      It's a unique kind.
I wanna say this started in 2012 when execs realized fandom were marketable. Before then, you usually had geekier members of the crew and writing staff slipping onto niche forums and doing little Q&As. Usually back then it was "haha yeah we saw that", this only started in 2012ish with the first wave being Adventure Time and Horse Show. When the convention circuit skyrocketed in growth and fandom culture moved to Twitter, reddit, et cetera and the whole crew was interacting on a larger scale.
It's also that fandom in-jokes became fandom memes around this time, so jokes that would typically be reserved for a smaller niche were now stuff you could put on a t-shirt.

NTA, but does Derpy Hooves count? Her fricked up eyes were a mistake which became canon and her defining trait entirely due to fan response.

But before this she was a nameless background character with no personality; there was no original thing that was cast aside in favor of something else.

Also, for a more direct analog to OP's pic, she said "muffins" in excitement amongst a crowd of people also excited for muffins. This led to that being her whole thing in the fandom's eyes until her official name in the credits of episode 100 was "muffins". She even got merch without any actual name, just a picture of a muffin.

from a video I watched some time ago, one guy became a sherlock holmes parody and another became a dj because of the fandom

        It was all horse shoe
It was the writers and VAS of horse shoe
Adventure time had a slower and more painful burn were the red noses laid claim to the land
There were others like Korra were season one was a completely different show, the Disney trinity minus twincest because that was too much, amphibia added two characters only to avoid having to make the main cadt gay
And of course Steven universe were a writer quit because she couldn't make peridot frick lapis but that was already a gigant mess so who cares

Wasn't she basically eaten alive by the fandom because she personally shipped it but because it wasn't canon they called it queerbaiting.
I get the distinct feeling her quitting had much more to do with getting the hell away from it all

Zuke got eaten alive by the fandom because she was already a decently popular fan artist so everyone knew exactly who to blame when she churned out a bunch of abysmal episodes that weirded everyone out because they came off as a look into an abusive relationship. Further compounded when it came out that it was a bunch of self-insertion and Zuke was the abusive, shitbag girlfriend in her relationship.

          >Amphibia
I definitely wonder if something were up when it came to season 3. The first two seasons bordered on "traditional family values" stuff, then season 3 threw in RuPaul, wypipo appropriating our food n shit, lesbian newts, gay gurlz do tech, and Sasha's bisexual heart sticker (and then I guess Marcy's Journal retroactively made that assistant girl nonbinary). It wasn't completely over the top, but it did come across as a marked shift, and I wonder if it could've had to do with them seeing the type of online fandom which had sprung up around the show.

It's commonplace for the last season to start acting way riskier with everything from jokes to political statements. I think a lot of these Disney guys also don't really care if they burn the bridge on the way out since they all end up with other companies

I wondered if after the show's adventure plot getting put on a leash because they went too far in the second season finale the tumblr types got to play around because they weren't doing the original plans anymore.

Nope flanderization happens without audience input or like the writers realizing that some things are more popular
This is the writer going online were he is a celebrity and offering the toxic fans the mercy of making the horrible headcanon reality like some sort of god figure

This one was a bit weirder than even the other horse show cases. Long story short, that one was a joke among the animators, a lot of shows sorta pick that one character who will always be doing something weird or stupid in the background who is often nicknamed the "incidental character" and her sitting like a human was just part of that. So the moment itself was very intentional but people failed to notice the other dumb stuff they were having her do

This seems like the type of thing that fans gobble up while it's happening, in a "dude haha they SEE us! THEY GET IT TOO!! WE DID IT REDDIT" kind of way, but then once the show/comic/whatever ends and the fandom circlejerk dies down, people reflect and ask "wow, looking back on it now... did they really just botch that entire character for the sake of a dumb fandom joke? And we liked it? What were they, and we, thinking? Imagine what they could've done with that character if they hadn't just made him le funny breadman!" Like a shameful postnut clarity.

It was OK in Amphibia because Maggie probably wouldn't have shown up again anyway, and it was a little thing that makes enough sense on its own without knowledge of the meme.

That, exactly contrary to her behavior in the one scene she was in, she likes Anne a lot.

Well, that was part of it; otherwise people just liked her character design.

When I was a boy, pizza was inexorably tied to Ninja Turtles and chili dogs were linked to Sonic the Hedgehog but they were obsessed with those foods in the cartoons. I've seen the fanon food obsession memes more than I've seen it happen.

Not a "fanon" thing but this is exactly just the Mayor from the Powerpuff Girls. By the end of the show he is absolutely fricking obsessed with pickles and nothing else.

      Definitely Deadpool

I'll actually interject in saying no to an extent. People in the early 2010s were already complaining that Deadpool had been slowly flanderized throughout the mid 2000s and it only took off from there as more writers got him. I guess the chimichangas thing could apply but his flanderized personality was there with or without the fandom and is often attributed to Daniel Way
