RIP half of the story.

So he was brought back from death by his notdead partner and then gets drowned by planet DEI.

and we get a whopping 3 minutes of Empire in episode 6.

They really want this show to be cancelled.

the show is shit but he's a robot now, not a human. the woman in the giant statue (his wife) was also a robot. Just like Demerzel. Obviously this season is going to finally give some info on Demerzel being a robot and how long she's been around and what plans she has concocted. She is behind most of the events in the show, a long term plan.

      Anonymous

Wait he's a robot? I never read the books and honestly with the way bookgays complain about it, I figured it wouldn't help anyway.

so he's not dead then? and how wouldn't he know he's a robot, he literally stabbed himself in the hand to make sure he was human..so is his body more advanced than demerzel?

        Anonymous

I mean it's pretty clear he's a robot of some kind just like Demerzel. They get to the planet and he's some kind of hologram, then he goes through the door into that facility and comes out "alive" again. It's clear he was given a physical body for some purpose of the plan.

Even his "wife" in the flashback was probably a robot too, part of the plan to finish the prime radiant and start the foundation to preserve humanity.

Later this season there's going to be an entire episode focused on Demerzel so I assume we will have a lot of revelations about her past and what is happening.

          Anonymous

Well that is the thing I've been waiting on because I assume things are going out of order and out of her control? because if she wanted to start a war to eliminate humanity, it doesn't seem to be too hard to do so i'm guessing her plan is something other than control or annihilation.

            Anonymous

They're going to box themselves in here:
            >so you mean Demerzel was behind the genetic dynasty and the collapse of the Empire in the the first place?
            >uhhhhhhhhhhhhh
            >it had to be this way two more weeks trust the plan

              Anonymous

I mean the more I think about it, even if she naturally does this "Every empire wanes, so she resets the galactic control device that controls humanity" type of thing..I don't know, seems like we're about to run into bad writing, like you said.

This show is seriously lacking in empire right now

I agree but honestly I feel like this is the last of Lee Pace's run unless someone knows something I don't

Her plan is to preserve humanity. The foundation is something she put into plan in order to help humanity survive the decline and chaos of Empire falling.

              Anonymous

Well they made it obviously seem like his entire plan was based out of personal repression, so it seems fairly strange to frame it that way.

      >Seldon is a robot
This genuinely disgusts me. I gather he's a robot because they did a time skip or something and wanted to use Harris still?

        Anonymous

They literally killed him off again in episode 6 and what the anon suggesting the twist will be is his new miracle body is some form of advanced robo-body to show how far behind the Empire is technology wise and how Foundation keeps leap frogging technology wise. so a near human body that bleeds will survive him drowning, etc.

I mean the real body is either spaced or turned to ash on that ship remember, his consciousness got downloaded twice and one was in the device and the other is on terminus so I don't see how it could be a real body but a lot of foundation of science in this show might as well be magic. The show is oddly limited in some ways and broken in others. The ringworld rings they used on the planet shouldn't be possible, at least not at those size and there would be no point to building them that way. If they had energy shields capable of holding that much mass, even with their own self generated gravity..why not just build a literal shield for the planet..

or better yet a massive space station that just shoots whatever comes into the system. They went to this weird uptech'd direction but it strangely puts their civilization way beyond their own capacity that they shouldn't have the problems that they have.

They can build dyson rings which is clearly a type 1-2 tech yet they're struggling with dirt world mongrels?

They were using an advanced version of a skyhook to shuttle people and mass from atmo to the surface and then decided to build over a hundred years, 100 times that mass..in space..with no skyhook.

Well its possibly being setup by a ASI instead of humans because humans can't save themselves, apparently.

Season 2 so far is a little bit better than season 1. Still a very flawed show.
The biggest weak points are the characters of Gaal and Salvor. Salvor's actress CANNOT ACT. She is fricking awful, and Gaal is a bit better but not by much and it's probably just her british accent doing the "acting." Either way having two "le strong black women" as the lead characters drags down the show so much, and they only made Salvor black for diversity points just like every other show these days casting a black womyn or making white characters black for diversity quotas.

If you eliminate those 2 characters or recast them the quality of the show dips up a bit.

I agree on Salvor but Gaal has been growing on me this season at least compared to season 1. Not to mention the haircuts they keep giving Salvor are ridiculous.

God, the last episode was already bad, but this one was even worse.

Is it really so hard to make good sci-fi for TV?

I really enjoyed the first season, but so far, I haven't liked any episodes of season 2.

I was going to agree with you but every promo, behind the scenes or remotely related to this thing, he seems to either be standing near the blonde or touching her. I don't know what is going on there.

Pace and Harris seem to be the only ones who know how to act, and they're the main reason I continue watching the show. Harris isn't dead; it's just a typical death cliffhanger to keep viewers hooked.

I watched all of Expanse while overseas for work. It stopped being any good after S2 but the books were bad too
          Expanse doesn't have Lee Pace

I watched the entire series of 'The Expanse' and it was really in season 4 when things took a turn. I continued with the series and then picked up the book that follows season 6. The writing is shit, especially the chapters focused on Bobby. I'm baffled as to how these books gained popularity. It seems people will consume just about anything these days.

We're only 6 episodes in and I can't even figure out the main theme or conflict. Seems like it's about the Second Foundation, but it's mostly just pointless character drama so far. Why even get into it if it doesn't matter? Frick those homosexuals. Can't wait for AI to replace those Hollywood writers.

Actually, I am just going to start writing my own sci-fi with some AI help. Worst case? I write something just as bad.

they're trying to differentiate different 'eras' of days with each having a distinctive flaw, so instead of a strong and domineering/intelligent guy, we've been all over the place but even the strongest day still allowed a genetically tampered Dawn to continue to exist and my guess is that maybe that caused problems down the line?

              [...]
they're the assistants of GRRM, i'm not even joking, their series got a huge push when original GoT was still popular.

the expanse writers? Well, that explains it then...

Essentially. White men are not allowed to be competent in anything other than fricking up and dying.

For all their post-modernism, deconstructivism, and flipping the script, they've become super predictable. Wouldn't shock me if that's the path they're on.

Turns out that if all you're pushing is "white guys bad, diverse people good", you run out of fresh ideas quickly. Do it enough times, everyone else jumps on the bandwagon, and boom—no more surprises. people come to expect it, so no more subversion of expectations. Which was the entire point of it no?

well best I can tell, even though the writing does a terrible job of explaining it. The secret manipulator behind the scenes is crushing all obstacles to continued control by Empire and foundation is a reaction to Seldon's ideas and personal loss, literally. His street shitter waifu dies and he comes up with a plan of sedition, where as originally she (street shitter) was giving Seldon shit for essentially coming up with an idea that could upend the social order but he won't go all the way. Her death galvanizes him? Where his two foundation plan springs from only to find out that someone is going to exist in the future that is trying to wipe out said foundation..after foundation wipes out empire and apparently this is somehow robo-mommy's plan behind the plan where she created the environment for the variable(seldon) to come to fruition? I am guessing on the last few bits but based on other anon observations, all of that seems to fit back neatly into the bad writing of episode 6.

The science doesn't matter, might as well be magic..and he apparently couldn't do basic science and needed his waifu to tell him how to do it even though he has a PH.D in being oblivious and non-functioning.

Why does a PHD need help with anything related in his own field despite maybe data analysis or some other type of thing where two people work together at a high level.

PhDs give each other advice all the time so there's nothing wrong with the concept in itself. But Seldon never having done forecast evaluation (something every 21st century data science undergrad can do) before his gf told him is silly.

All they needed was write it differently
                >I can't solve this problem
                >What if you used the [made up name] theorem to [math mumbo jumbo]?
                >Wow, I never thought of my problem that way. Of course, [math mumbo jumbo]. It all makes sense now!

Why even bother making a show called Foundation when it has frick all to do with the series. They didn't even do Seldon's prequel stuff the same.

      >They didn't even do Seldon's prequel stuff the same
Anon, they didn't do anything from the books the same. I honestly think the writers/producers thought the brand name would be enough to rope in viewers, who would then enthusiastically lap up the generic globohomosexual slop on screen. I haven't seen season 2 yet, but season 1 was just shit.

I think they took an idea concept and just attached a name to it honestly.

I like some of the space visuals and if the casting had been better, this show could be an easy 8/10

It's funny, I would probably keep on with this show if it was called anything but foundation and names were changed, but as it is, I find it abhorrent

            Expanse doesn't have Lee Pace

I mean Expanse had Thomas Jane who is also a strong character actor, not unlike Pace. I feel like behind the scenes or in front of the reason why the show was so strong early on was his inclusion.

The expanse had a lot of things but it definitely needed some better editors.

I thought the whole point is that foundation fights the empire and then they weaken eachother until the second foundation takes over which gets btfo by the mule and something something Gaia Hivemind humanity can't evolve by itself anymore?

though I will be honest what you wrote is better than what we're going to get, fighting actual aliens would be a lot better than bad political machination 'writing'

why the frick are they making day into the dumbest homosexual in the galaxy?
are they course correcting for the last season where he was the most based man alive?
    did the writers get scared?

they're trying to differentiate different 'eras' of days with each having a distinctive flaw, so instead of a strong and domineering/intelligent guy, we've been all over the place but even the strongest day still allowed a genetically tampered Dawn to continue to exist and my guess is that maybe that caused problems down the line?

God, the last episode was already bad, but this one was even worse.

Is it really so hard to make good sci-fi for TV?

I really enjoyed the first season, but so far, I haven't liked any episodes of season 2.

      [...]

Pace and Harris seem to be the only ones who know how to act, and they're the main reason I continue watching the show. Harris isn't dead; it's just a typical death cliffhanger to keep viewers hooked.

      [...]

I watched the entire series of 'The Expanse' and it was really in season 4 when things took a turn. I continued with the series and then picked up the book that follows season 6. The writing is shit, especially the chapters focused on Bobby. I'm baffled as to how these books gained popularity. It seems people will consume just about anything these days.

they're the assistants of GRRM, i'm not even joking, their series got a huge push when original GoT was still popular.

The second thing from the right is the person playing Salvor, who has a huge chunk of time in the first season and walks around with a haircut that is straight out of the late 80s and they stick 'her' with someone as a romantic partner that is literally impossible. The numbers don't match in any conceiveable way and that is how they start season 1.

So..its going but I think the anons starved for SCIFI are putting up with anything because yeah..

        like this anon said[...]

        Anon don't be that guy.

Salvor's casting was and is atrocious, they're trying to make her not look like a walking meme but they're up against it, at least the actress for gaal can emote some..and wants to look female.

The rest of the cast being Harris and Pace, Birn and rest of Empire side of things are fantastic.

Enjoy and respect Empirekino, hatewatch the rest i like it despite being totally not foundation i am scifi starved

Empirekino is season 1. Now they cucked it into a boring-ass marriage court drama plot and reduced the watchtime that I unironically prefer any of the other plotlines simply because I already know they won't do shit with the empire one.

because white men are stupid and the future is female. It's not driven by the internal logic of the plot but by the social propaganda, they want to push on you.

Why is every Asimov adaptation like this? I, robot was about debugging dumb robots walking in circles but it got turned into a will smith action flick.
