I think the movie would have worked better without the voiceover, it's a similar issue as the walking with dinosaurs movie but not AS bad as that.
Sometimes it feels like it was supposed to be a nature documentary, but then suddenly half-way through they decided to turn it into a kids dino adventure movie that was constrained by the more realistic vibe of what they had already finished animating.
The Lion King is somewhat understandable in how it treats the dynamic between predator and prey, but in this, it's like it's trying to say "When we do it, it's fine, but when the villains/antagonists do it, it's evil and you should see them as bad." like when the T-rex killed the Ankylosaur or the Theri.
Honestly I think the sequel works better because at least it's clear from the beginning that it's not supposed to be taken too seriously and that it's more of a kids dino adventure movie than "a weird documentary that we put a voiceover on"

Just watched this, it's kinda weird how they set up Kex as the protagonist at the start of the film but then partway through it switches to 26 being the main character who has the final confrontation with the villain instead. Not that I am complaining, as she was the best character in the movie. But still, it's odd. Kex basically became a side character whose job it is to argue with the chick.

The ones that benefit the most are the ones done on cels(movies 2-6) but even the later ones look a bit better. There are some quirks like with movie 7(the first one where digital ink and paint) there's at least one shot I can remember where they forgot to upscale an asset or something because Ducky goes from holding a blurry low-res stalactite to an actually detailed one

In this link the films have subtitles in which languages? Sometimes I feel like watching the movies again, but I never find translated subtitles downloads on the internet, only dubbed. I have a hearing problem and I prefer to watch series with dubbing and subtitles at the same time, but I almost never find animated cartoons with translated subtitles in my language for download, only dubbed. Anime and tokusatsus are much easier to find translated subtitles downloads.
I don't think dinotopia is ever getting a new release. Too obscure of a title + the rights situation looks complicated. Who even owns it now?

Idea sounded cute so this was my attempt at a hybrid child for Littlefoot and Cera. Not quite a Threeneck or a Longhorn, but it's something.

Potentially, I haven't actually watched any of the Dinotopia stuff so I am not as familiar with 26's character. If you have a very specific request that'd be easy to do for someone not as familiar with her I could see what I can do, provided as usual the thread stays alive. I'll probably try to watch some clips from the show as well to get a better grasp of the character while I am at it. But yeah, the more specific you can get with the request the better as it's less guesswork with the character for me.
26 is friendly, slightly mischievous and snarky. She can sometimes prioritize having fun over her responsibilities, which in the movie comes back to bite her since a ton of eggs she was supposed to be looking after end up getting stolen.
As for her snark, when she first meets Kex she doesn’t reveal herself immediately, talking to him from behind a bush. She teases him with his backpack and skateboard, only to pull him through to meet him face to face when he tries to get them back. In this scene, her line is “Kex, hello? This is the jungle. Close your mouth before something crawls in there and has babies.” I’m sure other anons can provide more info on her.
26 had better chemistry with Kex than his human love interest did.

Littlefoot is a kind and determined leader who does what needs to be done.
Cera is short tempered and prefers staying out of danger if she can but will stick by her friends if they need her.
As you can imagine, they fight a lot, but are close.
Another thing I find interesting is that a era hates getting dirty and is afraid of heights.

Professor Screweyes did nothing wrong

Confused mess as a result of a messy development. It's a shame, too, because they scrapped a scene for Professor Screweyes that explained what his deal was, gave him more depth, and gave context to how he leaves the movie. Granted, it still doesn't explain HOW exactly he goes out the way he does, but that could've been something they deleted, too.
Definitely prefer the voice actor they went with in the end, but the one they had and replaced wasn't bad at all.

I really wish someone would make an animated short film about the Stoned Ape Theory. Like, they could do it in the same style as "Prehistoric Planet" and try to take a peak of a theory that might've happened with time passing showing the progression of it using realistic visuals.
I always thought it was a very interesting and convincing theory and I like to think it bridges the gap for all theories of creation-- including scientific and religious. At the root of it all, a form of vegetation is the reason for our intelligence, and that covers a lot of creation myth stories, not just Christianity.

It seems to be the default color scheme for threehorns.
I'm more weirded out by the lineart in that picture. It looks as if there's a very long, straight eraser stroke across the center of the image. But I can't figure out why/how an error like that would've happened. Especially since it apparently occurs in multiple frames in that shot.
Kinda sad the sequels just kinda killed off Cera's family for seemingly no reason.
Funny you say that, because she’s the only one with family members who get any real screentime. In VI, she takes care of her niece and nephew and the later movies give her a half-sister in Tricia.
Also, this thread is getting pretty close to bump limit. It would be two threads in a row that manage it, but I feel like we should hold off for now. If nothing else we should try to have a thread in November for the 35th anniversary.
It's really kind of unclear to be honest. In the first movie, we never see her sisters outside of the very start of the movie. Her mother only appears up to the great earth-shake scene. And at the end we only see Cera reunite with her dad, despite the movie showing a lot of other threehorns that made it to the valley right afterwords.
In The Great Valley Adventure, there's a threehorn shown in the background a few times with her dad that has the same coloring as her mother, and even reacts to Cera yelling at one point(when she and the others get stuck in "the sinking sand") but it's never outright stated to be her mom and she never talks or is involved when any of the other parents are shown. At the end we also see some smaller threehorns with Cera, but they're likely just kids from other threehorns in the valley. Similarly. The Time of the Great Giving briefly shows two Cera-sized threehorns near Cera's Dad at one point but it's unclear who they are(and one is likely Cera herself).
Her head is a lighter shade than her body, it's been that way since the first movie. It's just with the movies from 7-onward which used digital ink and paint, the color difference is far more stark, especially for night shots.
It's probably also because I swear they spent all of $5 on The Wisdom of Friends. When I was scrolling through the movie to find screenshots of the sharpteeth, I could find errors basically every time. Layering, paint errors, stuff that didn't get erased, etc. The backgrounds for the most part are also really low-res in that movie.

Yeah. It's due to the fact that most non-Disney production studios were still trying to grasp digital coloring themselves throughout that period.

I never watched the series but I remember the later films( think beginning with movie 10?) using them for a few shots, but man those look way worse up close. They're noticeable from the further away shots in the movies, but not as bad
Actually scratch that I just remembered movie 11 used them up close in the final scene. They seemingly learned their lesson after this because 12-14 went back to either using them in the background or not at all.

For a long ass time I was brainstorming a TLBT fanfic. I never went through with it because eventually Primal came out and there were a bunch of coincidental similarities that people would think I was ripping that off. I went through a bunch of versions, but the basic gist throughout all of them was:

>due to some sorta space time anomaly shit a human child is randomly transported to the mysterious beyond
>the land before time isn’t earth’s past, it’s a different dimension, explaining the mishmash of time periods and other such differences between our prehistory and their time
>the kid stumbles across and saves Chomper from some sorta predator before bringing him back to his parents
>seeing this child lost and alone, Chomper’s parents take him in
>he essentially becomes chompers brother after a while
>fast forward to decades later
>both are grown up
>they’ve been finding various things from across history that have been transported there by the same sort of anomaly
>OC has since obtained armor that’s a mishmash of various kinds he could scavenge
>same with weapons, weapon of choice is a spear
>also carrys a kind of short sword
>everything else he has is whatever he can find and carry
>OC and Chomper live on the edge of the great valley, acting as security
>main conflict starts when groups of various ancient civilizations start being transported back
>some of the more aggressive groups have been trying to use the valley as their hunting ground
>most commonly I pictured Roman legionaries as the main antagonists
You can see a bunch of things that were pretty similar to Primal so I just scrapped it. I still like the idea though.
This actually sounds like a pretty cool idea, but yeah it does seem similar to Primal particularly when the historic civilisations as enemies come into it. Although that's arguably the coolest part of the idea, where time travel are sending all these different armies from different time periods back in time to fight dinosaurs. The time travel aspect could be enough to distinguish it from Primal.
Thanks! Another idea I was toying with is that the MC is so used to fighting dinosaurs for decades that he doesn’t really know how to effectively fight a human. He learns over the course of many encounters though.
