found him through Norah Jones covering one of his songs, be here to love me, I think. then worked my way back to Guy Clark, Blaze Foley and Steve Earle...which of course led me forward to Justin Townes who's Kids in The Street album is one of my favorites. basically the same way I found out about Elliott Smith, working backwards from Jimmy Eat World's EP where they covered Heat miser than forward to Elliott's career. I'll always be grateful for those two artists to leading me down those roads

I'd say Let Me Ride in Your Big Cadillac and Home with An Armadillo are definitely Townes tier, along with Blazes well known songs like If I Could Only Fly and Clay Pigeon...Blaze had some real bad songs too but unlike Townes, Blaze always committed his best work to his albums. It seem like Townes always had these shitty arrangements for his studio records and it's probably why everyone loves Live At The Old Quarter so much.

He made some good music but I imagine he and his friends were insufferable to be around in person and am glad he caused his own slow painful demise. Particularly if it added the secret sauce to the music.
