Yep. I feel like his later movies didn't do as well because Hisaishi no longer did the music.

none of what you say matters, what matters is to successfully convey emotions through the film

Ironically though, Kids Return is my favourite Kitano film and he's not even in it as an actor.

It didn't even feel like this scene was real the first time, and I mean that as a compliment. It was just like "is this happening? This is fricking great, I'm so glad it went this way"

The lack of facial movement is because his face was partially paralyzed in a motorcycle accident.

Love his 90s and early 2000s kinos, but his more recent work is just awful.

I've seen everything up to Zatoichi and like all of it except Brother. I did watch Outrage but didn't get the hype around it at all. Felt like it was made by a Kitano fanboy who dumbed down all the emotion and spirituality of his 90s films

        Anonymous

Pretty much. The Outrage trilogy just gets worse with each installment, but his worst movie by far is Ryuzo and the Seven Henchmen. Hard to believe Kitano actually made that crap.
