it was better for everyone to cancel it now.
shows like this need an emergency 2 part finale script in case of cancellation. I hate it when they cancel shows on cliffhangers, and the studio should have a pretty good idea whether or not they're going to cancel something.
Babylon 5 did that. JMS knew they were getting canceled after Season 4 so he changed things around to complete the show at the end of Season 4.
And guess what? It turned out flawlessly.

It's nicely varied isn't it? The creators are the lead actress along with her husband and their previous works all touch on this cult leader narrative formula. S1 of the OA is the best iteration of it. The final resolution is one of the most compelling articulations of faith and its positive role in personal relationship in tv from the 2010s.

Sucks that they canceled it but everyone could tell the storytelling was a bit random. Any additional season would also just be vague religious symbolism and loose clues and connections that arbitrarily add up to something vague.
