Contrarians get mad when the thing they like becomes popular (even though Scarface was already incredibly popular), because it means that in order to maintain their contrarianism, they must now hate the thing they previously liked.

The guy you're responding to is also a zoomer, but one of the "I was born in the wrong generation!" gays. He likes claiming films like Scarface as his favorites because his zoomer peers aren't familiar with them. But when these films show up on zoomer-friendly streaming platforms, more zoomers will watch them and his status as a special snowflake will be lessened.

Literally because he was an incel. He talks to Manny about how the American women will be fawning over him once he made some money yet at the peak of his power Tony can barely keep Elvira interested in him. He killed Manny because despite paying his sister into her dream life, she still "chose" the naturally more handsome Chad who didn't need to flaunt wealth to attract female attention

      Anonymous

Yea or maybe his sister didnt "choose him" because incest is revolting on an instinctual level and the fact that he tries to deny this fact to himself the entire film is indicative of deeper problems. And what do you even think incel means? You go to chicago and see a pack of thugs and you think "ha! incels!" too? Fricking weirdo. If anyone who is sexually frustrated is an incel then the term has been lowered to "geek" and youre not clever for making the connection

He pushed it to the limit, and he was in over his head from the start.
Also I only saw this movie for the first time recently and didnt like how some scenes drag on or have background characters "stop existing" just to highlight Pachino's acting. He gets way too into character and starts acting goofy, and its exemplified how the movie takes place over a long period of time and he doesnt age much so we see essentailly the same guy at the start acting immature (appropriate) and "years" later he is acting all old and wise but looks still like the same guy. Almost ruined the movie for me because takes me out of it. Especially when he does his say goodnight to the bad guys rant, I thought that was embarrassing how the camera lingered on him

      >the movie takes place over a long period of time
What makes you think that? I always thought that the movie took place over two, maybe three years. Tony had a quick rise and a quick fall, that was the point.

He got too greedy too. Kept looking for ways to penny pinch, nickle and dimes. Trusted his moron friend Manny WAY too much with his security. That's why Tony got pinched by the cops and had to go do a deal for Sosa anyway.

  15. 9 months ago
    Anonymous

He's a junkie who loses control, simple as. Early in the movie it's hinted that Tony had a past with coke, he was probably an addict before getting imprisoned in Cuba. When he came to America he resumed his drug use but x10 worse because when he gets rich he has an endless supply to get high on. The longer his coke rampage goes on in the movie, the more erratic and unpredictable he becomes.

      Anonymous

He didn't seem that unpredictable. He was okay with killing men, not women or children. He wanted to protect his sister from people like him. He wanted to regain the respect of his mother. He wanted to be respected by others. He was afraid of his competition making a move on him.

There was never an action which seemed out of character, or couldn't have been predicted given the inputs.

He's still relatively clean during his rise to the top. It's after Push it to the limit that the descent into coke-fueled madness really starts.

        >There was never an action which seemed out of character, or couldn't have been predicted given the inputs.
Sure, from the audience's perspective. From the perspective of his allies in Columbia him killing Ding-Ding from Breaking Bad was completely out of left field and made no sense. He was okay with any sort of violence until then, but him pulling back was him backing out of the contract.

Aggressive strategies got him out of Cuba but he never changed afterwards when it wasn't as practical. He was still the same guy that would stab you for a green card except the coke made his judgment even worse.

Pretty much. He rose to the top because of his insane balls and tenacity, but he was never going to stay there for much given he was just an uneducated cuban peasant. At that level you need politics, diplomacy and fakeness which Tony never had. He was as brash in the end as he was in the beginning.

He should have just listened to Frank

I would have just killed the kids. You think god cares about some kids after you’ve murdered so many people?

This really made no sense. Tony was never shown to have any conscious or morales the entire movie and then all of a sudden I SAID NO KIDS

      Anonymous

Yes, he was, you dork. He said over and over again that he wanted children. He asked Elvira if she wanted kids before they got together. He was pissed and depressed because she couldn't give him children. He wanted to be a father and wasn't going to kill someone else's kids. And it might have calmed him down to less violence and drugs if he had a decent wife who actually birthed some children.
