Literally in 2010-2012 alone we got Regular Show, Adventure Time, Friendship is Magic, Gravity Falls, Gumball, so many shows that made an impact. What the frick do we have now?
Streaming wars have evaporated budgets for everything that's not a potential prestige tent pole, plus the entertainment industry getting fricked by COVID harming budgets in general.
It's dire and it's not likely to get better anytime soon.
The only difference between the 80s and now is we have an animation budget
We're definitely in a new dark age, the question is if the culture in general will allow there to be a new Renaissance eventually or if this is the end of the line.
It took almost 30 years for animation to climb back out of the dark age that lasted from the early 60s to the late 80s. We'll all be old if it takes that long again.
If anyone’s gonna change the game, it will be online. And it will take longer than 30 years, maybe 70

what does this have to do with the show's quality?
People talked about Adventure Time and Gravity Falls not just because they were popular, but also because they were genuinely good. I wanna prove just how far the cartoon field has fallen by showing how little shows we have right now that actually make a cultural impact (liberal propaganda like Velma doesn’t count)

But even so, besides smiling friends how many genuinely memorable shows have their been in the past four years
Smiling Friends is alright. I liked Solar Opposites, YOLO, new Looney Tunes, and the Cuphead Show. Not much else was good.
Cuphead Show was weird, it's not bad but it feels like it isn't as good as it should be.

Forgettable Netflix shows are forgettable and that’s why they’re forgotten. Speaking of forgotten, there was this Netflix show that was about a radio station that people would call into, it was a horror animated series with a cool art style. 1 season, anyone remember this?
I don't even bother with Netflix shows anymore their standards for renewal are so absurd 90% of their shows get cancelled after one season.

Elinor, that’s 1 good show. I was just about to say Bluey can be put up there with smiling friends but THAT CAME OUT IN 2018. The ONLY other show I can think of that’s having an effect on people is Hazbin Hotel, that show has actually great animation even though Vivzie is a horrible writer
