, but that the original director's cut contains nearly 30 minutes of additional footage, which Chung acknowledged in his criticism.
Makes me wonder if we'll ever get to see a director's cut?
It's insane how much Western animation apes Anime but fails to capture any of the spirit instead just copying sorry "referencing" scenes and iconic moments but Chung has that spirit in spades goddamn
Hey I can dream. He never got to do the Aeon Flux segment for the cancelled Heavy Metal 3D movie (which became Love, Death, & Robots), would be cool if that got repurposed into a direct to streaming movie or something, not that anybody would want to spend money on auteur adult animation these days. I love Beavis and Butthead, but that's the only type of adult animation they're spending money on for streaming as it's probably much cheaper.
And the name of this show is?
Peter Chung’s Magnum Opus
>Aeon Flux is forgotten media now
No its not.
I have it on UMD.
I love FFFT so much bros
w-what's the cactus for?

It's all fetish shit. They had to normalize pornography at the time. The excuse was being "edgy" but the plan was always that of degrading people.
>degrading
He helped design the characters on Rugrats and directed the pilot.
i got the impression that a lot of Aeon Flux is just a little grotesque on purpose. Helped by the fact that it started out as a spy v spy style parody
It was pushing the envelope of what he could get away with on tv. I remember one interview where he talks about the uncensored sex scene they managed to keep intact.
The episode with the several spine sex scenes lol
>gets a nail stuck in her boot
>ultimately why she dies
>goes to heaven or some shit where she has someone lick her feet
Okay... i kind of follow. But why is the world suddenly obssessed with feet?
Who was the audience for this?
>he says while posting Steven Universeshit
Sometimes anons post things so disconnected from the conversation I honestly can’t even think of a good insult
Males 12-34
The MTV Generation.
People who like cartoons, I know, crazy
dan schneider
OP. It literally says in the OP.
I don't think most foot fetishists would enjoy this scene.
Thats not even the weirdest fetish in this show.
It’s not?
I still dont understand what the frick happened for this pilot ending or how its supposed to make sense
Aeon's ideal afterlife is having her feet worshipped in paradise by a blue dude with a ribbed tongue that looks just like Trevor lol
based aeon enjoyer
Oh Trevor.
that's some great animation on the stab

I don't think it's that impressive considering how cool every character is making you feel like each could be a main character.

also, new wsg Cinemaphile thread:
What is purpose of the device attached to the front of the cuck box.
Why doesn’t MTV reboot this show?
Why should they? Aeon Flux had a solid run for something so ambitious, both then and now.
Viacom would nuetur the frick out of it.

>live-action
Frick that. Needs to be a trippy action cartoon like the original.
Yeah remember the movie neither do I (I never watched it)

Stop sitting around inventing shit to make yourself mad, it's pathetic
Many anons could stand to hear this.
Still the most confusing episode of all of them.
There's archives of old Aeon Flux fan forums going back to the late 90s with people talking about this episode giving really thought out takes on it back and forth and some of the writers chiming in saying they don't even know, it's some fun old internet shit right there.
Why reboot. Just make more ffs

What did Chung say about the live-action movie?
It made him feel despair
>Although Peter Chung was initially optimistic about the film and was impressed with the sets,[10] he ultimately described it as "a travesty," adding:

is this the thread?
Fascinating series but massively grotesque.
>tfw no Aeon gf
Why even die?
Literally me
W-which one
Cheungkino thread?
If only every TV commercial was pure cinema like this.
A god damn Checkers' ad?!?!?!
>You live in an era where Checkers has better animation than Disney.
Learning he was behind this ad explains a whole damned lot.
This is Aeon Flux? Brilliant ad. What year was it and did it win any Ad Awards????
That patty throw would've made Mr. Krabs proud
That's a fricking dope ad for them to commission, it's sucks the closest one is 100+ miles.
This is the western animation I want
It's insane how much Western animation apes Anime but fails to capture any of the spirit instead just copying sorry "referencing" scenes and iconic moments but Chung has that spirit in spades goddamn
I remember seeing some clips during head bangers ball in MTV2. What was this shit even about? It was always too ugly for me to give it a shot.
Give us more Aeon Flux by Peter Chung plz
Why? It’d be butchered to hell. MTV doesn’t even care about animation anymore.

Reign > Aeon Flux
Did this guy do other shit? Like Monster Babies or King Star King? Animation reminds me of those.
He did design work for Reign: the Conqueror and Phantom 2040.
Now in Rallys form.
Plop!
