Yeah true, but thats mostly because after Finn finds out who Ice King actually is and Marcy finally accepting Simon as being stuck as Ice King, Ice King gets new friends. Finn and Jake slowly become his buddies and so does Marcy alongside a few other Characters. Ice King became happier and more behaved now that he had proper friends.
It all really makes the return of Simon more tragic cause goodguy Ice King happy with life died so a miserable Simon could take his place. Honestly it was sad to see Ice King say "im a special person worthy of respect" when all Betty can think about is destroying him.

I think that the next episodes will involve Simon tryna get the crown from farmland Fnn, and that the series will end with Simon staying Simon, and Fionna and Cake coming to appreciate her mundane little life and return to it. I really don't think that was a bad thing for him, in the long run. Sure, he went for 1000 years without Betty but it's not like she would have been able to survive more than another 50 years (if the Nuclear war and aftermath didn't just take her out) so Simon likely would have that trauma on top of whatever else was going on in his head as Ice King.
Betty is at least alive in some capacity and cured Simon of his insanity, as much as he's starting to think it was a good thing, giving him a chance at the most normal life he could have after the crown botched it up.
Also Marcy may or may not have died without Simon becoming her adopted dad, or at least become a much worse individual than she already is. Hell maybe AU Marcy went evil because Simon died protecting her.

Though it's not very clear when a new universe is created and when the existing uni/multiverse is simply altered.

There was a two second moment (1:00) in the finale montage where a gem just falls out of his face. Also it's not as much that Gunter wanted to be Ice King, it's that the crown transforms anyone to be how Bobby Hillizard viewed Evergreen.
So this whole "becoming Ice King again" thing is really just him trying to commit "suicide" by not existing anymore? Think they'll show Jake's death in a flashback or reference the destruction his body left on the world?
This is the only thing that's actually bothered me so far.
To me, Finn's tattoo + Jake's absence in Obsidian was a very clear foreshadowing of Jake's death, which Together Again delivered on. I understand that this not being the case isn't a "plot hole," but if you take the fact that Finn was palling around with Bronwyn as well as with TV in this series, it would seem clear that he's treating them as Jake substitutes--but actually, now it's just a coincidence I guess.
The other thing is, as another anon pointed out, this location in the sky (lower right) was a reference to an unused location from season 1 (lower left). That makes it all the more strange that they didn't stick with Finn + Jake's age from the planning stages (upper left), as that would have made it seem like it really did happen in the season 1 era after all. But more importantly, they wouldn't have even had to show a tattooed Finn running around with Jake.

Josei ai and GL are terms that never existed in Japan, all of it is grouped under yuri which yes, includes porn written by straight dudes.
Yuri isn't the lesbian counterpart to yaoi as both terms came about in different circumstances. "Yuri" was coined in the gay mens magazine Barazoku(rose tribe) where a writer jokingly calls the female equivalent Yurizoku(lily tribe), lesbians ran with it and the word "yuri" became heavily associated with lesbianism. So if anything yuri is the closest female equivalent to bara, not yaoi.
Meanwhile the term "yaoi" in Japan is almost never used seriously, fujos just call their gay shit BL. There's no lesbian equivalent of BL because most straight guys don't like lesbians. BL is a thing because it's a massive phenomenon of many otaku women creating and consuming fiction about gay men and the content is drastically different from works aimed at actual gay men. 90% of straight male otaku just consume hetero works.
This does create a bit of a problem where yuri made by straight men for straight men get grouped in with works made by lesbians, it doesn't help when there's yuri in shounen/seinen magazines but they're intended for general audiences. I do think there should be some extra terms for specification. But it's a huge misconception that yuri is primarily for men.

I mean, it's kind of understandable. Jake is his brother, his best friend, and in some capacities his parent. That's just love? When you really love someone who passes away, you never really stop missing them. Really hits close to home if someone you love has passed away. I thought it was really touching when Jake basically gave up nirvana just to be reincarnated with Finn.
Missing someone and never not missing them is most certainly different from always dwelling on it and wanting to die your entire life when you reunite with them.
I do think it's realistic for people to never get over a close death, especially when it's someone's most important person like Jake was to Finn, there also are people who can move on and focus on living life so Finn wasn't always fated to be this way. It's just the more depressing writing decision they made.
I assume he moved on at some point (obviously later than this series and obsidian) and just turned back down that path because he finally had the opportunity

Finn and Jake slowly become his buddies and so does Marcy alongside a few other Characters. Ice King became happier and more behaved now that he had proper friends.
It all really makes the return of Simon more tragic cause goodguy Ice King happy with life died so a miserable Simon could take his place. Honestly it was sad to see Ice King say "im a special person worthy of respect" when all Betty can think about is destroying him.
Betty and Simon's eternal chase for each other is sad in general, literally whenever they get close they get cosmically far apart
I just hope Simon gets a happy ending, whatever that is. The over decade long tragedy of Ice King deserves a happy end, its honestly the last closure I really need regarding the Adventure Time series.

Betty is at least alive in some capacity and cured Simon of his insanity, as much as he's starting to think it was a good thing, giving him a chance at the most normal life he could have after the crown botched it up.

I don't think the wishes have to be new realities, but your wish can create one and it feels like there has to be some intent to the wishes.
Otherwise, he could have created realities where Magicman would have been able to find Margles and Simon would have been able to find Betty or a reality where something that could find them existed, but it's beyond his powers.
If it were that simple to have taken out the Lich, I think Prismo would have been enough of a bud to have helped Finn and Jake take care of that problem when he altered reality to it's prior state and not changed the Lich's request, and sent him to the neither.
See thats were Prismo's monkeys paw works. Lich wishes for the destruction of all life, but he didn't specify all life in the multiverse or not. Prismo could and probably did just make a universe were only single cellular life existed and it got wiped out. No sentient multicellular beings dying or whatsoever. Prismo seems like the kinda guy to give Lich the most unsatisfactory wish ever.
Prismo having a diagram suggests there's a finite number of universes, and the Lich could have found a way back to him after killing everything in one of them. Jake is still a hero.
Wishes don't always create new universes. And it's heavily implied that the Lich's didn't, because Prismo said the only reason Finn and Jake survived the Lich's wish is because they were in his time room. Though it's not very clear when a new universe is created and when the existing uni/multiverse is simply altered.

Those flashbacks were when he was in the process of becoming Ice King and had a normal lifespan. This Simon exists after almost a 1000 years of being trapped inside his own mind and once he becomes free he loses his fiancé and is stuck in a radically different world he cant fit into at all. Of course he's going to be a different person than the Simon from the flashbacks.
Not to mention that everyone kept telling him that they liked him better when he was the ice king.

This is the only thing that's actually bothered me so far.
To me, Finn's tattoo + Jake's absence in Obsidian was a very clear foreshadowing of Jake's death, which Together Again delivered on. I understand that this not being the case isn't a "plot hole," but if you take the fact that Finn was palling around with Bronwyn as well as with TV in this series, it would seem clear that he's treating them as Jake substitutes--but actually, now it's just a coincidence I guess.
The other thing is, as another anon pointed out, this location in the sky (lower right) was a reference to an unused location from season 1 (lower left). That makes it all the more strange that they didn't stick with Finn + Jake's age from the planning stages (upper left), as that would have made it seem like it really did happen in the season 1 era after all. Yuri isn't the lesbian counterpart to yaoi as both terms came about in different circumstances. "Yuri" was coined in the gay mens magazine Barazoku(rose tribe) where a writer jokingly calls the female equivalent Yurizoku(lily tribe), lesbians ran with it and the word "yuri" became heavily associated with lesbianism. So if anything yuri is the closest female equivalent to bara, not yaoi.
Meanwhile the term "yaoi" in Japan is almost never used seriously, fujos just call their gay shit BL. There's no lesbian equivalent of BL because most straight guys don't like lesbians. BL is a thing because it's a massive phenomenon of many otaku women creating and consuming fiction about gay men and the content is drastically different from works aimed at actual gay men. 90% of straight male otaku just consume hetero works.
This does create a bit of a problem where yuri made by straight men for straight men get grouped in with works made by lesbians, it doesn't help when there's yuri in shounen/seinen magazines but they're intended for general audiences. I do think there should be some extra terms for specification. But it's a huge misconception that yuri is primarily for men.

I lost my cat and best friend not long ago and I get that feeling way too much. It's hard but you really do have to find other things to live for. Especially if you are prone to depression.
I mean, it's kind of understandable. Jake is his brother, his best friend, and in some capacities his parent. That's just love? When you really love someone who passes away, you never really stop missing them. Really hits close to home if someone you love has passed away. I thought it was really touching when Jake basically gave up nirvana just to be reincarnated with Finn.
Missing someone and never not missing them is most certainly different from always dwelling on it and wanting to die your entire life when you reunite with them.
I do think it's realistic for people to never get over a close death, especially when it's someone's most important person like Jake was to Finn, there also are people who can move on and focus on living life so Finn wasn't always fated to be this way. It's just the more depressing writing decision they made.
I assume he moved on at some point (obviously later than this series and obsidian) and just turned back down that path because he finally had the opportunity
