Yeah but it actually seems to be working this time. People I never thought would be following a new gundam series are. Granted I think it's less the school setting that got them and more Suletta and Miorine.

They've literally said this about every AU since Seed. Everything is supposed to be an entry for new viewers that establishes a new universe that can run alongside UC. It never does, and they go back to UC.
They don't even have faith in Ad-Stella cause they're dumping Thunderbolt, Hathaway, and Gundam NT TV cuts right inbetween the cours.

        >They don't even have faith in Ad-Stella cause they're dumping Thunderbolt, Hathaway, and Gundam NT TV cuts right inbetween the cours.
I think it's a combination of production planning and faith in Ad Stella that caused the decision to have TV edits of those shows. They get to take a short break from pumping an episode out every week, so (ideally) they can focus on keeping animation quality up for the following cour. And secondly, the belief that Ad Stella would attract a new audience means a bunch of people who haven't seen those Gundam entries, so while the new crowd is itching for more Gundam, there's a cheap TV production for Bandai and something a little more digestible for new viewers in TV format. That said I think only Thunderbolt is a good choice for this format. Hathaway has a lot of baggage with it's main character, and NT is pretty bad itself, so it may backfire and turn people away from UC.

          Anonymous

It seems really weird to me in general to do a TV edit of Hathaway already. You'd think they'd save it until the trilogy is actually done.

There are only 2 or 3 people even saying they liked Iron Blooded Orphans in the 40 odd comments of that article.

They appear to be tuning the actual conflict around generation tastes this time so that it's not another open war, at least at the beginning, and that's why the show focuses on a school setting at the start; to draw in the viewers they feel are ignoring them. Not even that's entirely new though, since Imagawa was told to make G a tournament anime because those were popular.

            Anonymous

I just googled it to see, but I was imagining more that there are also mechs on the side of the protag who got isekaied.
Like the ELS QanT isekai into SEED for example, though not!Barbatos into not!SEED would be more interesting. You won't have anything outrageously powerful but you'll have nanolaminate armor.

We already had UC having newtype ghosts haunting inside psychoframes. I was actually half expecting the protagonist's father's soul to somehow be sucked into some magical network after his sacrifice in the prologue. Especially with that bright li8ght he was seeing at the end. Together wit that ghostly broadcast of his happy birthday song that couldn't be blocked. And that his spirit might be accessible later in the show in some ghost internet.

What part of the novel implies it? Also, Lady Prospera has exactly the same voice actor, prosthetic arm and mannerism as Elnora, as well as being of roughly the right age to be Elnora a decade on from the events of the prologue; which is how long has apparently passed according to Suletta's memories in the novel. So she's probably Elnora. Which makes Suletta probably Ericht, even if it wasn't the obvious conclusion anyway.

Reminder that Lady Prospera has the exact same voice actor, prosthetic and mannerisms as Elnora, and that Suletta started playing Aerial's "shooting game" at age 4; exactly the same age as when Eri first piloted Lfrith. As well as that Suletta refers to Aerial as a sister, just like Eri referred to Lfrith.

So for Suletta to actually be Eri's mom, Eri would have had to create a mobile suit that looks like Lfrith, then have her daughter start piloting it at the same age Eri herself started piloting, refer to it by the same mannerism as Eri referred to the Lfrith and then end up with the same injuries as her mother as well as grow up to move and sound exactly like her mother. Boy that sure sounds more likely than "no, Suletta is exactly who she seems to be".

Where does it say the Witch Hunt was 13 years ago. You’re avoiding the question.

Where did I say anything about the witch hunt specifically?

No, it wouldn't. No-one moves and sounds exactly like their parents. Most people only look kind of like their parents, never mind how they sound and move. It also doesn't account for Suletta's father at all in that scenario.

          > Could be to mislead the viewer. The twist might be that she's actually telling the truth about how she got them.

Ah, so it's by pure coincidence that she happened to get exactly the same injury and the same prosthetic for the same injury? As well as sounding and moving exactly like her mother.

The series takes place in a relatively peaceful time for once so the stakes are really low. The main conflict seems to be corporations vs the working class instead of the classical earth vs space.

          Anonymous

Yeah, I think it's likely that Prospera is in league with the fat lady who was going to smuggle Miorine. There's likely a covert effort to unseat spacians/established corporations and improve the lot of Earthians.

Yeah, I kind of get what you mean. It feels way too optimistic to be a Gundam series, possibly a bit too stylized. They're trying something very different here, and honestly it doesn't work for me.
Generally I watch Gundam for war, misery and people having a hard time. Even punching-bag SEED, Destiny and AGE had the occasional moment of cruelty (Seed actually has quite a lot of death and suffering) but this is oddly twee by Gundam standards.

It doesn't take place during an already occuring war, so it has huge MSV vibes like Astray or Gekko.

Turn A, G-Reco, ZZ and G are the same way.
      > I watch Gundam for war, misery and people having a hard time
The ethos of Gundam has always been to have a hopeful outlook on the world even if it comes through war.
This isn't a masochistic edgy series like warhammer or elfen lied or higurashi or Halloween that just has suffering for the sake of it.
If you get off to that your missing the point harder than the people who just like the robots.

We'll be getting the Pharact in a few episodes. Still though, it's kind of nice that someone could inherit Tomino's ambition of having a show where there's no Gundam in the first few episodes, like he wanted to do with Victory.

      Anonymous

I'll take the bait, but I'll still give reasoning.

They have said in interviews that this show was specifically made to change the pace and stick with the times. Gundam is often seen by young people as a show for old people. An aging fanbase is not good for the longevity of a business, look at Harley-Davidson.

Gundam has been designed to have the freedom and ability reform and reshape itself with multiple different series throughout the years. Saying it's "pandering hard" is literally Gundams business model in a way to keep itself relevant. Gundam can't be "un-gundam" G-gundam was hated for being un-gundam by a good amount of fans, but it undeniably saved the franchise by opening it up to this model.

Things change, and gundam was made to keep up.

It's also possible that all their beam weapons are at a lower power setting since they're not exactly out to kill each other or punch holes in the colony, thus making it easier for water sprinklers to affect the beams.

They show that Sully doesn't know what a tomato is to show that she's a synthetic human removed from nature who doesn't know what natural food is.
Of course it's very ironic. Nevermind a tomato being a cultivated manmade plant that doesn't exist in nature - eating plants is extremely unnatural for a human in the first place. And we're already so far removed from nature we don't even realise it!

              I was

Those were legit subs in those pics. It's either actually being a skilled pilot or that she's too wienery. Anyway, you think Secelia would fight Suletta at some point? It's pretty easy to say that she'd also fight Chuchu around those times as well.

But since you asked anyways I say it's highly likely since the major cliques are Chuchu's group, Jeturk House, and the Dueling Committee so it's only a matter of time until their conflict - that or it's kids vs adults and all the cliques group together like the Avengers

Okay so this has to be going on in everyones mind now right?
The woman Suletta is calling Mom is not the one in the prolouge, so there are two possible answers:
              1. Suletta is Eri but had amnesia or was brainwashed by the masked woman.
              2. Suletta and Eri are twins so there will be two gundam protags in the coming episodes.

Maybe the coming Lfrith variants are going to be enemies because of the masked woman pretending to be Suletta's mom wanting revenge or something

I liked the idea that Eri is Suletta's mom but the timeline and eyebrows don't match

A monkey is not a human, monkeys are herbivores who can digest fiber, their digestive tract is 20 times lines than their body, while a human's is 5 times longer - like a carnivore's. Because humans are obligate carnivores. This is what I'm talking about, we're so synthetic we don't even know what we're supposed to eat.

It takes us more time and energy to digest meat than vegetable so we are more inclined to being plant eaters.

Various proto-humans and early humans were ominoves so far as the evidence suggests, eating nuts, berries etc. most days and meat every few days as and when they could get kills. Or in the case of some, scavenge the kills of other animals, since various proto and early humans may have actually been scavengers and not hunters or gatherers.

          >Horn is glowing as if it got hit by a light saber.

          Huh?

The horn itself isn't glowing, it just breaks off; what's glowing is the crack on the head where it broke. Which isn't really unexpected, since a lot of energy just got transferred through a tiny point.

Man has been flying high his whole life, unchallenged. First time he encounters a hitch his dad turns on him, slaps him about and puts an AI into his suit to pilot it for him. His whole world is probably crumbling around him, and then he encounters a single decent person who, despite besting him twice, shows him respect.

Suletta is the rock which he's going to be clinging onto, and what better way to do that than to marry her?

Her mum is the ruler of Mercury. It is a small mining colony but it has its own engineers. But it would be too much for the story if you portray the entire backup team needed to maintain a mobile suit. At least, they won't do that until they are in a warship.

Given the presence of AI in this setting, I wouldn't be surprised if Aerial itself can manufacture its own replacement parts by connecting to an external 3D printer/CNC system, and then have a bunch of drones handle the assembly.

Guel asks for a rematch like Saionji does, the Dueling Committee acts like the Student Council. I'm not saying every shot and plot point follows Utena though, last episode's ending is proof of that.

      Anonymous

Think the Utena vibes were really just for the first episode since nothing since then has matched anything in it

Not quite. If anything, the one who should die in the end is Aerial, as with most MS that get destroyed at the end of its story (mostly in UC, since most AU do not end with the main MS destroyed, with IBO being a primary outlier due to the MC dying along with it). We won't be sure if Suletta and Mio will part ways after making it to Earth, but they will almost always come in contact every once in a while. As for the main boys, maybe one or two of them will die while falling out of love for either or both of the girls. I could hope that Shaddiq, ever the ladykiller he is, could survive and run a reformed Beneritt Group to repent the sins of the fathers (primarily Kennanji, hopefully), since he is pretty good in running a business.

    > Suletta "social anxiety" Mercury is cracking the spacenoid corpos apart from the inside by accidentally gaining a harem of their children.
And we already know that the Earthnoids aren't exactly fond of being considered something of an underclass, especially what we've seen of mechanic girl and Chuchu.

What are the odds that, between Suletta getting more of the corpo kids to not follow their parents plans a al Miomio and Guel-kun, and the Earthnoids seemingly having beef with the corporate space oligarchy, do you think we'll actually start seeing a real conflict begin during G-Witch's run? I'd imagine it would be something for the second cour/back half of the series, if at all.

Where do you think G-Witch is going narratively, anon?

There's a flight unit coming, I doubt we'll be seeing any proper upgrades this cour. Maybe in the 2nd half, but doubtful.

So, I’ve got what’s probably a dumb question.
The results of the first duel were voided because Aerial was an illegal Gundam, right? But then they decided that she wasn’t a Gundam. So why did they refight the duel rather than just reverse the decision to void it?

Wait, nevermind. I’m moronic. It’s because that Jeturk fella (stupid name BTW) wanted an excuse to use their new mobile suit to shit on Suletta. Though that also begs the question of why wouldn’t they wait until they had some data on Suletta to feed into the AI rather then just sending it out mostly blind.

Aerial was going to be scrapped and Suletta expelled. Miorine managed to persuade her dad (with the help of CEO Jeturk and other tech hungry corporates) to abide by his own system of duelling and let Suletta fight to legitimise her win.

Jeturk wanting to reclaim their pride is part of it, but mostly it was the board seeing the potential of whatever tech Aerial is using to push back against competitors who are gaining mobile suit market share.

I wonder how Mobile Armors are going to play a role in this.

Maybe they won't at all.The show is already trying to do it's own thing so I don't think it's even guaranteed.

You say that like a show with no mobile armors would be new for Gundam. There weren't many dedicated mobile armors in most shows after the original, because they don't sell as well as mobile suits. Zeta had some, but they were secondary transformations for mobile suits rather than dedicated mobile armors. There are basically none in ZZ though, beyond Puru II using the returning Psyco Gundam Mk II with it's mobile armor transformation for flight, only the Devil Gundam's mobile armor mode in G, none in Wing, none in Turn A and none in AGE so far as I recall.
