First Blood is the most underrated 80s film. Bar none.

>released in 1982
>do well in box office and with audiences
>spawn 4 sequels
>subtle tension and slow burn opening completely dropped in favor of dumb action that will define the franchise
>have emotional gut punch ending that nobody ever talks about because nobody has ever seen this movie
>grounded setting and characters that haven't aged a day since release, unlike some other films in the franchise

Seriously, why do people not talk about this movie? Seriously gotta be one of the best films released of that decade. Part II and III can't dream of holding a candle to the emotional weight that First Blood has.

Fricking uncultured swine man.

Mate, no one talks about this movie. The only ones who know its worth are the ones who've actually bothered to sit down and watch it, and that's not a lot of people.

Zoomers haven't seen anything though. Some of them haven't even seen Star Wars or Jurassic Park but they know every YouTube channel with over 30m subs.

For me it's part 3 because of all the hilarious dialogues.

    >have emotional gut punch ending
Because the monologue was based on actual stories from real Vietnam vets suffering from PTSD.
Sly can on occasion write some really good shit.

I feel like he put out better stuff earlier in his career, but over time he settled into the action hero trope a little too much.

Even Arnie did some comedies in between the action movies.

I agree anon. It’s too good even for its sequels. Don’t get me wrong i like 2 and 3, but nothing will ever top first blood

Indeed. It's nice that we got some dumb action flicks out of it, but First Blood is a classic that stands high above everything that came after.

      At release.

It did well at release. And then promptly got overshadowed by its sequels.

lol almost everytime I look at the Cinemaphile catalog there's a first blood thread with this exact picture. Now the threads are 99% crying and arguing about America but still.

After First Blood came out I was always looking and waiting for more movies with vietnam flashbacks and booby traps in the jungle.

    >why does nobody talk about Rambo
Because the sequels make everyone think that the franchise is just about mindless carnage. Also, the current viewpoint of Vietnam is pretty wholly negative, to the point where I don't think even a realistic portrayal of a vet suffering from PTSD would be received well by normies these days.

    >Seriously, why do people not talk about this movie?
Because everyone agrees it's a great movie. And it's old enough where contrarian zoomers don't go "lol movi gay" to get easy replies. It's in the Cinemaphile criterion collection.

They want us to forget the past and those who participated in it, and focus on next product.

Unless they fought in WWII, then suddenly you should never ever ever forget about vets ever.

        obligatory not that anon

the question is "why" when the sequels are such mindless superhero slop and give you nothing to think about while the first does a decent job of presenting a somewhat realistic and emotionally compelling story of a traumatized and misunderstood individual... frick it why am i responding to this crap anyway

          No no you're right.

Action movies were the superhero slop of the 80s. Iron Man managed to balance the emotional aspects of Tony Stark's character pretty well with the action, but because it did well, it spawned the goyslop that we have now.

Shit is no different than critiquing Half Life on Cinemaphile or Cardcaptor on Cinemaphile. Too flawless so nothing to piss people off about unless you try to meme shit instead. We all know it's maximum American kino, the points of contention are so minimal we can't even get an echo chamber circle jerk going because there's no one to be our hypothetical opposing side.
