There are like 3 big shelves full of manga at my library. That's as much if not even more then the fantasy + sci-fi book section. I doubt they could afford that much shelf space for something that doesn't sell.
American comic book sales are in the gutter. There's going to have to be a mass culling of the current crop of 'writers'. Meanwhile, porn manga makes its way into bookstores under the LGPT label.
