It can be, but by mid season 2 I was feeling good. You need to get used to Archers style of being a captain. Or just watch for the raunchy sexy scenes.
I was pretty surprised when they showed the Vulcan chick laser off her bush after getting crabs on a planet but it definitely hooked me in. Damn shame the fan service stopped after the first season.

Babylon 5 had a complete story planned from the very first episode, which they told then added another season. The aliens are interesting and well acted, the humans are boring and the actors are terrible. And the special effects are shit, even for the early 90's they were bad. Ds9 was better.

You sound like you hate your life and are a bad source for opinions on media. Maybe improve your life and stop giving opinions on media?
I hate DS9 because they thought they could save money by having everything take place on a space station. Problem is that shit boring real fast so they added the Defiant so the crew could go places and started having large scale space battles.
Even worse was Voyager which decided to set it in an area far away and so they had to keep making new aliens and cultures every time.
Eventually the Borg ended up being a large part of the show and introduced 7 of 9 to bring in some sex appeal with Jeri Ryan's skintight suit.
Both shows suck because they were based on bad ideas to start with while I still like to call it Deep Throat 9!!!FACT!!!
See, for me it's Voyager. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware of its flaws BUT
-while every other series was intensely racist (as in ridiculing and villifying aliens for not being human a la Spock, Worf, Data, any Ferengi, any Cardassian, any Romulan, etc). Odo's all right, but DS9 is especially bad for displaying any non-"human" culture as clownish or evil. Nog and Worf's little b***h son only get respect for adopting human culture, everyone else is a gay little joke.
7 and the doc are especially standout, but that moron engineer doesn't get treated by the script like she's born wrong, nobody even bothers to treat Tuvok like he's weird when there's two other robot-persons on board.
- When Janeway isn't required to make a preposterous decision so the series can continue, she's pretty shrewd and cool.
- The ship is comfy
- The journey home motif is a very compelling yet flexible vessel for crisis-of-the-week storytelling
- The campiness keeps it getting too far up its own ass.
- Most nuanced, I will not elaborate.
>

It parallels the reality where everyone who isn't White is clownish, evil, or a little gay joke, who only deserve respect for adopting human (White) culture.
You're telling me you believe this AND concur with the ethical outlook of TNG/DS9 ?
I mean if that's the overt perspective of the show, that's one thing (TOS), but the frustration is how profoundly unselfaware and hypocritical its politics are when it insists it's enlightened and tolerant, but like well not of anything SIGNIFICANTLY different from my perspective, no!
Even for TOS though, clowning on Spock is out of line. He's literally superior to everyone else, Kirk and Bones getting better results all the time is literal cope so the smallbrains in the audience don't have to feel bad.
>You're telling me you believe this AND concur with the ethical outlook of TNG/DS9 ?
No. >enlightened and tolerant, but like well not of anything SIGNIFICANTLY different from my perspective, no!
This is all communism. That's an accurate portrayal of the real-life advocates of the present-day version of the same philosophy espoused by the Federation.

Babylon 5 is better. DS9 is a close second.

B5's better but DS9's still good, especially if you're already invested in Trek

Superior space kino

Ok great, then we're at least kind of on the same page.
Truck Stop Nine. Be better.
Best truck stop in all of Cardassylvania!
>Janeway breaks PD several times
>nobody questions her on it
>Paris attempts to break it once
>stripped of rank and thrown in the brig
Captains have final say.
DS9 is fricking kino just for the fact that it inadvertently reveals how utterly shit Gene Roddenberrys idea for a utopian future would be
