it was literally always good, it's actually incredible how good it was for it's time. it unfortunately lead to a lot of bad influence on action movies that tried to replicate it's success, but when you consider the context it was only as received as well as it was BECAUSE it was so good, a movie about a rogue brainwashed and abused CIA hitman exposing the global clandestine surveillance apparatus with a distinct antigovernmental message in the days shortly after 9/11 and before snowden? pretty ballsy when you think about it
