I still don't understand why it was never renewed. Was it not popular or something?
CN wanted a tax writeoff.
This whole "tax write-off" thing is a massive cope. Tax write-offs don't work like that. Shows aren't created just to be tax write-offs, because you're only writing-off the taxes. The government isn't paying them for the entire cost of the show, they still lose money.
If they aren't making any more, that's just because it didn't preform how they wanted. Sucks for the fans of the show, but it's not some money making scheme.
It was renewed, and Cartoon Network even promoted the second season by releasing a teaser clip on their YouTube channel...and then it just disappeared.
meanwhile on the 25th it will be 10 years since parker first created Mao Mao. The teaser video already turned 9 in February
Makes me sad to see how passionate Parker was about the characters. He shared SO many drawings and was clearly invested in every part of the show's production.
I dunno. Wasn't it kinda gay?
even the rule 34 of this show has slowed to a crawl. it's so ogre
Yeah right. It still surprises me how consistenly I still see smut of the show. The pairing of Badgerclops and Mao Mao seems to come alive stronger every time there's a new Simmons controversy of him being "homophobic".
Someone post the "Wouldn't wanna gay up your aerocycle" comic
Holy shit
I love you!
I love you, Mao Mao!
Finally your dreams are coming true?
Hardly...
cute feet
Mao Mao was really good, at it could have been genuinely incredible if it got that second season. I'm so mad at CN, this is definitely the thing im most buttmad about to this day in regards to cartoons.
One of the biggest fricking crimes in animation history, easily.
Yeah it's up there with pirates of dark water and symbionic titan.
>Mao mao is a prepandemic show
Frick CN.
>four years
>still almost no Mao Mao/Marion art
I weep for what could have been.
>marion
FRICKING MARION? See this is what's wrong with secondary characters... beyond Adorabat there really aren't any likable secondaries. They're cannon fodder, nothing more, nothing else.
Parker himself didn't disapprove of it.

I'm surprised nobody's made an animatic of that yet.
The ship doesn't even have any proper fanart, let alone anyone willing to make an animatic.
It plays plays out with Mao Mao being chivalrous yet awkward with Marion being very forward and romantic so Marion is taking things quickly but Mao Mao isn't protesting either because he's enjoying it or he's to busy spilling his spaghetti and trying to save face.
I get that showrunners often self insert, but to the point of it being the creator and his best friend working through their daddy and mommy issues gave it a nice slice of genuine realness. So much so that Parker gets defensive about Shin Mao since he's based on his deceased father.
One of the things he said he'd do if he had too much money is pay someone to he the ghost of his dad and tell him he's proud.
Better for the show to have many moments about fixing their parental issues rather than moments just demonizing the parents.
But their parents were demonized too, the arcs just got wrapped up faster than in most shows and it would still fit into the episodic format because the "breakthrough" isn't too significant and life changing.
Also Badgerclops' parents being demanding and controlling to the point of stifling his growth as a creative until he decides to disappoint them to the point that winning any popularity contest has him saying things like "if my mom could see this, she would not say some of the things she says" sounds like a typical story among creatives.
Mao Mao, OK K.O. and Mighty Magiswords all feel like they came out at the wrong times and would have done absolute gangbusters in different eras/time periods.
Why don't they just rerelease it like CN did with Scooby Doo, Flinstones, Tom & Jerry? imagine if you could only watch those shows during the 40s and 60s. and people born in the 65s didn't even know wtf that was beyond a faint memory as a toddler.
>Cliquey bullshit from executives that basically want to flip the table and reinvent the wheel, destroying anything good the previous exec did
>Merchandising is a factor even though they overblow the importance of it, or in Mighty Magiswords' case they basically lie and don't make any merch in spite of that being the crux of the show
>Spongebob effect where you want the least cost and the most profit so you just spam one or two shows constantly.
>Why keep old shows to rerun when you can just write them off for taxes and get immediate money, this is what's fricking over streaming into an absolute mess.
>Mao Mao, OK K.O. and Mighty Magiswords
How would you save these shows or if you want how would you rewrite them to be more appealing to modern day audiences?
make mao mao a female
and turn it into her lezzing out with her sister and adorabat 24/7
These corporations will kill off original series with vocal followings and the potential to grow into their own popular franchises, only to then pretend all anyone wants is more SpongeBob, more Powerpuff Girls, more Futurama, etc.
I'M SICK OF IT
all that matters nowaday to people is short term profits
no one cares for potential long term profits
Aww 🙁
>page 9 now
Why does Cinemaphile never talk about Mao Mao? Does nobody here care about it? It has some of the best animated action scenes in a modern kids show ever.
I do remember the Mao Mao /trash/ general being pretty active, at least during 2020-2021. I stopped seeing them in 2022.
with the death of the show all but confirmed
most of them moved to a discord
Post-pandemic Cinemaphile rarely talks about cartoons anymore unless it's to shit on them. Any good cartoon is lucky to stay afloat in the catalog.
So what did the pandemic do to Cinemaphile exactly? I don't know myself, I got here in 2022.
The Loud House happened
The pandemic's kinda fricked up a lot of the internet to be fair. It attracted bored normie tourists and drove the already terminally online insane.
I seem to recall Cinemaphile being fixated on Homestuck.
>Homestuck
>pandemic
I thought that comic has been basically banned since 2014
>all characters are acab, covid spreaders or both
This show aged like fine milk.
Absolutely nothing. It's just as shit as in 2018.
Wrong 2018 was awesome for Cinemaphile
How so?
I don't really know either, but the board feels a lot deader than it used to
It was used by the corporate new world order globalist israeli zogs as a way to import brown third worlders en masse into white first world countries, furthering the great replacement of the white race
Can't keep talking about something getting zero new content forever.
Gosh, Mao Mao is so cool. I feel bad for all the artists who probably made some of their best work yet in Season 2 only to get told it'd be left to rot in a vault.
>Why does Cinemaphile never talk about Mao Mao?
Maybe because it's a 4 year old cartoon that doesn't have any reruns, doesn't have any news, you can't watch it anywhere online, the second season doesn't exist, and all references to it have been scrubbed from CN's website and twitter?
>you can't watch it anywhere online
Impossible
He means LEGALLY. Without legal streaming, there’s no one to advertise the show.
This was the only new cartoon to come out other than Infinity Train that interested me at all, and it immediately died because of course.
One day the remaining episodes will be leaked
Keep dreaming boyo
So is season 2 actually completed and they still refuse to release it, or only partially done?
from my understanding it was completely storyboarded + had some model sheets done so it was likely about to enter animation phase before it got cancelled
>>four years
Wow do I feel old.
Almost nobody cares for this blowhard chad show. It's why Finn had to be feminine to make up for the chud action.
>i still remember the threads like they were yesterday
Indeed. They were generals of both Homosexual Furry Vore fetishists and Homosexual Furry Content. FRICK YOU. Glad this shitty show is dead. Mao is shit. And you are shit. You shit heads have an obsession with worshiping the shittiest shows ever and then spamming it. And don't say "We are discussing it" shut the frick up we know that's a lie.
CN robbed Mao Mao of having its own 'Dominator Effect' in Season 2. Mao Mao's sisters would've really elevated the show's popularity.
it could've became the furry version of Loud House
Mao Mao was a near perfect cartoon for me. It's awful what happened to it. I'll love you forever Mao Mao
The warner-discovery merge wasn't kind to maomao, infact, its the reason why he will never return.
>shows like Close Enough and Inside Job were still able to have their cancellations publicly announced and confirmed by the creators
>Mao Mao gets cancelled behind our backs and we'll never know exactly why because CN forced everyone into silence, making people wait for years for a season 2 that will never come
Do you think Parker's played filename?
