Show script didn't suck until season 7 or so. At that point he was committed to it and the other cast members, they had an especially tight bond.
20 years later everyone has moved on or died. Even the former cast members who are doing it are only in it for cameos, they know a stinker when they see one. Good for pierce, may his curtain calls go on for hours and may his husband's cavernous blown out ass forever take loads
