>he already was a thing in the original
Gotta make her stand out more as a main character, you don't want her blending into the background because she's no longer a background character
Why are you blaming the artist when the problem is actually the writers? The redesign is just a way to make them feel like new characters (of course that doesn't mean they are great), because the writers are lazy fricks who couldn't come up with any clone that wasn't already in the original series.
>dishonest garbage , the writing makes the character
Visuals play a sizable part in how a character is perceived when you're dealing with a visual medium
You're thinking of these two. The joke was that the whole episode Patrick was trying to impress them for it to be revealed that they didn't even have a son and just forgot and thought Patrick was their son. The two heads being held up in the image you replied to were Patrick's real parents that showed up at the end of the episode.
There's no need to make her color scheme so eyeburningly bright though. Like I would be fine with her finalized design were the color scheme less painful.
>Thought you were exaggerating >Literally every single design is better
What the frick, have character designers somehow developed taste that's completely antithetical to human preference? Like holy shit.
Uglier is considered better now because it is more "realistic". We've genuinely gone backwards as a society. Fat is healthy, ugly is "cute", and being a medicated barely functional depressive is considered "healthy".
I hate modern day. Dipshits have now psyoped artists to disregard basic aesthetic principles. Isn’t point of fantasy is just escaping reality for moment at a time?
Then yeah her tweet seems to imply that it was a showrunner call. Seems like she wanted her to be goth and they were pushing for a more bubbly personality.
This tweet really gets you into the mind of the people heading the show. Only Topher, the mean one with no willingness to change, is the only one allowed to look conventionally unattractive. It really makes you think that they weren't accepting any design otherwise that wasn't a puke of colors and god awful shapes for the other main cast. She also says Topher was the first accepted and that LordMiller actually saw the design and liked it. Didn't mention this for any other character.

that’s fricking hilarious. i wonder if they were genuinely scratching their heads when they found out topher is the most beloved of the new characters.
is rosa parks in this? I would find it amusing if people were like "Wait, YOU'RE rosa parks? aren't you.. hispanic or something? I mean like yeah back then you wouldn't have gotten to sit in the front of the bus in alabama, but.. you're still not.. BLACK black.."
a lot of us suspect this is absolutely an attempt to drum up more racism. they all wanna be heroes like the people from the 60s they were taught to worship. but it's not the 60s anymore. nobody's getting lynched or thrown off a bus unless it's to steal their money.
it is, it's the racism of low expectations. They have this concept that "White Beauty Standards" means POC have to be ugly and then try and tell us we're racist for not appreciating "their beauty"
Have character designers genuinely lost their minds
Most of this baffling desicions are mostly made by showrunners and producers. Specially when talking about giant studios like Disney. Where they have a very distinct style for their products. And when talking about 3Dgays they give more care that we can feel the pores and wrinkles on a characters face rather than them being aesthetically pleasing.

3D really sucked the soul out of Hollywood animation.
well the problem for starters is that the first iterations are clearly not fit for the kind of "animation" they are going for, this is why they need simpe deformed shapes. And the show/characters look fricking disgusting overall, until real 2d animation doesn't return, you will get this crap
oh okay.....So like, do the new show people understand the joke? That these very important, historical figures, removed from the era's and politics that made them who they were, would just be dumb teenagers and might even be counter-ideological to their progenitor? Like imagine if Harriet Tubman was a villainous character, or if Alexander the Great was a fat slob otaku.
>So like, do the new show people understand the joke?
No. That's why instead of keeping it as a parody of a teen drama they turned it into an unironic teen drama. They missed the point
Confucius was close, or at least the first episode made me think he would give continually shitty advice to Abe and others compared to how wise the real Confucius was.
Dude by all accounts the people who worked on the reboot were kid fans who did not get that the show was meant to parody MTV reality shows.
So no I don't think they understood the joke, or any joke from the original for that matter. They certainly didn't get the joke about Abe and Joan's relationship.
>They just couldn't help but make them stand out with those neon colors.
Because they're supposed to. The showrunners wanted the new characters to contrast with the old ones.
I haven't watched season 2 yet, but I will say that blunting the characters does miss the point. They were total buttholes to each other, but that was a deliberate exaggeration of the teen dramas the show was parodying.
Yes.
The show forgot that it was a parody of teen drama's and how all the characters are dumb jerks.
But it really feels like the new season writers weren't in on the joke and thought it somehow condoned their actions.
She's the new character who resembles her clone parent the most. Unless you don't know who the real Frida is, you can easily guess who she is supposed to be.
WTF I can’t even tell who she suppose to be in the final version. Compare that to almost every other design and it’s just… even 3 at least has attitude. The final design just screams *safe quirky*
Seeing Clone High go from a relatively niche show with a thread here or there, to a shit show whose fans are the same kind of people they were making fun of in S1 is just sad to see.
Seriously, try going into any comment section for this show now and all the discussion will stop short of mental illnesses or sexualities, it's just boring now but in an obnoxious sort of way.
You can tell how the the perception and who was "in" on the joke with the writing of the reboot being in contrast to "fan" reactions >Waah Abe is a dickhead >Waah Joan is best girl >Waah Kennedy is just misunderstood and best choice for Joan
etc.
Not getting the joke that surrounds the characters in a meta sense.
>>Waah Kennedy is just misunderstood and best choice for Joan
This is probably an unpopular opinion but I always thought JFK was a chill dude who couldn't control his temper and was just a horn hound. Having Joan be with him over Lincoln was always what I wanted as a teen.
The thing is JFK COULD be a cool dude, but he's constantly overcompensating for his gay dads and becomes obsessed with being masculine to the point where it drives people away.
She’s just my friend and she said she had a fun time doing her part, hope people aren’t put off by the first and it’s successful because she liked the team and wouldn’t mind doing more for them
>>Waah Abe is a dickhead
People who say this seem to only remember the part where he ignores Joan's feelings out of obliviousness. Forgetting that this is also the same dude that stuck by his pals during a police raid and kissed his bro to prove that his ADD wasn't contagious.
He may be clueless, but he was never really a dickhead.
Man this whole reboot was kind of ass. Christopher Columbus the woke incel was kind of funny at times I guess but it seems like the writers didn't even watch the original show let alone what it was satirising.
Nah, everyone already figured out what happened. It got a new fandom who fundamentally missed the joke and that's who this was made for.
To give you a hint. Remember how JFK nice-guy talked Joan into rebound sex with him in a scene that makes fun of how overdramatic teen dramas have characters constantly swooping in on each other during the rebound, pretending to want love but having ulterior motives?
The new fandom thought that was character development and that JFK actually loved her even when he basically winked at the camera and said "yup, we're doing that stupid twist."
i dont get this shit , she already was a thing in the original and was not a dumb tumblr mess
>he already was a thing in the original
Gotta make her stand out more as a main character, you don't want her blending into the background because she's no longer a background character
ah yes , tey did the exact same shit here
just dishonest garbage , the writing makes the character.
Is this the garbage that they teach at art school?
Why are you blaming the artist when the problem is actually the writers? The redesign is just a way to make them feel like new characters (of course that doesn't mean they are great), because the writers are lazy fricks who couldn't come up with any clone that wasn't already in the original series.
Because the artists are just as clueless, both about the artstyle they're working with and the generation they're trying to represent.
>dishonest garbage , the writing makes the character
Visuals play a sizable part in how a character is perceived when you're dealing with a visual medium
Wasn't the joke in that earlier episode that those two "parents" didn't even have a son?
The heads in that pic are of the actual parents. The fake dad didn't have a mustache, and the fake mom had a beehive.
That doesn't require a conolete overhaul though. At best you go with some slightly less muted colors and you're good.
I think 9 and 10 are the best
I like 8 and 5 the best. I think the pink glasses on 8 are a cool feature and I prefer the hair on 5
Same
>Thought you were exaggerating
>Literally every single design is better

Tumblrinas should not be allowed to make character designs. Everything they make is incredibly ugly.
Why does this keep happening
Have character designers genuinely lost their minds
Tara did the other designs too and those look great tho, was the awful design her call or was it one of the showrunner's decisions?
>those look great tho
Topher. That is it.
I mean the ones in Harriets sheet, really like this one
Then yeah her tweet seems to imply that it was a showrunner call. Seems like she wanted her to be goth and they were pushing for a more bubbly personality.
This tweet really gets you into the mind of the people heading the show. Only Topher, the mean one with no willingness to change, is the only one allowed to look conventionally unattractive. that’s fricking hilarious. i wonder if they were genuinely scratching their heads when they found out topher is the most beloved of the new characters.
That one looks reasonably close to the original style.
Is this just racism.
>can make hot black/brown characters people like
>choose the ugliest caricature designs ever and say it's more realistic
It is racism. I give it 10 to 15 more years before there's an enormous backlash against it, maybe even sooner.
>I give it 10 to 15 more years
I give it two years, tops.
is rosa parks in this? I would find it amusing if people were like "Wait, YOU'RE rosa parks? aren't you.. hispanic or something? I mean like yeah back then you wouldn't have gotten to sit in the front of the bus in alabama, but.. you're still not.. BLACK black.."

You can tell right was approved by toy designers.
Genuine question, why did you think Disney's soulless semi-realistic CG would translate 2d designs well?
Because it does cool shit that actually looks good, sometimes. It's literally the designs that hinder it.
my god he's hot in the concept, how long are we allowing them to commit this blasphemy upon us?
That homie isa femboi
To be fair, he has too sexy of legs. It's indecent
>those legs
bawd!
Damn homie ZESTY
3D really sucked the soul out of Hollywood animation.
Jesus christ
>Could've had delicious chocolate femboy
>Get hyper forgettable schlock instead
PAIN
Tragic.
2D always looks worst in 3D. This is why we say 3DPD
Her being goth is such a great idea with the fact that she's a popular figure because of the UNDERGROUND railroad.
The thing about the new clones is they don't directly read as their clone counterparts.
10 would have been the perfect design to read as harriet tubman.
What we got on the show is some tumblr oc
10 is the best one because it's close enough to the original design
I like #10 the most because it matches the original show's style and version of Harriet.
#7 really nails the zoomer fashion. it's mostly the colours that hurt to look at
for me, it's 11
The earlier designs look so much better, most look so cute and appealing.
Why did they go with the end result, it's so weird compared!?
i hate her dyed hair
well the problem for starters is that the first iterations are clearly not fit for the kind of "animation" they are going for, this is why they need simpe deformed shapes. And the show/characters look fricking disgusting overall, until real 2d animation doesn't return, you will get this crap
whos the guy on the far right?
Confucius
oh okay.....So like, do the new show people understand the joke? No. That's why instead of keeping it as a parody of a teen drama they turned it into an unironic teen drama. They missed the point
I mean, besides Frieda. The new clones Harriet, Confucius, and Columbus are nothing like how they were in the past.
Frieda is the worst in entire new cast.
They certainly didn't get the joke about Abe and Joan's relationship.
tried my hand at a few tweaks for the new guys. mostly focused on toning down the bright colors.
Frida can keep her colors they work for her
I kept hers for the most part, I just made her hair flowers the same color and made her shirt design simpler.
Its already much better
thank you 😀
It's blatantly obvious who the new characters are.
They just couldn't help but make them stand out with those neon colors.
FRICKING WHY.
>They just couldn't help but make them stand out with those neon colors.
Because they're supposed to. The showrunners wanted the new characters to contrast with the old ones.
I hate modern writers but feel sorry for modern atlrtists
Second one is cute.
Harriet and all the new zoomer characters were the best part of s2
I think I like this one the most
Cute!
Cute, would bleach.
Is she right?
abso-fricking-lutely
Funny thing is S1 ALSO felt like a kids cartoon, arguably even more so. S2 just feels like the PPG reboot version.
Looked way better before.
Holy shit 3, 4 and 10 are perfect.
This just makes me more upset about how crap the new kids look.
I can't even identify who half the clones in this new series is supposed to be based on except for Topher.
Not even Frida?
That one gets a pass, but it's not as immediately obvious like the originals and Topher.
She's the new character who resembles her clone parent the most. Unless you don't know who the real Frida is, you can easily guess who she is supposed to be.
Granted I've only seen stuff about her in passing so that might bias me a little bit.
WTF I can’t even tell who she suppose to be in the final version. Compare that to almost every other design and it’s just… even 3 at least has attitude. The final design just screams *safe quirky*
I love this one, with 10 being a close 2nd. Why did they choose the worst?
Seeing Clone High go from a relatively niche show with a thread here or there, to a shit show whose fans are the same kind of people they were making fun of in S1 is just sad to see.
Seriously, try going into any comment section for this show now and all the discussion will stop short of mental illnesses or sexualities, it's just boring now but in an obnoxious sort of way.

Tara needs to start an onlyfans
I don’t think Zach will appreciate that.
>10 was her old look
>And then they went with the worst design of them all.
Kill me.
I know someone who worked on season 2
Share details then!
She’s just my friend and she said she had a fun time doing her part, hope people aren’t put off by the first and it’s successful because she liked the team and wouldn’t mind doing more for them
10 would have worked fine. Literally the same cute head but contains the main element that instantly makes her recognisable as Harriet
didnt she work on long gone gulch designs?
She's the creator. Why would she do this to me?
She's the co-creator
no one likes theater kids
>season 2 showrunner
suddenly not surprised they picked the ugliest designs
They chose the writer of Snowflake Day to be the showrunner... that explains all the gorey scenes
Wait seriously? That was the worst episode, what the frick.
the absolute state of western animation
>Rivinoja
I'd like to apologize for the behalf of Finns for this travesty.
Why are white women so unfunny?
>>Waah Abe is a dickhead
People who say this seem to only remember the part where he ignores Joan's feelings out of obliviousness. Forgetting that this is also the same dude that stuck by his pals during a police raid and kissed his bro to prove that his ADD wasn't contagious.
He may be clueless, but he was never really a dickhead.
You see zoomer women don’t like it when men are even slightly mean to women and will label them as the devil over the slightest misdeed.
>zoomer
>women
Man, I sometimes forget that oldest zoomers are already 23.
This thread made me wonder how many people took the Ponce de Leon episode seriously and how many ended up as writers in the new show.
>oldest zoomers are already 23.
26.
Did it flop, though?
Yeah lol, for being a revival of a show that garnered a lot of interest and a big fan base in 2020 it was forgotten pretty quickly outside of Topher.
How can we make her look as annoying as possible
Man, even the prototype version of her, #1, isn't as ugly to look at.
I like 11, 10, the one next to 5, and the pink glasses that looks like was for 11.

The new fandom thought that was character development and that JFK actually loved her even when he basically winked at the camera and said "yup, we're doing that stupid twist."
That makes sense, figures it was revived off the back of out-of-context JFK clips
