No kid in America grows up with the myth of the philosopher's stone. That title just sound boring and give kids no clue that the book has anything to do with magic.
1 and 2 were peak "comfy" indeed.
However I think Harry Potter as a whole peaked at 3 and 4 when it comes to world building and character relationships.
Agree that Prisoner of Azkaban is peak HP. That scene with Harry waiting for his dad to save his past self from the Dementors to then realise it gad been his Patronus all along is probably my favorite scene in the franchise
80% of one's enjoyment of the HP films comes from seeing all the top tier British actors absolutely running rings around the three kids even though they're just supporting characters.
>watched Chamber of Secrets last night with the whole family for Christmas viewing >everyone agrees it's one of the best ones >we pause it just before the Aragog bit because the film is too fricking long and you still have an hour left at that point >no one else wants to watch the rest
reeeeeeeeeee
David Yates was the worst thing that could possibly happen to the series.
He didn't understand colour.
He didn't understand magic.
He didn't understand comedy.
He didn't understand romance.
He didn't understand actors.
Only absolute slop gobblers think his movies are anything more than barely watchable.
3 is literally the peak no matter what you say
it's one of the best adventure fantasies for kids ever made not only in the 2000s imo
perhaps you'd argue first 2 are better harry potter movies but 3 got beyond that so not shit at all
ABSOLUTELY. I'll never forgive it for cutting out the last time Quidditch was ever really important to Harry's life, and I'll always be disgusted at the way it muggled everything down. This was the last movie where the students bothered to wear wizards robes, for Merlin's sake.

I'm 32 and the movies pretty much lined up perfectly with me growing up. I was in elementary school when they were just small children in the first two movies. For the last movie I had just graduated high school. That makes the series a comfy rewatch for me.
They were amazing because they have set the tone for sequels, established the atmosphere and made the viewers anxious for the next iteration.
I remember being marveled by the world shown to me, as a kid, and I would eager to see the new classes, teachers, creatures and spells.
The movies being launched at christmas time just added to the magic.
It worked until the 4th movie or so. Then it all turned to teen goyslop.
Aye.
3 and 4 were watchable imo
The rest after, especially the last two were fricking dogshit
4 was camp
common knowledge
just rewatched the first one, it was kinda bad with the shitty acting from the kids
whats smegal doing in harry potter
exchange student
why didn't chris columbus stick around for the rest? did he not want to, or was he ousted?
Read that he didn't like traveling and the commitment it required to be away from home. Richard Harris dying also hit the franchise
>sorcerer's stone
this will never stop being funny to me I've know about this for at least a decade but it still makes me laugh every time
philosophers stone doesn't make sense
why the frick not
>philosophers stone
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosopher%27s_stone
This confuses and angers the American
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosopher%27s_stone
that's why it doesn't make sense
>It is also called the elixir of life, useful for rejuvenation and for achieving immortality;
are you dumb?
except the stone does whatever you want in the movie
No, it gives you eternal life in the movie.
are you thinking about that mirror?
Rowling borrowing a mythical object for her books? She does it all the time.
No kid in America grows up with the myth of the philosopher's stone. That title just sound boring and give kids no clue that the book has anything to do with magic.
It's weird most kids don't know the basic tenets of alchemy.
>I was a weird kid let me cope.
why?
Right on
Spot on. First two movies are wonderful escapist fantasy movies for children.
The rest are action movies for teenagers.
1 and 2: comfy and soulful
3: kino
4, 5, 6: forgettable
7.1 and 7.2: slop
1 and 2 were peak "comfy" indeed.
However I think Harry Potter as a whole peaked at 3 and 4 when it comes to world building and character relationships.
5 was also good at world building, the sixth book also has a nice gothic mystery vibe to it
Agree that Prisoner of Azkaban is peak HP. That scene with Harry waiting for his dad to save his past self from the Dementors to then realise it gad been his Patronus all along is probably my favorite scene in the franchise
The first film is kind of shit
The kids can't act at all, it's all so cringe
NOT ME
NOT HERMIONE
IT HAS TO BE YOU HARRY
To be fair, Ron was easily the best of the cast
absolutely not
From the kids? Yes

You couldn't pause it at the butteflies
That's literally exactly where we paused it. I was annoyed, Aragog is the best part
These two plus the first Narnia are comfykino.

So true. The third one set a bad precedent for the rest of the series. I've never understood why its considered the best one by so many people.
The 3rd one's directorwas doing something completely different, it's not his fault Yates just copied him
i have to assume it's lingering affection for the book... until book 6 it's the last time harry has a year where he's not a social pariah
start out by saying why you do not think it is the best one
The duality of Cinemaphile
David Yates went far beyond what they did in the third movie though.
ABSOLUTELY. I'll never forgive it for cutting out the last time Quidditch was ever really important to Harry's life, and I'll always be disgusted at the way it muggled everything down. This was the last movie where the students bothered to wear wizards robes, for Merlin's sake.

3 is just time travel schlock
I'm 32 and the movies pretty much lined up perfectly with me growing up. I was in elementary school when they were just small children in the first two movies. For the last movie I had just graduated high school. That makes the series a comfy rewatch for me.
3 is still comfy even if it's tonally diff to the first 2. for me, it's the winter scenes, hogsmeade and the marauders map
bashing on 3 is pure homosexualry
you're all homosexuals

Based and truthpilled. Alfonso Cuaron's cringe irrevocably tainted the franchise.
