holy fricking shit, I did not expect it to die this hard. is it because of anya fatigue, feminist fatigue, or are audiences generally against having a mad max movie without, you know, mad max?

A new Mad Max with Hardy ATJ and Chris would have done better.
There was no need to do a Furiosa standalone prequel. Most of the first hour is entirely unnecessary and uninteresting, the remaining 80 minutes could have been reworked into a combination of flashbacks and events occuring after Fury Road.
It's a shame because ATJ and Hemsworth both exceeded my expectations, Furiosa's bf was great too.

The trailers look like an Asylum rip off, nobody normal who actually spends money knows anything about franchises, spin-offs, prequels or any of that shit. The movie looks bad in ads so nobody watches it

      >feminist
It's not really feminist at all. Men run everything and she just wants revenge for her dead mother. Several instances where men straight up overpower her and her mom, which goes against the feminist power fantasy. It was decidedly anti-feminist if anything.

          >Why are so many approved reviews calling it a feminist movie
The wasteland is unironically extremely patriarchal and savage, it's explictly referred to again and again in the series that only the most ruthless and violent men survive. Women exercise absolutely no agency and are treated like cattle.
Feminists read this as an allegory for western civilization when, in fact, it's the precise opposite of what civilization achieves and the default way of life, to some degree, for the rest of the uncivilized world.

Mad Max just fricking sucks. Super lame universe and aesthetic. I saw it opening day with a few of my homosexual friends who wanted to go see it instead of going to the damn phillies game like I wanted to, and the theater had 7 people total in it. And the movie sucked. 2 1/2 hours of pointless engine noise and 100 lines of half grunted dialogue in the entire movie. True piece of shit

Death Race is absolutely lit. It's the kind of movie where you watch it and you're shocked that film nerds seem to obstinately ignore it. It's a brutal anti-capitalist hate machine. It isn't as smarmily satirical as the original, but it's no less political. Is it as good as Fury Road? No. But it cost like a quarter of what Fury Road did. It didn't have the luxury of endless reshoots and super expensive post-production. It's a well made, visceral, energetic film with a clear vision. It's everything you could ask from a film about racing cars with guns strapped to them.

I think that those trailers for Furiosa with the bad CG damaged the movie. Movies with 168 million dollar budgets need a lot of hype and everyone from all walks of life were commenting on how Furiosa looked worse than Fury Road and ugly in general when they saw the trailer.
