I prefer the original run than the remake or whatever you want to call it. The original quite literally had more soul to it, and better music.
It really did. The tone, lighting, music was superb.
But HxH took a nosedive after York New. It was actually at its best during the Hunter Exam arc since it focused on adventure. Heaven's Arena and York New was good too and while I like how Togashi codified what Nen was, I dislike powers like that. Nen should've only been Conjuring, Transmuting, Manipulating, and Specialization. No Enhancing and Emitting to differentiate from generic shonen ki attacks. Basically the kind of stuff we saw in Yu Yu Hakusho with Territory like Kaito's taboo rules or Gamemaster's reality warping.

I agree with you, anon. I actually took a look at what happened later on and the whole wide world of HxH was just such a fricking mess. I don't understand the purpose of that monster king story arc or Gon going some kind of future-self-super-powered-not-saiyan mode.
I stopped reading before the Chimera arc was over. I was just fed up with it.
What I can respect is Greed Island actually exploring an RPG setting being constructed by Nen and how the kids could exploit the card holders and other factors. It gave them invaluable combat experience.
As for NGL, I really liked Knov's ability. That shit was incredibly versatile in utility. The same for Shoot.
Once Gon did a generic rock-paper-scissors attack and Killua transmuting into electricity (that's his dad's schtick), I was bitterly disappointed. If anything, Gon should've used Enhancing for his fishing rod and other tools; something that he did in the Hunter exam and Heavens Arena a lot. Way more interesting than Kaioken-esque brute force. And Killua could have transmuted into making something like his body developing different chemicals (he is an assassin after all) so he can create toxins, adrenaline to boost his aggression, and other ailments or aids to himself or others if he has enough experience and practice.
No love for Knuckle?
I like Knuckles and Morel but their Nen abilities didn't quite capture my interest like Knov and Shoot. Knuckles' ability is interesting but lending aura against an opponent in the hopes of having them fall in interest penalties is too risky in my opinion.
Maybe but Knuckle's animal kindness makes him win by default.
I agree and his attack actually doesn't cause any concussive damage when he strikes you with Hakoware.
