It's one of those movies whose amazing parts get held back by its moronic parts. Was the art style inspired by Mœbius? I'd always thought it was a sort of stylistic cognate of Nausicaa.
He was going for a Vaughn Bodē vibe if I am not mistaken. However Bakshi did R. Crumb dirty making Fritz so he could not get the Bodē estate on board for Wizards.
I remember watching this at 3 or so in the morning with the volume nearly off so I wouldn't wake Mom up. Cuz you know, it's kinda what I had to do to see breasts before the Internet.
That and parts of Wizards were the only worthwhile things Bakshi ever did with his career.
American Pop and Cool World were good.
Cool World was trash. American Pop was good until the very end, because I just can't buy Night Moves as a ground breaking super hit.
*parts of Fritz the cat and Heavy Traffic were the only worthwhile things Bakshi ever did with his career.

>Skip Hinnant was a regular cast member on the old Electric Company children's show
>MF Doom would sample a particular sketch for his album "Mm..Food" where Skip lampoons naturalist Euell Gibbons
