I dont think you could tell what people were wearing in a thousand years based on decomposed clothe scraps
It's different in the past since clothes were higher quality and if we are talking 1000 years ago people wore very gendered clothing which could also tell you their occupation and social standing

It's worse than that; the bones thing is a mockery of trannies claiming they literally are women because they say so, so all that maudlin stuff isn't a counter. Assuming the pissing meme was added later and it wasn't a gag to begin with, at least. Maybe it's supposed to be stupid.

the general opinion was that suffragettes were crazy extremists for the longest time. Even Victoria thought women shouldnt get to vote.
Regardless of how you feel about it in a contemporary context, people back in the day did not care for it.

the suffragettes were sabotagig their own country to get them to give them more rights during WWI anon. They were considered a militant group and were absolutely a fringe movement. The fact they realized their goals does not mean that at the time the majority was in support of them or their ambitions.

Suffragettes were a small portion of the population. Most women were against the right to vote because they feared being drafted, being expected to join volunteer city services, and the prospects of paying taxes themselves. Women realized that the right to vote came with a caveat of conditions and only changed their minds when politicians agreed that women would not be required to take on the same responsibilities as men when granted the right to vote. A shame we didn't maintain those conditions.

If your kid is learning to talk is it better to engage them like a tiny adult, or baby talk them?

I've heard this argued before, by people who presumably knew what they were talking about, but one has to wonder why if that's the case baby talk is instinctual in adults to the point that people even do it to pets. What evolutionary purpose is served by giving people a strong desire to make burbling noises at children?

Maybe it's because it's exciting and elicits a reaction from the baby? Same way people talk to pets.

Literally 22 seconds before your post

Baby talk helps them learn how to make the sounds. You are literally showing them the mouth movement and the sound that comes from it. Mix in some real worlds said slowly to help them understand how the sounds go together. After they are babbling, go to full words but try not to talk too fast.

I've got 2 kids with a third on the way, and the oldest (5) just tried to explain martian terraforming to me. The next generation will be fine if I have any say in it.

Who cares? Kids never grow up into something their parents wanted them to, much less other adults. Parenthood means learning that no matter what you do or don't, you'll mess up raising your kids, especially since every decade has newer, different demands from people than before.

          Anonymous

That doesn't mean throwing all attempts to improve at parenting out the window, it just means accepting that you will not be a perfect parent and your kids won't be perfect children, and that's alright. Love them and try your best anyways.

Try getting there ears checked to make sure they’re hearing properly, if not that find out if they’re on the spectrum. My son had both. His ears are better now and he’s vastly improving but at most speaking 3 to 4 word sentences. His autism isn’t that bad thankfully he just kinda ignores shit he doesn’t care about. Which is often hilarious when people say hi and he doesn’t want to talk he’ll straight up say bye bye.

So THAT'S what this author was on.
Man... I thought the guy was just pathologizing something human and totally relatable: being afraid to talk to your crush. And he WAS turning it into some kind of "toxic male" thing, sure. But now you're saying he was ALSO getting that idea from a misapplied Welles quote.
That makes sense! I'd never put those two together before. I'd heard of that Welles quote, but I didn't realize this comic was referencing that.

I have no dog in this fight but it's sad to hear people arguing about the credibility or lack thereof of Wikipedia.

Wikipedo's problem comes from its policies requiring secondary sources. In the previous example I gave, users tried to get the section removed since, according to Japanese government websites, Near had not committed suicide (or, rather, there was no record it occurred). Despite this, because western outlets were reporting what ended up being falsehoods, Wikipedo kept the section in because including the government information would violate the "no original research" policy, since the article writer would be making a conclusion drawn from the source rather than merely repeating it. So, they repeated the story as presented by clickbait outrage.

well no. everyone agrees on this. wikipedia is a medium. the sources for information are recorded at the bottom of each wikipedia article. wikipedia articles are a conglomeration of other sources. it cannot itself be a source

I personally became disillusioned during the Gamergate saga.

Basically I remember watching all that stuff unfold and realized at the time there were a lot of major interlocking reasons it was happening - social media promoting controversy, the DMCA being used to shut down opposing views, and curating algorithms locking people into info bubbles among others.

But as that wiki page developed, it was taken over by autistic, mistanthropic weirdos who were quick to conclude that Gamergate happened because "humans are just bad, except the side you're on", and they played all these political games to maintain control of the page. The secondary sources thing was abused to hell and back because larger media platforms barely looked into it and only reported "sexist trolls do evil for no reason" and didn't dig at the online ecosystems or try to understand online cultures. There were some articles that DID talk about the online cultures and the different views leading to the debate, and how or why certain perspectives were being spread, but those news sources were smaller than Kotaku at the time so in spite of being more academic and objective in nature, the politics forced those articles to be discounted and thrown out.

I haven't checked but the artists running the page guarded it for YEARS and I won't be surprised if there's still not a single mention of why social media promoted the Gamergate controversy in the first place or what flaws in those systems made such a meaningless event into national news. They focus on "people are bad, I hate people. Don't write about a human's perspective or I'll call the Wiki arbitrators on you."

You realize every Wiki article is susceptible to that, and once you know that, your realize you just can't trust Wikipedia and you'd be as well off scanning Reddit threads for information because at least they have a democratic voting system to signal info quality.

I don't know if you posted this as a joke because this is a semi-sarcastic thread, but.

Can someone please explain what this image means? I don't fully understand. This image implies that demotivational posters and advice animals were ALWAYS used in the same way a person nowadays would use the basedjak meme format, which is not true.
Demotivational posters by most people online would be used with a picture inside the image macro with the bigger text relating to a concept and the bottom smaller text giving the punchline to both the image and concept, often in a very dry but occasionally humorous way. It wasn't a format that mocked people. In some instances it would have a character inside the image macro, their name, and someone describing something pertaining to the character with no punchline at all.

Advice animals on the other hand may have had a few where it was mocking 'certain people' but for the most part it was centered around an archetype/character, a set up, and a punchline that entirely revolved around the archetype. With something bad always happening to Bad Luck Brian or Good Guy Greg always doing a favor. They were cheesy but they were harmless.

The only people who would use them in an intentionally mean spirited or hateful way nowadays would probably be the folks over on r/adviceanimals where they completely butcher the format and use it in a way that either has no joke and is them just discussing a part of their life, or has a joke but it's extremely lame because it's a bunch of sad and pathetic miserable 30 year olds who don't understand modern meme formats and would totally be the same kinds of people to use basedjaks in their "thing I like vs thing you like" comics.

Am I missing some additional context, or is this same thing like the regurgitated opinion that "wojaks and rage comics are the same thing lol" which is also untrue and only based on the fact that they both came from imageboards and were initially conceived in MS Paint.
