Like a universe with a very grim, almost liefeldian art style and a Finn (of course still wearing the hat) who is all growly and serious. "JAKE" being like an AI support unit or something.
These ones are boring though. Bubbline was cool because Marceline and PB have bite to them. In other words, they're kind of shitty. Marshall and Gary are both too chill.

It's...alright. Definitely plain, non-offensive, and bland. But has a tinge of relatability that appeals to a lot of people who read fanfiction. Like, there's a lot of people who crush on people they see at the store or the coffeeshop and they live out this fantasy through their favorite characters. It's really not that different than someone putting the characters in a high school AU because they like to imagine their crush asking them to the dance or something when they were in school.

Dude, it's a CN cartoon. Maybe you're young but we didn't even think of term of "franchises" back in 2014. A cartoon would have its run, maybe there'd be comics and a videogame if it did well. There was zero expectation that this stuff would last long-term

Not them, but I don't want AT to go on indefinitely. Fionna and Cake is cool because it's giving us some closure on Simon, and is exploring shit the original show didn't get around to. It's a nice balance between being connected to the original show and being something new. Too many spinoffs and the connection to the source material will become so diluted that you may as well make an entirely new show. I'm resigned to the fact we will get a soulless reboot in like ten years that has nothing to do with the current continuity, but at least I can just ignore it.

Now I looked at it, and saw there's more than 10 volumes by the author. I'm being curious again.
In all honesty, a completely new story in a completely new universe with completely new characters that nonetheless is canonically in that "multiverse" and has many of the same things. Like I would be content with a story about some other hero in some universe with Candy Queen or whatever. Like how Frasier was a spinoff from Cheers.
I believed I wanted this but I think I, and maybe this applies to you as well, just wanted to have a similarly creative cartoon come out and can't see too much creativity on the horizon otherwise.

Yes, to me Wizard City represents AT's rich potential as a setting not tied to any characters in particular. You could have it run forever and not get stale since you could just rotate characters, locations, themes etc in and out. Also Cadebra a cute.

The one point of contention that might prevent the ship from actually sailing is that she's a genderbent version of a guy Simon-as-IK knew at 13. Muto and Ryan Shannon have referred to Fionna as early 30s. If we're going off Finn's age at 17 by the end, and 12 years have passed, Fionna would be 29/30.
Fionna was probably 16 in her first appearance while Finn was 13. OG series ends 4 years later putting her at 20. Her show starts 12 years later making her 32.
This. I'll never understand why "Breezy" is shat on the most out of Adventure Time's entire library. I actually liked Finn & FP's falling out and found it interesting, but "Red Throne" was a legit chore to sit through because it was just that dragging and unfunny.

PB camera probes his head, but he’s very lucid after that
The worst thing about Breezy is it undoes a major status quo change that you have to put up with till s8. I agree that Red Throne is the worst ep ever but you can also skip it and it won't affect the rest of the show. If you skip Breezy you'll still have content with the fact that Finn's arm is back for a large chunck of episodes.
It's a damn good show. I bridged the whole show a couple of years a good and liked it all the way through. There's a bad episode every once in a while but they're 11 minute episodes, a good one will be right afterwards.

He was older than Finn, did a lot of crazy shit, and in the mainline series he was b***hin about how the stretchy tricks were getting tougher. He either fumbled at a critical moment or just died of old.

Clever that they lean into the fan fiction element (except it's really Prismo's fanfic which is cute). It's MUCH better than it sounds on paper, "fujo SOL into isekai multiverse genderswap adventure of the main thing" would be a death sentence in any other case, but it works here and it's really good

I wouldn't really say it feels that much like classic Adventure Time, it's dealing with much heavier themes and pretty plot focused. It also is heavily based on the original series so it's not like a new spinoff you can easily jump into.
Also male Bubbline is as gay as ever but that's it, and (so far at least) they've barely related to the main plot.

I'm resigned to the fact we will get a soulless reboot in like ten years that has nothing to do with the current continuity, but at least I can just ignore it.

In all honesty, a completely new story in a completely new universe with completely new characters that nonetheless is canonically in that "multiverse" and has many of the same things. Like I would be content with a story about some other hero in some universe with Candy Queen or whatever. Like how Frasier was a spinoff from Cheers.
I believed I wanted this but I think I, and maybe this applies to you as well, just wanted to have a similarly creative cartoon come out and can't see too much creativity on the horizon otherwise.

The worst thing about Breezy is it undoes a major status quo change that you have to put up with till s8. I agree that Red Throne is the worst ep ever but you can also skip it and it won't affect the rest of the show. If you skip Breezy you'll still have content with the fact that Finn's arm is back for a large chunck of episodes.
It's a damn good show. I bridged the whole show a couple of years a good and liked it all the way through. There's a bad episode every once in a while but they're 11 minute episodes, a good one will be right afterwards.

I'm the same way. And yeah, you should give it a go. The show does change a bit as it goes along, but if you're not getting anything out of the first season then just drop it.

I don't hate it as much as I thought I would, but ultimately this is just a mediocre SF/fantasy set in the same multiverse. Clever that they lean into the fan fiction element (except it's really Prismo's fanfic which is cute). But so far it's missing the AT whimsy which except for the last couple of seasons was a prime element

I wouldn't really say it feels that much like classic Adventure Time, it's dealing with much heavier themes and pretty plot focused. It also is heavily based on the original series so it's not like a new spinoff you can easily jump into.
Also male Bubbline is as gay as ever but that's it, and (so far at least) they've barely related to the main plot.
Without Roiland there's just no way it can work man.
