Close Enough felt too generic overall to ever grow as iconic as Regular Show, but I do still think it didn't deserve to be canned so early.

It is a spiritual successor in many ways.

Childhood was thinking Mordecai was the better character.
Adulthood was realizing Benson & Rigby were the best characters.
Nah, Mordecai was genuinely the better person in the early seasons. Rigby was wildly irresponsible, dickish and dumb. Benson was so uptight he became irresponsible with his anger and aggression. Mordecai was remarkably level headed, had a decent balance between work and play, and could actually work through his problems with people by communicating and clearly demarcating boundaries.
He just gets brutally character assassinated by only ever focusing on how much of a simp he is, getting stuck in stasis while Rigby and Benson go through character development and drastically unwind by the end, becoming far superior people.
I think what makes it work is Mordecai ultimately moves on and has a good life on the end. Like the main characters all grew to respect and support each other.
I don't recall many scenarios in which Benson getting mad wasn't a pretty reasonable response his situation.
Imagine getting free housing and a constant government-secure income with no degree needed and you still almost get fired every day because you can't just walk in a line with a mower for a couple hours
The park is so large that mowing it would definitely take all day.

I actually liked the Mordecai love drama. It was an intriguing arc to follow across the series. It only really got bad in Season 6, and things really picked back up by Season 7.
