Actually, thats a good point. How much does changing gender, age, etc actually mess with your head? Like, does the sudden shift from overwhelming estrogen or testosterones mess with your thoughts?

I think the immediate effects and reactions would depend on the person but it would be a mind frick no matter what. New hormones, new instincts, new body, would leave someone in a very unstable state even if it it had upsides. Not to mention the more existential concerns that might come along with it.

              It's context-dependent.
The joke is that he's a former human put into a large rat-thing's body, and is also an officer because him being transformed into a rat-thing lets the humans work on race relations with the real rat-things so they put him into an important position immediately.
So she unknowingly bonked an authority figure/transformation victim on the head because she thinks he made some dumbass sad.

Yeah, people like to think their brains are just the harddrive where they mind is but everything in the body is intertwine, if a heart transplant can mess with yourself imagine the entire body changing.

The earthsea books tackle this when the wizards turn into animals or people, they struggle because to become something else is a battle to not forget what you where before.

Weird shit like bacteria in your intestines also seem to affect diet or taste too. Everything about the body is connected to the mind.

              >The more I learn about the human body the more I think we are the consciousness of a hivemind (body) fooling ourselves into thinking we are individuals.

probably. There are at least two yous. Each side of your brain is a version of you and they work together via the corpus callosum. If the corpus callosum is destroyed or cut, you can find your hands or legs doing things without your conscious thought. And not stupid random things. Like dressing you, picking up things. etc. Who you are can also can change depending on where you are no the hierarchy of needs.. Then add in the impact diet, hormones, stomach health, sleep quality, age have on how you think. There is so much more to the mind than our conscious mind.

I laugh at people who think we will one day upload our minds to computers. Even if you could, it wouldn't be you. It would diverge from you via the nature of the hardware it is stored on. At best it would be a clone or a child. But it would be you

I don’t even want to imagine what trying to do something like that would do to the mind.

Didn't he balance it by becoming faster in girl form or something? I haven't read it in years, so I might be misremembering.
Then again, they were always coming up with funny bullshit to sidestep powerlevels, so it probably doesn't matter as much.

            Anonymous

No, Ranma's female form is consistently portrayed as weaker across the board. He's not above acting like a shameless prostitute though, which is usually how he makes up for it.

            Anonymous

If I recall the big thing isn't power or speed, it's reach. At first he's like 'Why the frick can't I hit shit?' and even after realizing it still has to compensate.

            Anonymous

The story that introduced Mousse pointed out how Ranma's arms and legs are a lot shorter so he has a lot of reach problems in a fight. But overall he is weaker as a girl, but still significantly more powerful than most of the regular cast and could still beat any of them in a fight.

One story had Ryoga accidentally hitting Ranma with a love spell, which turned into a hatred spell, Rypga was terrified of angry murderous female ranma.

      >Birdy the Mighty
Not really. Since Birdy's her own person and the owner of the body, it'd be closer to say that she has to transform into a man to live out a mundane school life. Birdy and Tsutomu mind/body swap, so there's much more disconnect. At most, he can backseat drive while she's in control, and she can give him access to some of her powers while he's in control.

Imagine the possibilities for how to keep the insects together when not fighting

        >use a hazmat-type suit to look like a cool fembot or beekeeper (literally if the insects are bees)
        >wrap them in rags or a scarecrow-ish suit to basically be the female equivalent of Oogie Boogie
        >If the bugs have the ability to create wax or silk, have them create a body made out of those to appear as either a creepy web mummy, a beautiful silk ghost or some weird honeycomb/wasp nest golem

There's actually potential in this for a uniquely weird character. There are a few characters like Swarm or The Thousand, but no one talks about them much. Plus, who is going to challenge the gender identity of a swarm living in a containment suit?

That all sounds cool. There'd be a lot of room to try different looks. I think there'd also be potential in dealing with how the guy goes from having one mind to millions of minds each time he transforms; that's bound to mess with the head.

Joe was probably the one person least equipped to handle the task of being transformed into a woman given that he was a misogynist and had rapist friends. I imagine someone more normal would fare much better given that they don’t lose the thing that transformed them in the first place.

Joe was the most realistic outcome of something like that, no money, no identity no way to get your lilfe back on track.

          Anonymous

That comic may be a product of the time but I would think that now with how many people have legally transitioned between genders, it wouldn’t be too challenging to go about proving your identity if you were suddenly turned into a woman (at least in the U.S.)
I feel like I remember seeing thread somewhere some time ago where someone thoroughly explained how you could go about proving your identity if you were transformed into the opposite sex, which if I remember comes down to producing things like your ssn and proof that you pay taxes or something.

            Anonymous

Sure between a well know trans person that slowly transitions but someone that was a pretty buff guy one day and the next a blond supermodel pretends to be him I would say most would assume the woman is committing identity theft.

              Anonymous

From a standpoint of securing legal documentation that proves your identity it doesn’t really matter if your current appearance is completely different from what your photo IDs suggest. Trying to convince your boss, family, friends that you are who you say you are is a much different task, especially if your new body has little to no resemblance to your old one. But the cliche of “tell me something only the real anon would know” can still work.
To Joe’s fault, he’s clearly not a very resourceful guy and doesn’t have any skills beyond manual labor. I would think someone else in his situation would be able to figure out a way to get their lives on track after being turned into the opposite sex.

                Anonymous

To be fair even Joe's GF had a hard time believing his story. I think the issue here is that Joe's doesn't look at all like himself as a woman, is like a completely different person, summed to that the change was instantaneous so so nobody would assume this complete different person is who she say she is.

                >From a standpoint of securing legal documentation that proves your identity it doesn’t really matter if your current appearance is completely different from what your photo IDs suggest.
I'm a little confuse by this, wouldn't not looking like yourself be a problem? there is a reason why you have a photo in your passport and drivers license, I think if there is a place where your looks would be put under scrutiny would be securing legal papers, if it wasn't identity theft would be much easier.

                Anonymous

                >wouldn't not looking like yourself be a problem?

                >I feel like I remember seeing thread somewhere some time ago where someone thoroughly explained how you could go about proving your identity if you were transformed into the opposite sex, which if I remember comes down to producing things like your ssn and proof that you pay taxes or something.
                desuarchive.org/d/thread/9957026/#q9957264

. Having possession of your birth certificate and SSN are most important. Bureaucratically the government doesn’t care what you look like. All you would need to do is have your photo IDs updated, have your gender corrected, and change your name if desired.
Now say if you were a white guy one day and a black woman the next trying to get this sorted out, maybe the DMV clerk or whatever government employee might raise their eyebrows if they see a photo of your old self. If they accuse you of identity theft, that’s where the proof of payment of taxes and bills will help you. Also the fact that there isn’t going to be someone out there who you would be theoretically stealing the identity of.

There are a few cases of men being magically transformed into women by an outside force (all of them inolving Zatanna) and in each instance they all choose to remain that way. Since these are normal people with no way of getting back to their old selves on their own, there must be some legal precedent in the DCU for having your identity transfer over.

I've been a fat guy and a slim guy and people just treat you better when you are more attractive. Add in being a hot woman with super powers and literally the only problem you'd have would be super villains. Normal people would treat you wonderfully.

You get to have powers when you transforms but never the same powers, would you still do it?

I recon while all that bizarre stuff exist is less common for a civilian to actually experience it first hand, lets take celebrities for example they exist, they are famous but the chances of you meting one IRL are slim unless you work in the business. Same with supernatural occurrences also while alien invasions might be common as there are many aliens going around some random person claiming to be another person sounds more like something for the mental asylum that a superhero to handle.

                >You get to have powers when you transforms but never the same powers, would you still do it?
At the end of the day super powers are super powers. I don’t really care if I’m rolling the dice every time and turning into a hot girl is just sweetener for the deal.
Now a more interesting caveat would be if you turned into a different looking woman every time you power up. A 6 year old girl, an 85 year old woman, a fat black chick or literally anything else, would you still do it?
                >I recon while all that bizarre stuff exist is less common for a civilian to actually experience it first hand
If super villain based crime is common enough in Gotham to warrant a guy to use military grade gear to fight crime I would imagine most people would have their own experience with it or know someone who does. Alien invasions or other world ending events wouldn’t be common but publicized to the point people would have to know that the chances of something supernaturally bizarre happening to them at any point are non-zero.

nice numbers, but also I agree to a point, while its true you have to consider the level of weirdness normal people deal day to day, sure this might be a world where alien invasions exist and some plant lady steals money from a rich people gathering form time to time, but that is still less weird that someone turning into a woman out of nowhere. Is not completely impossible but still improvable enough that a normal person would have trouble believing someone who got genderbent they are who they say they are.

Not sure what changed about the zeitgeist. Back in the day a character being turned into a woman was treated as some horrible circumstance. Now I'd wager people would regard it as a blessing

I think contrary to what most guys would say, there is (to a major extend in the past) a disparity between men and women, and for a lot of old school creators becoming was a downgrade because of it.

            >Now I'd wager people would regard it as a blessing

It would be horrible to become an average or below average woman

But some super powered model? Most of women's problems go away if they are strong or hot.

A more interesting story would be a good woman become a hot super man and becoming a villain because she was only good because half of society could have beat her to death.

This might come as a surprise to you but women on average are worse people than men. They are 20% more likely to be child abusers, meaning that there is a greater chance of women become a villain if put in a position of power over weaker people

Joe lived in Gotham didn't he? Here's what he needed to do:
          >Go to the police headquarters
          >Explain you're a new superheroine and need to contact Batman
          >Show off powers in harmless way if they don't believe you out of hand
          >Wait about half an hour until Batman or one of the hanger-ons show up
          >Explain your situation.
          >They already know about the Dial, so they can help you with that, or they can call Zatanna to detransform you.
          >Worse comes to worse, they can help you get an identity and put your life in some semblance of order.
Also if he didn't live in Gotham, didn't trust in the police, or didn't want to mess around with the scary bat, he can get in a car, go to Metropolis and do the same thing but with Superman.

Rookie super heroes having an identity crisis sounds like something that Bruce and Clark would consider to be below their paygrade. I’d think Joe could eventually get in touch with someone in the JL who could help him but I have to imagine walking into the PD and requesting a meeting with Batman or Superman would be like walking into Amazon Headquarters and demanding a meeting with Jeff Bezos.

I think in this Era of DC Batman was kind of an urban legend and Superman was a blink and you miss him event, in that same comic one guy tries to commit suicide by becoming a flying hero, going to the stratosphere and depowering. Supes saves him in the nick of time but doesn't stay long enough to even ask what was an average Joe guy doing falling miles above earth in the middle of nowhere.

The more I thought about it, he’d have better luck getting Batman or Superman’s attention by committing a petty crime and hoping that he can explain himself before he gets his lights punched out.

Joe was probably the one person least equipped to handle the task of being transformed into a woman given that he was a misogynist and had rapist friends. I imagine someone more normal would fare much better given that they don’t lose the thing that transformed them in the first place.

It could be fun, but in Modern Day TG works are impossible to write good. They'd be too safe, too self-congratulatory and all about womanhood being super speshul and valid uwu. A genuinely in-depth take on the premise couldn't involve modern politics or outlooks at all.

Good GenderBend stories have the GB element just as a catalyst but no the entire premise. Ranma without the GB is still a funny martial art romcom but Ranma's curse is a fun source of shenanigans and comedy.

Speaking of Ranma, something I really like is that Ranma still acts like a dude when transformed (sans when he purposely acts girly and cute in order to take advantage of his hot chick body).
Most manga of the last 15 years have the gender bended guys instantly acting girly or being perfectly fine with wearing girl's clothes the day after the gender bend happened.

The story works because the GB is just one of the many crazy things that happen in that world. Also it works as a way to get the characters into trouble due to misunderstanding or using Ranma's curse to their advantage. Is not just an excuse to have yuri in your story.

Yeah but op asked about becoming a super woman that can still turn into a man. Comic women age slowly or not at all. You'd also always have a slim attractive body for your age. Super women rarely become old hags.rhey typically age great

You could just be a hot super woman until you're old and ugly then live out your retirement as a man.

And if you changed into a normal woman I guess it depends on the age you start at and if you win a genetic lottery with your female half. Like if you got a banging bomb shell body that had trouble getting fat, didn't feel pain during birth, came easily from PIV and didn't go through menopause until your 60s, you'd have a pretty easy perfect life for 44 years. That's longer than most men

Ideally it would be a small part of the story and every fifth or so chapter might have a few pages about life being different. Maybe put in some cheesecake where the new body has to get new clothes and you see them in their undies.

Also, show don't tell. So much this, show don't tell.

Like don't have a page of text talking about how women have it hard. Just show it in a funny or interesting way and let the reader make up their own mind. Like instead of a giant wall of text about women getting grobed, have some unknown guys cup the heroes butt and then after some antics, have him clobber the guy or change back into a guy mid butt grab, making the molester freak out

I think a continuation to this story could work as long as you don't use it as straight up gender politic story, I do believe someone loosing their security and family after "becoming trans" is a valid reading but definitely not the text or subtext of the story.

I think is more interesting to see where Joe/Jo story could go now that he has hit rock bottom, something interesting about it is that in no way is this a divine punishment or a something that he brought to himself, he just go unlucky and his life kind of went to the gutter after it, I think now a days you heard more stories of people falling into disgrace after being unable to pay a hospital bill or loosing their jobs by no fault of their own and falling on disgrace, in that sense there are a lot of people like Joe so its the kind of underdog you want to see succeed.

Alright Cinemaphile enough beating around the bush with random powers and the pros/cons of being a one to one female version of yourself, and the nightmare of being an actual woman or troony irl. Let's go all gas no breaks.

Your female form can have any appearance you want. You can be anything from a hot female version of yourself to a monster girl, the only requirement is that you have to have a vegana when your powers are active.
You can choose any power you want as long as its not reality warping or any kind of shape shifting that would let you use your super abilities in your male form.
You maintain a male mind. You don't have to deal with hormones, periods, pregnancy (unless that's your thing) The only difference is you still have female erroneous zones.
You are isekai'd to another dimension where being a super powered hot chick would actually be fun. This can be one of the Big Two, any anime/manga you want, or your own original setting.

    Go frickin' nuts you degenerates.

I choose the damsel in distress power which allows anyone trying to rescue/save/defend me to be filled with determination and the power of friendship in a generic Shonen series where the MC and arc villain scream at each other to get stronger. On a technical level, I am the most useful character, but to everyone in the verse, I am useless.

The problem is your power makes you a great waifu, and you may want to stay in female form forever.

If I have to choose one power I think I would like to have the Plastic Man set.
Even though I wouldn't want to use my powers just to turn back into a man, there might be situations where I may need to disguise myself, which in that case can there be an exception for me to turn into one without the penis?

Oh boy. My female form would be a symbiote chick from Marvel, maybe Scream or She-Venom. Those would be my powers, as well.

I'd put myself in the DC universe - I'd want to have a fresh start in a world of superheroes, and people would assume I was associated with Spider-Man if I went into Marvel. Specifically, I feel like Gotham would be a great place for me to live.

After that, I'd just do regular superhero shit (stopping muggers and villains, etc.), and my meta knowledge of comics would allow me to get around just fine. My male self would get a life, but that wouldn't be the main focus.

Maybe I'd be asked to join a team one day, in which case I'd reveal my secret identity to them, just to see how they'd react to some femme fatale monster chick being a guy. Thoughts?

      >>The only requirement is that you have to have a vegana when your powers are active

So, hypothetically, you could have a male-looking hermaphrodite deal where you still could look like a man, but have a pussy along with a wiener down there like the classic futanari setup?

I would say giving yourself a penis in addition to a vegana would violate the spirit of the contract, but I can't stop you from imagining anon.

Is Mantra an actual fun read or just fetish bait? I have a soft spot for the Ultraverse in general.

I've read it to a point, I think is entertaining and fun but is a mix bag, sometimes the story is pretty good and sometimes is a hollow excuse for fapbait. I think Lukaz (the main guy trapped in the body of a woman called Eden) has a great character arc going from cynical immortal warrior that doesn't really cares for other people to a decent person who starts questioning how he acted in the past.

That being said the comic is kind of unintentionally misogynistic, at first it follows the whole (chauvinistic guy has to learn to be a woman) but every character either thinks being a woman is the worse or tries to frick Mantra because is hot.

Seems to be the way of it. How many people understand women and men well enough to write this and can pull back enough to either A not make it preachy and political or B sexiest in one direction or the other?

Apparently you have to be little Japanese woman in the 80s that might be a perverted lesbian to not do either and apparently those are in short supply

Are we talking about Ranma becacuse that comic has problems in some areas, like how they make a point of girl Ranma not being as strong but never bothering to find a solution outside of turning into a guy again ASAP.

How is that a problem? The curse is to turn him into a specific teen girl that is smaller than him. Even if she lifted weights she would never be a strong as male ramna who also trains

Have you ever looked into this? Every teen male can reach the same weight lifting goals for upper body as all the Olympic female power lifters. The only exception might be the weighted squat.

I think some women can actually grow more mass in the hips and glute but they are 1. Genetically gifted 2 she would not have known that in the 80s and 3. To utilize superior leg strength, female ramna would have to learn an additional method of fighting that focused on leg strength.

To have gotten that it would have been pure luck in the 80s. Like she just copied xhun li out of pure happenstance

You also have to consider that ramna might not have been able to increase the muscle mass of his girl form, making it kind of a wash. There is a good chance it would just reset since was a curse.

You ever see that movie "The Fallen"?
A disembodied spirit that can jump from body to body, instantly possessing people, just by touching them for an instant. That's the power i'd want. It doesn't even matter if, for the sake of this discussion, you limit it to only working on female bodies because i'd be possessing women 99.9% of the time anyway.
Imagine taking control of a woman's body and just stripping down and jerking off right in the middle of the street in front of everyone, then when a cop shows up to arrest her you jump into the cop's body and watch the poor girl try to explain herself. Going on stage at amateur night in a strip club in some random housewife's body, making a blushing bride molest the flower girls in front of her entire wedding party, possessing a cheerleader and coming on to her very drunk mom, possessing a random nun and uploading videos to pornhub, possessing a certain climate activist and starting an Onlyfans, the possibilites are endless.

Sure why not, first you save the day, then you get back home to jerk off in front of a mirror before the effect wears off.

I mean I can pretend to be overpowered and its like rape. Definitely rape in his mind. Its just a minefield because a lot of things are turns off and I'll be having none of it.
