    "Strong" for California liberals =
    1. out of her depth
    2. she gets away with it

that's what they think strength is. strength for them is not from within, it happens to you.
It falls into your lap when you act bold, especially when/if your boldness is not warranted

      > Emotionally volatile and self centered
      > Incredibly selfish and uses “Muh daughter” as excuse to focus on her work obsession.
      > Neglects relationships and takes advantage of loved ones in childhood and adulthood
      > Kills multiple people through selfishness without any regard for them.
      > Directly responsible for killing someone she could’ve easily saved
      > steals a pass from an innocent man potentially dooming him to ruination or death
      > is bad at her job despite that being her solo obsession
      > Constantly mean and b***hy to everyone friend or foe
      > so incompetent she almost kills her entire survivor camp and gets her husband who she doesn’t love potentially killed.
      > her paranoia gets her daughter kidnapped when she could’ve been safe

Why did Netflix think anyone would root for this “hero”?

Dry, bad acting. She might as well be saying the lines in front of a mirror in her hotel room.

I just assume anything Netflix puts out is intended to be inflammatory and "controversial". And it works.

At least the writers were consistent in making her obnoxious and terrible as both a kid and adult. The opening scenes with her just being an absolute b***h as a teenager had me rolling his eyes.

Honestly, I stopped caring about secondary characters from the amount of times she takes advantage of help and then leaves these people behind to die because the show must go on and she's the protagonist.
      also
      >treats the ship as her safe haven for several episodes, while she's away
      >barely comes back and already brings zombie into her fricking room in front of her daughter
      >proceeds to examine zombie and provoke it with blood and shit while the kid freely runs around
not to mention in her teenage years
      >knows her sister is about to turn into a zombie
      >yeah lets go to a crowded party without any authorities or daddy around, because Billie wants to "die with a bang" instead of spending her last moments being locked in a lab, fully knowing she won't simply drop dead

Really put it into perspective when you get to episode 8. It becomes apparent that the only two real characters in the show are Billie and Jade. Everyone else is window dressing. By episode 8 every character has either died (Albert, Arjun, Simon, Richard Baxter,) had their agency stripped like Evelyn or is just gunned down or eaten like the faceless Umbrella mooks or useless survivors. Their is zero character development for anyone but Jade really.
Writers also totally miss opportunities to ground and humanize Jade by either making her so selfish that she’s a villain or by making stupid frick gags that destroy the scene. She could’ve seen Richard’s real kids and helped save him by realizing that he’s a human too trying to help his family in a shitty situation caused by her, but no they’re dogs (lmao) and she just straight up kills him instead.
Jade is constantly written as a villain but is portrayed as virtuous hero who everyone loves. Totally jarring writing.

when adult Billie tells her "it's the Jade show!" it felt ridiculous, the writers think they're brilliant by going meta and acknowledging how shit the writing is, but all it shows is that they are aware of how terrible it is and just throw an excuse of "it's supposed to be shit! even the characters themselves are noticing it LOL"

      >oh noes, our dad needs blood samples from us to stay alive?
      >OMFGGGG THIS IS COMPLETELY UNNACCEPTABLE DIE DIE DIE UR NOT MY DAD ANYMORE
are these writers somehow implying you shouldn't take care of your elderly diseased parents? that they are exploiting you for being dependent?
do these prostitutes not know how expensive some medicine is for all of grandma's -osis and -itis? I'd rather donate blood to keep my parents alive instead of expensive meds or treatments in some godforsaken place miles away from home.

They didn't really portray her positively either, she just has YAAAS QUEEN magic powers to make people do what she wants.
Why did she and her sister refer to their "dad" when they know it's actually their uncle?
