I saw it at 9 I think and it fricked me up for a while and ruined marvel for a few years for me aside from the x-men since they didn't show up much in these.

MZ: Return is actually horrible. I don't think anyone has read it past the infamous vore image but it's down there with the shitty man thing sequels to it

        man thing sequel?

          4. It had morbius and stuff too. They were okay. Not many people really talk about it or seem to know it for some reason but the 13 issue Deadpool series where he has to take headpool back home Is really good both as an MZ book and a Deadpool one.

It's genuinely just garbage and only relies on shock value like your pic. Kirkman did a frick you ending with MZ2 but a good writer could just have done some dead days type stories at the beginning rather than whatever loop bullshit we got

Not that anon you replied to, but Return is really mid at best. On top of that you're supposed to believe that a zombie attack happened in "the past" causing the deaths of Spider-Man and other people in NYC and somehow in all that time the heroes of that world didn't prepare for it and let the massacre of the world in WWH happen

I don't think Return was that bad. Certainly not as good as

        >Marvel Zombies vs The Army of Darkness
        >Marvel Zombies: Dead Days
        >Marvel Zombies
        >Marvel Zombies 2

or even that crossover with the short-lived Marvel Apes. But it wasn't bad. I liked it more than the Morbius stuff or anything else they've tried with the Marvel Zombies since

I'm actually a big fan of Sean phillips' art in the first two and dead days tbh, it Has a grimey/dark feel to it that fits well. Apparently the only reason that the outfit eras are all fricked is because he just drew them from memory, so you get Luke Cage straight out of the 70s.

Return made me want to vomit with rage, but you've got the taste to list out the only good parts of the entire series.

The follow-ups in 616 were weird. By virtue of setting they could no longer have stakes, they were genuinely unconnected to anything that came before or after (they just felt like a weak back-door pilot for a new Midnight Suns books without the best cast members); not terrible but fine enough I guess.

MZ5 pissed me off most, though. It was a perfectly serviceable book (not great, but decent enough, and once more disconnected) that didn't have an ending. Issue 5/5 drops all plot points and instead just has an audience stand in (a guy on "our" Earth who's a butthole comic obsessed fan who complains too much about comics online) act like an butthole for 20 pages before the cast poof in, kill him, and leave. There is genuinely no closure of any kind for any character or plot points. I'm assuming the writer was being shat on online for some reason, but why would editorial let him sperg out and crash a fricking title?

MZ5 is shit imo but that still puts it leagues above MZ: Destroy!

always felt bad about marvel just killing off a golden age character like the blazing skull in such a dumb way like zombie goats in that series
like jeez sure the guy was a c tier at best but that just felt petty

The blazing skull is actually one of the more adaptable golden age characters to current year. They should have sacrificed some homosexual like the whizzer or something

Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness was the best volume.

It was a real mixed back of sequels. I liked the ones with Machine Man and Howard the Duck but I don't think of them as high art or anything

How is the "Black White and Blood" volume?

      >How is the "Black White and Blood" volume?
Kind of uneven, there's some cool stories like the one focusing on Reed trying to cure the plague and beta ray bill going around the cosmos fighting zombies, but outside that its kind of eh.

I didn't realize that was a controversial opinion. At least not in regards to the original. The follow ups kind of stretched an already thin premise.

I read this as a teenager and it brought me to tears. Just the idea of all these noble heroes being brutalized and turned into monsters who consumed the people they were sworn to protect got under my skin. Especially when they retained their memories, personalities, and powers. In my headcanon it was a crazy dream and the real heroes would shut it down instantly.

Returns 1 was shit, but I'll admit to enjoying Returns 2 somewhat since it focused less on the gratuitous gore and more on showing how a Tony Stark who never beat his alcoholism reacts to a zombie outbreak.

Honestly I like the spin of it being "eat to be cognizant only to realize what you've done" and 1 is enjoyable, then the rest just jump the shark so hard. Then it just gets to be a mess of spin-off series and different takes that it's hard to keep up, though at least Marvel Zombies vs The Army of Darkness is good.
