The movie even ends with him embracing his fans on social media, i.e. the ones who want Birdman 4. He's literally soaring at the end.

I was convinced that either 1. he was going to have to murder his mother to preserve continuity, (which is why they never saw the attacker) or 2. they restore the footage of his father looking for the soup and it's actually him in the past (which is why they had that shot of the camera looking at him) and that maybe his dad actually was the murderer, either way I'm convinced they had one of these endings already shot before they changed it
