>Forcing animators at your studio to compete against each other
>The winners got their idea picked up and become mainstream iconic, especially with a whole generation, millions of dollars, and the potential for even further of your shows to be produced
>The losers basically forced out of the industry entirely, work forgotten entirely, and currently has to work as Amazon truckers
They kicked Jhonny Bravo's creator out of his own show after season 1 since they told him he was too inexperienced to run the show, the original show's run ended in 2001 but the creator went back to CN trying to pitch another show in 2004 and they told him that they had no interest in hsi pitch but wanted him to make more Jhonny Bravo episodes, the show was revived in 2004 as a result but they cancelled it again shortly after
>Only non white creator from the 90s What A Cartoon winners
>*Fire him*
>*Pretend his show never existed and exclude it from stuff like Checkered Past and posters*
It's literally their best show from that era, beloved by all people in the late 90s like ska music and female Bond villains in charge of countries. My parents know it and they were residents at the time, so if it stuck it had to be good.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Seth McFarlene have a hand in Johnny Bravo?
He was a writer on season 1 of the show
That explains everything.
Yeah, both him and Hartman, who made forward thinking works for the 2000s (which happened to be very retro). You will note, however, that they're not associated with Warner anymore.
What's Hartman legitimately up to these days? Last I've heard, he tried pitching a streaming service that never really took off.
Yeah, and then he went back to Nick. It was always a bad idea to full send an evangelical streaming service (or any streaming service) when it's not 2004 anymore.
Is that why Nu-FOP exists? Now that makes a lot more sense.
which Nu-FOP specifically? Either way, Butch was involved in the live action one AND the netflix reboot both as executive producers.
The good one. (animated)
I had both the Jhonny and Courage toys from that 2006 Latam Happy Meal thing, I lost Jhonny, now I only have the top half of the Courage one and looks moronic
>The losers basically forced out of the industry entirely, work forgotten entirely, and currently has to work as Amazon truckers
Butch and Seth did shorts on these, they didn’t win but they got to work on one of the greenlit shorts and would go onto doing their own shoes.
andy merrill had a short?
Literally saved the network.
it was worse than that
>announce a global contest, send it to animators far and wide
>make a short for our new cable network! if you win, we'll pick you up for a whole series
>every single winner either already worked for hanna-barbera, or already had a close relationship with that company
>every single winner either already worked for hanna-barbera, or already had a close relationship with that company
Ouch, sounds like nepotism.
Hollywood has always been bad about it. It's been saved from death too many times to be good. Let's let it die, for vtlvntv shall rise in its place.
It's why I find it so admirable that Nickelodeon really went far and wide for It's original animated line up. For frick sake Jim Jenkins wasn't even an animator.
OOOOOOOOOO I CANNOT SAY I LIKE YOU, MISTAH WOIM.
Sounds based as hell, in an ideal world people would be "cancelled" for their lack of talent rather than some moral reason.
The problem, however, is all the "winners" already knew the higher-ups to begin with.
Oh, nevermind then.
On the other hand, I do remember Courage winning and that legitimately better than most of the other cartoons they presented.
Stretch had some credibility doing the animated segments for that one R&S christmas music video comp, so it's worth starting somewhere.
Plus, it was nominated for an Oscar, making it the most prestigious short of them all.
Courage's original shirt got an Oscar Nomination. CN desperately wanted to oick up the series because of that.
Genndy, Craig, Paul Rudish, and Rob Renzetti worked on 2 Stupid Dogs.
Though Rob didn’t win but he ended up still working with Genndy and Craig on their shows
>Genndy, Craig, Paul Rudish, and Rob Renzetti
Already a great lineup of artists. I'd love to learn from either one of them.
right, because Seth MacFarlane's career never went anywhere.
works for anime/manga
