Cutthroat Island is one of the worst movies of the 90s and if those are the only pirate kinos you can think of you are film illiterate
Refresh my memory what was so bad about it. I haven't seen it since I was a kid but I remember really liking it.
Nothing. It had bad press because of the production costs. It is stunning even today.
>anti hero main character
>practical effects and sets
>beautiful caribbean vistas
>edgy cool villain
>classic treasure hunt plot
>actually funny low key 90s quipping
I can't remember much of it from when I was a kid but I do remember it having these. I just can't remember the story very well. Maybe that was the terrible part?
duality etc. etc.
The writing for one, the dialogue is especially atrocious. Every time either character opens their mouth it's nothing but cringe-inducing "AREN'T I SO COOL" lines that seem like they were written by a 13 year old fanfiction author. Geena Davis is horrible, her character is horrible, there's a reason this film killed her movie career because she is completely embarrassing. It's not even a movie that's "enjoyably bad" it's honestly hard to watch or even listen to without dying from cringe.
Cutthroat Island should be taught in film schools as to how NOT to write a screenplay or make a movie
Did you see the Long Kiss Goodnight? I thought her character was a similar quipy action hero like she was in that movie. If you didn't see the Long Kiss Goodnight or didn't like it then I could see why you wouldn't like her in Cutthroat Island.
I liked The Long Kiss Goodnight, it was a fun action film, her character was far more interesting. She also wasn't that quippy, she starts out as an ingenue and then becomes a mean assassin bawd, but I don't recall her being particularly quippy. Also quips can be good or bad, and the quips in Cutthroat Island are fricking BAD
Youre one special badass, arent you? I bet the entire fricking world should gravitate towards your utterly impeccable tastes. Let me guess, youre the type of mongoloid who turns up his car stereo to 11 so EVRYONE can listen in to your awful taste in music youre blasting across half the city. Am i close? I bet. Youre the fricking moron who lectures his crying kid at the grocery store because it dared to ask for some chocolate. Oh nooo, my 5 year old has the audacity to be AN ACTUAL KID! I'm close, right?
Anyway, frick your pretentiousness, Youre not the MC of our lives. Youre the annoying c**t who always sticks out. The only reason you dont know it yet, is because everyone around you has better manners than you and isnt telling you up front. Maybe we should tell you from now on.
STFU YOU butthole.
>Geena Davis
is five foot eleven. short ass b***hes SEEETEEEEETHETHETHETHTETHTHHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEE
Insufficient amount of Geena Davis nudity
Go ahead, list some. Im already laughing in anticipation of you listing some unwatchable trash from the 50s LOL
>haha I bet you're gonna list some OLD MOVIES my moronic self has never heard of lol
You're not helping your case OP
I accept your concession.
Why would I list movies that you've already declared you will dismiss out of hand because you don't watch movies made before you were born? You're like one of those RLM homosexuals who think cinema started with Star Wars
I would suggest you watch classics like "Captain Blood" or "The Sea Hawk" but lemme guess, you don't watch black and white movies because your attention span can't handle them?
>names a bunch of literally who stop motion trash
opinion discarded, and what a shocking conclusion to this "debate." Thanks for proving me right, and once again, I accept your concession.
I disagree with your opinion on Cutthroat Island. I have seen Captain Blood and enjoyed it. I have never seen The Sea Hawk. Thank you for the recommendation I will check it out.
And there it is, trash from the good ole days of "cinema" including the classics like utterly unfitting cringe music, zero nuance to acting performances and every scene shot on s cheap LA backyard set. I LOVE BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES YOU GUYS IM A FILM AFFICIONADO!!!!!!
holy shit grandpa and here I hoped you'd list something watchable
Cutthroat Island is better and by far than the dated black and white crap you listed. This is an anonymous board, not a forum with nicknames and your cringe photo, or your college class - you're not impressing anyone by acting like the cool guy that has seen the GOOD OL CLASSICS
It's a good adventure movie, critics just said it was bad like water world and normies accepted it
but I liked Waterworld
Waterworld fricking sucks
I liked it
Pretty sure it failed because the production company was in huge financial troubles while the film was in production, and by the time it was time to put the film out, there was like no money to market it with.
I remember having the hots for that actress but I can't remember a single film she starred in I liked
Teh christmas movie with SLJ and her becoming a hot blonde assassin halfway throughout the flick.
Oh yea the assassin one was pretty decent
who the frick is SLJ as if we're supposed to know that
Mega milf in the Stuart Little movies
I always found her hot for some reason
If I was at my PC I'd post the webms I have of her but unfortunately I'm phone posting
>but unfortunately I'm phone posting
I wouldnt have expected any less of you.
I'll be back at home in 10 minutes and will post from pc then
Its been 10 minutes.
She was good in Long Kiss Goodnight
>pre-blonde scenes
Dude....
I'll have to go through my external drive to look as I dont have anything named properly. Its all just a big mess. filesDOTcatbox.moe/4urelp.mp4
And Earth Girls are easy
she looks strong
This and Waterworld are 1000 times better than your average modern schlock
>le perfect organism
>relies on some sort of host population to survive and does nothing than mindlessly breed
>no creativity, no curiosity about the world whatsoever, no nothing and essentially a space wienerroach
What's the hype all about?
Treasure Island has had some good adaptations. The 1934 MGM one and the Charlton Heston version are my favorites.
There will never be a fully realised pirate kino until we get the crew behind Master and Commander to make a pirate flick. blackbeard terror at sea is the only thing that has come close:
Picrel is fun.
frick me forgot trailer link.
