Take out some of Davey’s more reprehensible behavior and the shit jokes and the movie is easily a 9/10. It’s not a matter of being “too mean spirited”, it’s just hard to root for Davey when he’s such an butthole.

I actually just watched this for the first time last week. "Loathsome" was the word that really came to mind. I have never seen such good looking, Iron Giant-esque animation wasted on such godawful writing and a terrible, near non-existent story.

Back then you just watched whatever you had, and this was one of the animated christmas specials we had, so we watched it.
