he was more ratlike in description in the books uses buttfricking as a way to keep a leash on the biggest tardstrength simpleton guy on the ship as his muscle, if i remember correctly, though there was some real affection there when shown in his internal voice when he starts going crazy.
>Cornelius Hickey : A man called Cornelius Hickey told me this expedition was a year in the Polar Sea and then out the other side. He told me the ship's plan to stop at the Sandwich Islands and the crew was going to dry out in the sun. "That's the other side of the world," I thought. "A year's nothing." So I dabbed him, left him in Regent's Canal, and here I am instead.
>Francis Crozier : You could have just joined up.
>Cornelius Hickey : I was going to show you my heels when we got to those islands, you know. I was going to hook it, start new. I'd seen the drawings in the weeklies. Oahu. Maui. That sounded nice.

Still doesn't explain why he didn't enlist without taking his identity. Could have done that and still plan to make a run for it all the same.
probably because he was a wanted criminal, it's very unlikely that he was a good boy all his life and only decided to murder a guy one day because he saw nice pictures in a newspaper

I was of the impression that criminals were allowed in the army and navy back then. Depending on how wanted they were of course. My guess if he was that much of a bad boy that they wouldn't let him in, then they would've probably recognised his face or something.
Good show dragged down by the monster. Should have just been a polar bear, or something more explicitly supernatural. Having it be what it was was too noncommittal.
this was the same in the novel for me. it got weaker the more you learn about the monster
Agreed. It was *amazing* until the reveal, and then I was like... seriously?
we talked about this to death in the generals, it's a tv show, not a book. it wouldn't have been worked if they did it like the book, they did the best they could with what they had. we know it's the weakest part of the show, but it doesn't take anything away from it
i'm literally him at this point
show boipussy
Oh we know.
Running like Naruto?
Why did the make the main gay character into a psycho villain and NOBODY called them out on it?
it was based and honest
because homosexuals and wokesters didn't watch this show.
The 2nd season was better anyway.
No it wasn’t George, nobody cares about nips who had to go camping for a while.
They did when it was in the book. The author mentioned about getting backlash from gays in an interview with the producer.

because he's cute and did nothing wrong
*run towards page 10*
oh for GOD’S sake mister hickey, not this again
ADD SALT
what the frick was his problem?
This random scene added nothing to the show but I loved it.
MISTER HICKEY, RELEASE ME FROM THIS ICE PRISON IMMEDIATELY
*shits on your bed*
why did he do it?
>kills the real Mr Hickey
>steals his identity
>decides to stay the navy
Why?....
going into the navy to avoid prosecution/jail is a long standing tradition
He explained it in the show
i don't watch shows
That's fine, I will tell you what he said 🙂

>Character so based even the evil spirit manbearpig chokes on him
why isn't this show, at least season 1 anyway, talked about more?
it was talked about to death already
This and North Water. We loved it while they lasted. Now those threads are lost like piss in ocean
>North Water
What's that like compared to The Terror?

Reminds me of that ol' Black person going to page 10 to be free pasta.
