>Ahsoka had 14 million viewers
I don't know how good of a metric that is, but LEGO sets from Ahsoka are selling better than any other based off nuWars series did in their time. Which makes me believe it might in fact be quite popular.
>Checked out the premier
Notice the wording. Almost 14 million people clicked on the show to watch the first episode. How many finished it? How many watched the second?
fricking this. also considering "im already paying for this service, so i can take a look at absolutely no cost/risk" is a lot different than going to the movies for something you're hesitant on. that fricking "rebel moon" shit is #1 on netflix and nobody likes it.
Most streamed, counting only the first thirty seconds including the preview when left highlighted, from a holiday weekday in a year before a leap year on a day that is divisible by 2 after entering the age of Aquarius with Libya having a population greater than at least 6 million and on a full moon.
It's worse than that. I let the cursor hover on some Netflix show because I had to do something else. Trailer played for ten seconds before I got back to keep scrolling.
Later I went down the list and found a category "Because you checked out [show you stopped scrolling on]:" so the ign article is literally meaningless, which you should already know.
Tldr: 16M people turned on Netflix and were exposed to the trailer for the featured new show, no stats on how many actually chose to watch it.

They've been doing these bizarre semantic lies for quite awhile now. "checked out" literally means SJWs/paid people put the preview on EVERYONE'S home-screen as a "what's poplar/new now", and the preview auto-playing means you "checked it out"
There's a reason why it's not "x watched, x finished series", it's some bizarre and subjective "checked out" quantifier
That'd be too many Indians, Harry and Ron already have Indian dates to the dance who are recurring characters in the books and will thus get more screentime than in the movies in a series format.
They all look too old, again. Are they afraid of actually appealing to the correct age demographic like Harry Potter did in the early 2000s? Percy was like 11 in the first book.
Live-action is just not a good medium for these sprawling child-led media franchises. Harry Potter worked because that series was huge enough to basically enforce non-stop production for ~10 years straight.
Things that aren't surefire bets have to deal with start and stop productions, which allow the kids to age faster IRL than their character is supposed to. The first season of this show wrapped in February. A second season won't realistically start shooting until late next year. That's likely an ~18 month gap any further seasons will also deal with. You might as well cast older from the start.
Things are gonna get real interesting by 2030. The entertainment industry is in a total tailspin right now and don't see this current trajectory being sustainable given how badly so much of this content is bring received by a sizeable portion of the potential audience
hollywood will be bailed out by the government the same way the banks were
if you don't willingly pay for the propaganda you will do so by force, they don't give a shit
How big is that portion really? Is it just us or do other places or people really give that much of a shit? Anytime I complain about blacks taking over media my parents are the only one who ever agree and my friends(who used to say Black person all the time in high school and made racists jokes all the time) act like I’m a neo nazi >inb4 “us”
There's gotta be way more than you think. I would have never considered myself racist but the constant media bombardment of the last few years has frankly broken me down psychologically. I have a massive case of Black fatigue and even seeing a black character by this point just makes me wanna avoid a piece of media altogether.

I wasn't a noticer until I couldn't help but see blacks in every single commercial and TV show, even in settings where it wouldn't make sense.
The secret is that no one watches anything now
There are no fricking "hit shows" anymore
Old fricks remember when there were shows everybody watched, and also remember "sleeper hits" that were often excellent shows with limited audiences that had to fight for every dime of budget and every minute of airtime
Somehow television production is now a billion dollar money hose pointed directly into the trash, an entire Ashcan Industry.
Did you know that Burnham will be the longest running Star Trek captain soon? Her seventh year on television is coming up. The Kenan Thompson of Star Trek (that's a meanspirited SNL reference, for you youngsters)

That's the entire problem, these shows don't have to be watched anymore.
Companies care far more for "engagement metrics" now over actual watch time, that's why all these shitty bait products keep being pushed out, keeps people talking about them, better to have people know about your shitty show, than it being just another terrible show.

i've noticed that this is the same story for the music industry. the only people who really know of any pop songs are turbonormies, and there's basically zero bleed through of those songs into other media outside of those dogshit singing/talent shows. shit, you can look at the top 40 charting songs and the vast majority of them have been there for over 6 months

The fact that Taylor Swift has more of a stranglehold on pop music today than she did fifteen years ago does not bode well
And I'm saying this purely from a timeline perspective, not any specific criticism of her, it's like how somehow "Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise" means the same thing for a summer marquis no matter if it's the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s or 2020s and that sure as frick isn't how Movie Stars used to function

There's simply too much media and too many ways to consume it for any current celebrity to become mega famous at this point. People can basically pick and choose the content they wanna watch and no one is reach a huge audience in that kind of environment.

>Did you know that Burnham will be the longest running Star Trek captain soon? Her seventh year on television is coming up.
Unless STD is going for like 10 years, that wont be the case. Both TNG and Voyager had 7-year runs with one captain. Mike Burnham wasn't the captain until later in STD's run. She wasn't even in the captain's role like Sisko during DS9's early seasons.
Either way "longest serving captain" is moronic since Shatner played Captain Kirk for decades, even outside of nuTrek. And besides nuTrek will just make up "firsts" anyway and treat their pet like she's the first black woman in Star Trek.

Sisko, Uhura and La Forge were popular characters because of their own merits. They had personalities and flaws, and were responsible for their own actions. All the racial commentary was for alien species that the show just made up for that particular episode.

Alien species were often allegories for current issues at the time.
I only watched TNG but I just miss the optimism. While humanity had its drama and downsides at the end of the day it was an ideal society that got past all the modern issues. And they traveled the universe finding a better way to deal with allegories for modern times.
But the federation was mature enough to get past all the petty squabbling and was essentially an ideal society.
Now they have to pretend everyone is evil and racist

the Federation's post-scarcity economy had to collapse because the robotic slaves based on Data's design underpinning it all revolted, even though they apparently had a post-scarcity economy before those slaves were built, and the very idea of building such slaves is both anathema to the morals of the Federation and physically prevented by the events of "Measure of a Man"

The good news is that nuTrek isn't actual Star Trek. It's a licensed spin-off property created in-house by the current owners of the original property. It's recognizably different in look and tone and concept from the original property ON PURPOSE. Basically, they're creating a lame Mass Effect rip-off grab-bag of sci-fi tropes and slapping the "Star Trek" brand on it.

TNG had fantastic morals that make the show timeless. >Different cultures have different values and we have to accept that not everyone thinks the same >You must accept your flaws and try to use them to your advantage >Even when you lose, don't get discouraged or give up. You can't help everyone.
And it was all told with nuance and care.

That episode where they visit the species that’s just discovered warp travel was great. It felt very poignant that the president decided to step back from progress because while it might have theoretically been better it was clear the species wasn’t ready to take that step yet.
You shouldn’t ignore the people’s distrust and fear, even if it is born out of ignorance. and it was a good episode that weighed that debate and had a good conclusion I feel would almost always go the opposite direction.

I'm dying to see Paramount's internal metrics. They must see TOS and TNG massively outperforming their new slop they spent hundreds of millions on. Kirk and Picard has such massive cultural impact that people who have never seen a single episode can recognize them, name their actors, and even and even their catchphrases. Nobody recognizes the new casts and they'll be immediately forgotten.

“Go woke go broke” is over memed but genuinely these race swaps and other retcon nonsense are confusing and awkward to any average viewer. HOTD is the only recent media I can think of that’s done this and has been well received, but they may ruin that in coming seasons like the Witcher did (at least the troony casting leak was not true). The box office has been abysmal lately, propped up by capeshit which is also starting to fail. The industry has to pivot to survive but I’ll take years because they need to actually write and produce watchable content that doesn’t make the viewer feel uncomfortable or insulted.
Honestly I think this would be a problem if they’d at least hire attractive minorities.

>“Go woke go broke”
It's "Get woke, go broke."
"Go woke" is only said by boomers and moronic non-Americans who pick-up memes and pop-culture second-hand and have to make it lame and awkward for their foreign sensibilities.
We're all dead to them. They don't need us to watch any of this. All of this "woke" shit is a time capsule being sent into the future so a reptilio-cyborg space israelite can glance at it and quickly conclude that everything done during the "great reset' period was morally justified.
They are intentionally crashing the world so it "doesn't fall into the wrong hands." What is being shown in the media is just part of the cover story since naturally the ones engineering the crash intend to save themselves.
The woke shit started in the late 90’s and by tge late 2000’s it was becoming visible. 2010 was when all of these race and genderswaps started. 2013 was when it became unbearable and you started to see the line of “get-woke-go-broke” starting to be used.
We are a decade off from that and these studios still have not gone broke.
> We are a decade off from that and these studios still have not gone broke.
Paramount, Warner and Disney are just about broke. All three studios can reasonably be gobbled up by tech giants. But All those companies are also corrupted by the mind virus. So nobody is going to swoop in and return your favorite franchise to its glory days.
>13MILLION PEOPLE SAW FIRST EPISODE >ok... how about episode 2? >UMM.... DONT ASK..... JUST DONT OKAY?
lmao, I was one of people who "watched" this, for like 5minutes, I saw Black folk and then turned it off. No one like this and no one gonna watch this. cope and seethe leftie-chuds.
Disney has disclosed they report watch only if the account has watched 80% of the movie's length, which is pretty reasonable.
Friendly reminder that digital analytics, unlike ticket sales, are propietary and any streaming service can categorize an interaction ("checked out", lol) as literally any unidimensional metric they want, down to people who watched the automatically playing teaser appearing on the front page.
Investors would abandon them immediately if they lied. Netflix even makes their watch-hours public on weekly basis, for example Rebel Moon was watched for 23 million hours last week, which would amount to around 10 million full views.
>They are abandoning Disney
They were, which is why Disney has become more transparent regarding their reporting in the recent months. I am 100% convinced they will also release the stats to public soon to renew the investor trust.

>The first episode of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” brought in 13.3 million viewers in its first six days on Disney+ and Hulu. >This number puts the series among the top five most-watched season premieres in all of 2023 on both streaming services. While the exact titles that make up the top five lists are unknown, both platforms released major titles this year
>puts it in the top five most watched premier on disney+ and hulu for 2023 >no we don't know what the top five are though, but it's in there
wtf is this
>no we don't know what the top five are though, but it's in there
Disney has only started consistently reporting their numbers last month, the rest of the year is a mystery unironically.
It's interesting to me that these box office numbers were considered disastrous enough for the studio to just pull the plug and go "Frick it, we're not doing the rest of the books, you're all fired"
It really makes a lot of "IT BROKE EVEN" shills for a lot of movies look like absolute morons
Movies were more profitable back then so a movie turning a modest profit meant the sequel would get shitcanned in favor of a movie that would likely turn a mega-profit. It wasn't enough to be profitable, it has to be the most profitable. Mega-profits are all but gone, so now a modest profit is enough to get a sequel.
“Percy Jackson” author Rick Riordan explained to Entertainment Weekly that making his franchise more diverse by casting Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase in the upcoming Disney+ series was always staying true to the reason he wrote the “Percy Jackson” books in the first place.
>I always meant for the books to be diverse >I just sorta forgot to make anyone black while I was writing 'em
why does this happen to so many authors?
JK Rowling said she loved Black Hermoine and Twitter threw in her face all the excerpts she wrote about how pale Hermoine was
You either nod your head and agree with the identity politics brigade or they cancel you and ruin your career. It's easier just to roll with it if you wanna keep getting paid
It goes beyond that. Rowling is a literal billionaire. These people get addicted to the praise and adoration from their adult-children fan bases and are terrified of losing it.

I swear a big reason GRRM stopped writing was that he couldn't beat the internal struggle between his desire to be a progressive hack and his autistic worldbuilding
>I've created a very diverse fantasy setting; see, here is Fantasy Europe, where everybody's white, except for Fantasy Spain, they're all a bit dusky because centuries ago they had a big migration from the Fantasy Middle East, which is the crossroads with Fantasy Africa and Asia, then... >Make the Targaryens black. >W-well the Targaryens were famous womanizers, perhaps one Targaryen prince slept with a foreign barmaid and unknowingly sired a very beautiful and wise black girl with the gift of the dragons and- >Make Winterfell black.
I mean for frick's sake the books have two different major plotlines about people discovering cheating wives because their kids have incorrect hair colors, how do you rationalize that with modern casting techniques where every medieval village has the demographic profile of the Bronx

GRRM's worldbuilding is garbage. The more autistic he gets, the worse he gets. He excels at plot and dialog when tasked under certain constraints, which he hasn't been under since the success of his HBO series, which is why the books never got finished and it'll be endless dumb Targshit from now until the end of time.
I love GRRM because he's a fat American and proves that Americans are superior, even sloppy disgusting lazy ones. It took one to make Britain's fanfic because bongs are all hapless cucks. But I'm not gonna pretend he wasn't already doing dumb shit on his own before woke politics forced HBO to make major characters inexplicably black.

HotD so utterly fricked the relationship of the Blacks by making the Velaryons black. Rhaenys and Corlys backed Rhaenyra because they never doubted that Jace, Luke and Joffrey were Laenor's. The show they're explicitly not his, whereas in the show they all have brown hair when both of their parents have white-blonde hair, but Rhaenys' Baratheon blood could be a reason for this hair anomaly. Point is, there's a plausible reason for it, and besides, House Strong is full of blondes, so it's not like Harwyn's hair matches theirs.
On top of that, they completely fricked with Nettles and might cut her from the show (she still hasn't been cast yet) because her uniqueness is completely cut when there's other black-skinned dragonriders in the story. Is she a dragonseed, or did she find another way to bond with a dragon without Valyrian blood, that could give us clues into what might have happened with Quentyn if he's still alive?
the canceled prequel pilot that never saw the light of day even after being filmed for $30 million had this cast and was set during the building of The Wall in the North
yeah and Hollywood accidentally did a huge racism by basically making the story "there used to be black people in Westeros and they all got turned into the white walkers"

Absolutely baffling move in a series which relies so heavily on physiognomy. Everyone’s so interbred that laenor/rharnyea and laena/daemon’s kids should have looked like siblings but for some reason the latter kids are as dark as their mother, even though she is half as dark as her father (because she had a white mother). How did Corlys even get so dark if every other valarian was clearly white? Insulting to the audience to be so autistic about genes then just toss it away. >Nettles
Actually what the frick were they thinking

>How did Corlys even get so dark if every other valarian was clearly white?
I've been posting this since the show came out, but after what we heard about Project Blood Moon and the Children of the Forest being black, I believe they are toying with the idea of making black people some kind of Drow race in that universe. Not in any over-the-top supernatural way but Blackness™ will be portrayed as a force of nature that persists and re-emerges through the mother's line (similar to Judaism). That's how you can get a mother giving birth to a half-white child that is none the less two shades darker than her. It's why Corlys gave his monologue about his house being older than the Targs and yet he looks no more than one generation removed from sprinting through the Serengeti.
Their blackness is itself magic. Even still, though, the notion that Monke and Alicent can remark that Ser Cristan "must be Dornish" and yet nobody in Westeros notices these genuine Alabama Blue Gum Black folks lurking all over the place just reduces everything to a dishonest farce penned by white women, regardless if they ever explain the black Valayrons

The most important here is that Percy Jackson is shit. It's Greek mythology written for tweens by a tween.
I can't watch the show because I can't take the Velaryons seriously.
There is a Velaryon in the books, a bastard, who looks so much like Rhaegar that Cersei got completely befuddled by him. Rhaegar was meant to be this super hot dude, and the Velaryons in HotD aren't even moderately attractive.
Publishing houses used to actually give a shit about new authors having sales figures, so when a white author released a book that would hit a white demographic with a largely white cast, they didn't interfere.
Most authors are liberals and just sort of go along with the new progressive trend until they slip up and say something that would have been 100% fine 5 years ago but is now a cancelable offense
>"er Mr. Shekelberg I actually wrote Annabeth to be a white bl- >fired from his consulting role, labeled a racist white supremacist on twitter, loses the rights to his books in civil court
At first the dude said it was because disney literally demands it, then he ~~*suddenly and inexplicably*~~ changed his tune and said she was the best person for the role.
Authors don't care, especially ones writing slop for teens and 'young adults.' Most of the ones that make it aren't the pure doing-it-out-of-love Tolkien style autists. They're basically yes men that chase trends or follow their publishers commands (who are also chasing trends). If you're one that visits book stores regularly you'll see when a new trend drops. Entire sections change for years. These people have been following corporate check lists well before Hollywood.
Meh, the witcher author said the same thing. Most just don't give a frick and want the bag, no matter how much they butcher their shit as long as they get their share.

God I wish this was animated. You're practically spending that budget on CGI anyways and you can be as book accurate as possible.
Can't even say animation is a meme anymore because of how successful Spiderverse is.
>checked out
What does this even mean? I doubt it mean viewers or they would have said that. Are they so desperate that they're now including people who only read the description or watched the preview. Lmao
Always found it weird that "representation" in the US meant "Black People", because aren't Latinos a bigger ethnic group than Blacks? And yet there aren't as many in media compared to Black people, I think if anyone "deserves" representation in American media it's them, not Blacks.
Also Natives, rarely see them too despite being quite literally the first people in the country, feel like they are more deserving of "representation" than Blacks too.
It just feels like Black people are this "special" ethnic minority, like they are the go-to for looking like you are doing something progressive, they even made a term to highlight Black people because POC was too broad I guess and the other races weren't as oppressed, now we have BIPOC (that includes Natives too but I can count on one hand the number of times it's been used in reference to them, it's 99% used for Black people). Even in media that does include Natives and Latinos, it's the Blacks that are used in advertisements and stuff.
Blacks are the pet of white middle and upper class leftists so of course they're what they mean when they talk about diversity. hispanics really don't give that much of a shit unless they're also middle class and raised in affluent majority white neighborhoods.
Representation and diversity in American media basically only means adding more blacks, gays, and females to content preferably all 3 at once. Latinos and Native Americans are barely acknowledged and Asians are probably more discriminated against than even whites
I say the same thing everytime
If they aren't SEEN being inclusive and progressive whats the fricking point?
Just shove a bunch of black people in there and at a glance the cast screams diverse on the posters
Natives/Latinos sometimes look very white and Russians are the same as Germans, and progs (whether they admit it or not) consider Asians honorary whites
Not to mention hollywood is degenerate so even kinomancers like Tarantino have weird blacked fetishes or extreme white guilt
The United States is a Blackphilic country. This is the place that breaks into riots when the cops kill black career criminal junkies. Sometimes, they don't even have to kill them (see Jacob Blake) to provoke a riot. The news media then goes out of its way to defend and downplay these actions, even coming up with euphemisms ("civil unrest") in an attempt to cover things up. Any black who claims to be the victim of discrimination is given a national platform, even if the complaint is obviously untrue (Jussie, Bubba Wallace, Althea Bernstein, etc.). No other group in the United States gets this treatment.
"Diversity" and "representation" = more blacks makes sense with that in mind. Anyone whining about the lack of "black representation" in American media is at best a liar looking to get their friends work. They make up less than 13% of the country's population and are already vastly disproportionately represented in popular music and sports. If those people are not good enough role models, then that is a reflection of the black community that a couple of fictional blackwashed characters aren't going to fix.
(Baseball's limited popularity compared to far less diverse sports like basketball and football calls into question whether or not "diversity" is even a thing audiences demand.)
It's blacks over all the other nonwhite races in the US because the ones who control us literally worship ugliness and disorderliness. Blacks unfortunately hold the status as the most ugly and disorderly race in the US, and to add to that have a decent sob story to back up their bullshit. Thus we have to be subjected to ugliness in everything now
No, it means more black people, like that guy said. If it just meant less white people, they'd cast many other races than just black. But it's always blacks, which is why Black Panther, with its 90% black cast was described as one of the most diverse movies that year.
Latinos and Asians would watch any show or movie with white people because both groups have subgroups with fair skin and gave favorable opinions of white people in general.
But blacks won't watch media that isn't pandered to them because of they can't see themselves portrayed, it's not targeted at them. Not all, but that's how the average black thinks.
Which records did it break? Disney claimed Ahsoka did 14 million in five days. Loki S2 "did" 11 million in three days. They claim this hit 13.3 million in six days.
I read lightning thief in 3rd grade, did they really make Annabelle (beth? idr) black? In the first rendition of movies they fricked up her blonde hair lol
doesn't mean jack shit, streamers lie about their numbers all the time, like did you know netflix counts you as a viewer if you watched exactly 2 minutes of an entire show? yeah, they count you if you watched the first scene to check out whether you'd like it or not
Literally never heard of this. Why does everything fly under my radar nowdays? I spend at least a couple hours on Cinemaphile every day and just recently I found out there’s >A Godzilla tv show >good burger 2
I actually can’t think of anything else but you get the picture, where are you guys being advertised to?
The media has to be mostly brown for a reason and it's not what you think. It's creating a *future* narrative, not a current one. It's so that everything the elites did, are doing, and will do to shrink the population and enslave/control the rest will appear justified because everyone knows black and brown people can't govern themselves. Everyone knows women and gays are irrational.
They are using media to exaggerate how black/brown/female/gay this time in history was so that it looks plausible to their great, great grandchildren that "of course grandpa Bill Gates had to vax and sterilize billions. It was an act of love".
By this point we're just tired of seeing all the things we grew up with and enjoyed twisted and subverted to cater to a supposed modern audience that probably won't watch it anyway
Why can't right-wingers/conservatives just take losses? What's wrong with them? They're like psychopathic severely egotistical children. Everything they lose in is either a conspiracy, or some kind of cheating. They can never be wrong, nor can their ideas ever be unpopular as far as they're concerned. Do they think this kind of thinking/behavior will lead people to seeing them as sane, likable, and want to vote for them?
You assume everything who hates this kind of shit falls right in to the right wing brigade. I find them just as insufferable as the progressives making this content. Politics don't need to be a part of entertainment media. You wanna make content for blacks cool. Content for whites cool. Every piece of media doesn't need to cater to or appeal to every demographic possible. It's this needlessly changing of things simply for the sake of political correctness that piss me off more than anything. Just make content and let the public at large decide whether or not it's appropriate instead of making that decision for them
homie i'm sorry but you're not the majority. Just because billion dollar corporations push this shit doesn't mean people want it. Go talk to anyone who likes, idk, the witcher, what he thinks about the casting for triss, fringilla, etc and look at what they tell you. Even fricking redditors, the most adrent and unquestioning consoomers, were shitting on them and the showrunner.
This means it will be high quality and successful for a long time, like Seinfeld and friends.
Prepare for Percy Jackson basketball shoes and a Percy Jackson special edition buggati and for our new world government to be based on the spin off series

and then Rise of the Tomb Raider broke Uncharted's record
and then Spider-Man Miles Morales broke Uncharted's record
and then God of War broke Uncharted's record
and then Horizon: Zero Dawn broke Uncharted's record
and it got me thinking Uncharted must have a powerful fricking record if everybody broke it but it's still there
If anyone ever truly wonders how bad things can get, I invite you to look at the American comics industry, which now has over twenty years of being fricked into the dirt under its belt
Every series fails, everything flops, everyone is gay, everyone is black, everything new fails even harder, even gayer blue checkmarks are brought in to "correct course" and we're somehow decades into a death spiral where at this point literally 90% of comic sales are Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia, and the response from Marvel and DC's leadership is "clearly we aren't quite progressive enough yet"
seeing people post pages from modern comics is always fun. the industry basically only makes money from #1s at this point so they just let the writers do literally whatever they want as long as it features the characters the comic is allegedly about and isn't porn
My theory is the companies that own comic publishers figure they wouldn't be very profitable even if they made products that sold well. Comics are a really niche market despite all the self-professed comics nerds, 97% of whom really mean "I like to watch overstimulating movies." However, they can't kill off the comic book and continue the IPs as video games, animated shows, movies, etc. because even though the comics impact is miniscule now, it's important symbolically. It's like if Disney dropped Mickey Mouse. Sure, they've barely used him in anything in decades and no one really identifies themselves as a huge Mickey Mouse fan. But if Disney came out and said they were getting rid of Mickey entirely there'd be a huge outrage. So they're in a bind, they can't get rid of the comics divisions and they can't see a way to make them profitable enough. So they just dump all the diversity hires there and let them run wild.
As to the point about how manga does much better, there's no way for the comics industry to shift to do things how the manga industry does it. I don't know much about either industry, but the distribution model of manga is wildly different. They put out compilation magazines of dozens of series in a single issue (Shonen Jump is running 24 manga series right now!) and they allow cost saving measures like cheaper paper and black and white printing. Meanwhile, American comics are single issues, with glossy pages and full coloring. That probably contributes to how the industry is fundamentally unable to try to ape manga. The medium itself prevents them from having the luxury of trying out a few dozen new titles each year and seeing what works.
>diversity hire moron containment >irrelevant but "iconic" shit like Mickey Mouse
these are interesting points
>manga is different
this would have been a better argument a decade ago when it was just "The Japanese market is bigger than the American one", but the crazy thing about my only slightly hyperbolic "90% manga domination" statement is that at this point manga overwhelming dominates the "comic book" market WITHIN the fricking US (apparently the actual number is that Japanese titles are around 75% of US comic sales right now - and more painfully the US comic industry is somehow taking *credit* for success - https://www.businessinsider.com/whats-behind-surge-in-comic-sales-movies-kids-comics-manga-2022-7 )
My point about manga is that the differences in the business model (cheaper production, compilation magazine distribution, etc.) allow them to approach the creation of new IPs with more flexibility which allows the good stuff to take root and grow. Shonen Jump prints on tissue paper and only uses black and white, and when it introduces a new series that series can find its feet while mainstays like One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen can ensure sales are strong. And if the new series never finds its feet, then they can cycle them out more easily because it's less of a sunk cost. Meanwhile most American comics are sold as a single story in a ~30 page book priced at $5 each. If something starts slowly, it's a lot harder for it to gain traction since the sales numbers plummet so sharply. People don't want to spend $20 a month to read a story that won't get good until 4 months into its run.
Comics started believing they were going to be the ones doing storyboarding for future Hollywood projects, all fueled and motivated by woke. Basically, they'd be a govt contractor doing propaganda and compensated through the ESG / DEI schemes imposed by govt.
This was all put into action during the Obama years and got derailed by politics not going the way anyone expected.
When dc & marvel were independent companies they needed to actually sell books to stay in business, now they are both just tiny pieces of much much larger companies so they are basically just ip & idea farms now and selling comics is an afterthought
To be fair, comics just lost and will never recover because nobody even cares to look at them.
They could create a perfect rendition of Superman that appeals to everyone. And not a single person will give a frick because it’s comics and nobody gives a shit about Superman anymore.
Manga won. End of story.
Movies still have a chance to course correct because people still like movies and shows.
If someone actually created "a perfect rendition of Superman that appeals to everyone" it might go >Issue #1: 150,000 copies sold >Issue #2: 200,000 copies sold
etc.
Unlike all current comics which are always inevitably >Issue #1: 150,000 copies sold >Issue #2: 10,000 copies sold
homosexuality aside, it occurs to me that I've never seen a cover of Superman giving Lois a "I'm gonna frick your brains out" look like he's giving that twink
It was fricking amazing with the Greek lore scenes, blew the Daddario one out of the water.
>br-ack

I smell bullshit, just like when they claimed Ahsoka had 14 million viewers
This. They'll claim this nonsense every time... and then cancel it without a second season.
>Ahsoka had 14 million viewers
I don't know how good of a metric that is, but LEGO sets from Ahsoka are selling better than any other based off nuWars series did in their time. Which makes me believe it might in fact be quite popular.
They're just selling Rebels toys again
Embarrassing moron
Lego autists but every set out there in hopes it will become rare someday and they’ll make bank
>Checked out the premier
Notice the wording. Almost 14 million people clicked on the show to watch the first episode. How many finished it? How many watched the second?
“Checked out” doesn’t claim it was watched
But that's what they want you to think it means.
fricking this. also considering "im already paying for this service, so i can take a look at absolutely no cost/risk" is a lot different than going to the movies for something you're hesitant on. that fricking "rebel moon" shit is #1 on netflix and nobody likes it.
>when i'm proven wrong it's a conspiracy by da joooooooooz
today I will remind them
indisputably accurate
Article was updated to explain that premier numbers are misleading and Watchmen is currently on Max.
>we canceled our own #1 highest rated most popular show as a prank because we hate money
They said most popular new show. Also the reason was David Lindelof didn't want to continue and for whatever reason they decided not to replace him.
13 million is kind of low, what records were they breaking?
Best holiday streaming opening for.a Percy centric series or movie or whatever
Most streamed, counting only the first thirty seconds including the preview when left highlighted, from a holiday weekday in a year before a leap year on a day that is divisible by 2 after entering the age of Aquarius with Libya having a population greater than at least 6 million and on a full moon.
>checked out
Are they playing word games here? How many people actually watched it, beginning to end?
It's worse than that. I let the cursor hover on some Netflix show because I had to do something else. Trailer played for ten seconds before I got back to keep scrolling.
Later I went down the list and found a category "Because you checked out [show you stopped scrolling on]:" so the ign article is literally meaningless, which you should already know.
Tldr: 16M people turned on Netflix and were exposed to the trailer for the featured new show, no stats on how many actually chose to watch it.
what anon
said
They've been doing these bizarre semantic lies for quite awhile now.
Not annabeth. Not watching. Simple as. It could be 1:1 to the books or completly different.
And what does "checked out" mean, rabbi? Specifically.
The trailer was scrolled past, most likely. They call “impressions” (someone’s eyes were on it) “views” now.
I really don't care what is a success but Imagine believing any streaming numbers, especially from yidsney of all companies
>global release
>only 13mi views
lOL
Out of 8 fricking billions.
But damn I feel old. Just yesterday we were only 5 billions.
never heard of it, what makes it woke?
>this stupid ass trend has gone on so long that blackwashed adaptations are now getting even-more-blackwashed reboots
We are so getting canon nog Hermoine lmao
Hermione will be Indian. All the Weaslys will be black. The ginger genocide marches on.
That'd be too many Indians, Harry and Ron already have Indian dates to the dance who are recurring characters in the books and will thus get more screentime than in the movies in a series format.
Books are the white man's media.
You assume at some point they won't just start editing old novels to update the content. The ride never ends and there is no escape my friend
They did that with Pippi Longstocking a decade ago.
Rip The Blackking.
They can't edit a book you already own and literally every version of everything is available for free on the internet.
The literally altered the already owned digital editions of Dahl.
specifically it's the white/asian woman's media but i get what you're saying
Percy is such a downgrade, it's unreal.
That's reasonable. I guess I'm just tired of morons fricking up adaptations of things I grew up with.
>decribed in the book as "the stereotypical californian girl"
So the only incorrect adaptation is the one in the midle.
Really it's the first one. It's the traditional sense of the californian girl with fluffy blonde hair and an attitude
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ValleyGirl
It's one of those stock character archetypes that are used frequently in fiction
Things are gonna get real interesting by 2030. The entertainment industry is in a total tailspin right now and don't see this current trajectory being sustainable given how badly so much of this content is bring received by a sizeable portion of the potential audience
hollywood will be bailed out by the government the same way the banks were
if you don't willingly pay for the propaganda you will do so by force, they don't give a shit
>if you don't willingly pay for the propaganda you will do so by force
Well there's other options if that happens.
The government doesn't give a shit about Hollywood studios. It will bail out banks and let the studios die.
How big is that portion really? Is it just us or do other places or people really give that much of a shit? Anytime I complain about blacks taking over media my parents are the only one who ever agree and my friends(who used to say Black person all the time in high school and made racists jokes all the time) act like I’m a neo nazi
>inb4 “us”
There's gotta be way more than you think. I would have never considered myself racist but the constant media bombardment of the last few years has frankly broken me down psychologically. I have a massive case of Black fatigue and even seeing a black character by this point just makes me wanna avoid a piece of media altogether.
Basically this. I didn’t really even have any strong feelings towards blacks or stronk women until they started trying to make me like it
I wasn't a noticer until I couldn't help but see blacks in every single commercial and TV show, even in settings where it wouldn't make sense.
This companies would rather have someone watch a 10 second clip on tiktok than spend 1 hour watching the actual show
i've noticed that this is the same story for the music industry. the only people who really know of any pop songs are turbonormies, and there's basically zero bleed through of those songs into other media outside of those dogshit singing/talent shows. shit, you can look at the top 40 charting songs and the vast majority of them have been there for over 6 months
Even news media call Tom Cruise the last true "movie star", they don't cultivate new talent anymore, and they want to just use AI and CG to use their likenesses forever.
And besides nuTrek will just make up "firsts" anyway and treat their pet like she's the first black woman in Star Trek.
>treat their pet like she's the first black woman in Star Trek.
they actually treated her like she was the first black person in Star Trek
>I just miss the optimism. While humanity had its drama and downsides at the end of the day it was an ideal society that got past all the modern issues.
if anyone actually watched NuTrek they'd be furious about it making the Federation the same kind of dystopic cyberpunk shithole as all other modern science fiction
>old Star Trek : yeah we got past racism and have enough recourses to feed everyone forever
>nu Star Trek : ITS A HELLSCAPE EVERYONE IS EVIL AND A WHITE MALE FRICK YOU PICARD
the Federation's post-scarcity economy had to collapse because the robotic slaves based on Data's design underpinning it all revolted, even though they apparently had a post-scarcity economy before those slaves were built, and the very idea of building such slaves is both anathema to the morals of the Federation and physically prevented by the events of "Measure of a Man"
Both NuTrek and nuWars can't help but retcon the achievements of their own classic heroes.
>We made Picard's victory for android rights meaningless lol
>We made Luke and Han bitter old men lol
I can't wait for these studios to collapse under their own incompetence and poor decisions
>Different cultures have different values and we have to accept that not everyone thinks the same
>You must accept your flaws and try to use them to your advantage
>Even when you lose, don't get discouraged or give up.
Game of Thrones was basically the last tv show to have a lasting cultural impact. These streaming era series are just content to be consumed and quickly forgotten about. Star Trek ended with the Enterprise show and anything since then has been irrelevant slop
They literally suspended all other television programming in America for weeks to broadcast this and nobody watched it anyway
>assault
>only one who died was a protester
What did they mean by this?
No one watches broadcast TV except for sports and a dwindling cable news audience.
Damn. Makes me vaguely think of the dead internet theory. Endless TV being produced and floating around all these streaming services and yet no one will remember any of it because it has no substance.
The budgets are the craziest part
Apple puts $250 million a year into this show
“Go woke go broke” is over memed but genuinely these race swaps and other retcon nonsense are confusing and awkward to any average viewer.
In 2030 AI stuff might be good enough for fans to just make their own animations/movies.
damn even 2010 was pozzed
The woke shit started in the late 90’s and by tge late 2000’s it was becoming visible. 2010 was when all of these race and genderswaps started. 2013 was when it became unbearable and you started to see the line of “get-woke-go-broke” starting to be used.
We are a decade off from that and these studios still have not gone broke.
> We are a decade off from that and these studios still have not gone broke.
Paramount, Warner and Disney are just about broke. All three studios can reasonably be gobbled up by tech giants. But All those companies are also corrupted by the mind virus. So nobody is going to swoop in and return your favorite franchise to its glory days.
>reboot movie 2036
>all cast is black
Athena, the pure virgin god of virture has a black daughter.
You’re thinking Artemis
Athena is a bawd
>Artemis literally murders any man who wants to see her naked
Was she autistic
>13MILLION PEOPLE SAW FIRST EPISODE
>ok... how about episode 2?
Investors would abandon them immediately if they lied. Netflix even makes their watch-hours public on weekly basis, for example Rebel Moon was watched for 23 million hours last week, which would amount to around 10 million full views.
>Investors would abandon them immediately if they lied
They are abandoning Disney
>They are abandoning Disney
They were, which is why Disney has become more transparent regarding their reporting in the recent months. I am 100% convinced they will also release the stats to public soon to renew the investor trust.
they also have to legelly show the investors the numbers after the last strike, just like every other streaming service.
>for example Rebel Moon was watched for 23 million hours last week, which would amount to around 10 million full views.
Or around 150 million people starting it and then dropping it 10 minutes in.
Friendly reminder that digital analytics, unlike ticket sales, are propietary and any streaming service can categorize an interaction ("checked out", lol) as literally any unidimensional metric they want, down to people who watched the automatically playing teaser appearing on the front page.
>The first episode of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” brought in 13.3 million viewers in its first six days on Disney+ and Hulu.
>This number puts the series among the top five most-watched season premieres in all of 2023 on both streaming services. While the exact titles that make up the top five lists are unknown, both platforms released major titles this year
What an absurd statement that doesn't even try to make sense
>puts it in the top five most watched premier on disney+ and hulu for 2023
>no we don't know what the top five are though, but it's in there
wtf is this
>no we don't know what the top five are though, but it's in there
Disney has only started consistently reporting their numbers last month, the rest of the year is a mystery unironically.
Streaming numbers are completely unreliable. It’s a farce that they even try to cook this public numbers to try and show W’s.
>150 million subscribers
>13.3 viewers for the first episode
>less than 10% of their subs watched
>150m subs
>still loses money
When are we going back to cable?
how come none of the grifter channels made videos about this?
It's a kids franchise and not really a big name release
It's interesting to me that these box office numbers were considered disastrous enough for the studio to just pull the plug and go "Frick it, we're not doing the rest of the books, you're all fired"
It really makes a lot of "IT BROKE EVEN" shills for a lot of movies look like absolute morons
Well, and this may be a surprise to some of the younger zoomers here, but movies are supposed to make money
Movies were more profitable back then so a movie turning a modest profit meant the sequel would get shitcanned in favor of a movie that would likely turn a mega-profit. It wasn't enough to be profitable, it has to be the most profitable. Mega-profits are all but gone, so now a modest profit is enough to get a sequel.
well it was a big name release maybe a decade ago lol
>book author picked that black girl to play annabeth
chud bros.... our response?
>ruined the series on purpose so it would never overshadow his novel
Yeah, sure he did
“Percy Jackson” author Rick Riordan explained to Entertainment Weekly that making his franchise more diverse by casting Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase in the upcoming Disney+ series was always staying true to the reason he wrote the “Percy Jackson” books in the first place.
>I always meant for the books to be diverse
>I just sorta forgot to make anyone black while I was writing 'em
why does this happen to so many authors?
JK Rowling said she loved Black Hermoine and Twitter threw in her face all the excerpts she wrote about how pale Hermoine was
Oh i remember lmao, and now all the lefties she pandered to all her life threw her under the bus because of trannies. Deserved tbh
You either nod your head and agree with the identity politics brigade or they cancel you and ruin your career. It's easier just to roll with it if you wanna keep getting paid
It goes beyond that. Rowling is a literal billionaire. These people get addicted to the praise and adoration from their adult-children fan bases and are terrified of losing it.
at least she's anti-troon enough to die on that hill.
>W-well the Targaryens were famous womanizers, perhaps one Targaryen prince slept with a foreign barmaid and unknowingly sired a very beautiful and wise black girl with the gift of the dragons and-
>Make Winterfell black.
I mean for frick's sake the books have two different major plotlines about people discovering cheating wives because their kids have incorrect hair colors, how do you rationalize that with modern casting techniques where every medieval village has the demographic profile of the Bronx
The most baffling thing I've ever seen in a movie is Thor 3 when he literally talks about the blood of Asgard being more valuable than its soil while surrounded by white, black and chinese Asgardians
Asgard is an idea. Anyone can be Asgardian. Dark Elves used to live in Asgard so nobody is an Asgardian.
Why is that baffling? A good king cares about all his subjects.
>Make Winterfell black
Have they actually announced this by means of cast members, or is it just hypothesis?
the canceled prequel pilot that never saw the light of day even after being filmed for $30 million had this cast and was set during the building of The Wall in the North
Is she a dragonseed, or did she find another way to bond with a dragon without Valyrian blood, that could give us clues into what might have happened with Quentyn if he's still alive?
yeah and Hollywood accidentally did a huge racism by basically making the story "there used to be black people in Westeros and they all got turned into the white walkers"
Rowling obviously based Hermione on herself
>The quiet, book smart girl with perfect morality who always had the answer the plot needed
>"er Mr. Shekelberg I actually wrote Annabeth to be a white bl-
>fired from his consulting role, labeled a racist white supremacist on twitter, loses the rights to his books in civil court
It will never stop being funny to me that the most faithfull adaptation os his books are likely the fricking theatre musical
he did, Riordan is full on the woke pill for years now, sure Disney might have implied to have it but make no mistake, he is totally on board with it
At first the dude said it was because disney literally demands it, then he ~~*suddenly and inexplicably*~~ changed his tune and said she was the best person for the role.
Could have picked a cuter one, RJ.
The true tolkien style autists wouldn't sell their rights to pieces of shit like netflix.
i retroactively don't like his writing
he's a hack
He did. The israelites didn't force him. He made Nico gay and then Piper a lesbian and killed off Aryan Jason.
Lmao
Now point to a month Disney+ made money.
great! should help with the half a billion dollars Disney has lost in the last month
>Main protagonist is a white guy
Your point?
Who's the main protagonist again? The black chick is standing front and center with him
>13 million accidentally clicked on it because it was promoted on the home page and their android tv was lagging
>13.3 million viewers checked out
>checked out
ok, so how many of those 13.3 million viewers actually watched the entire episode?
>checked out
Not a great phrase to use. Sounds like 13.3 million people clicked on it, watched five minutes and turned it off.
That's because it's exactly what happened
>13.3 million gay hebephiles watched the first episode for Walker Scobell
Checked.
Thus we have to be subjected to ugliness in everything now
>"Representation" to libshitz means LESS or LESSER white people.
No, it means more black people, like that guy said. If it just meant less white people, they'd cast many other races than just black. But it's always blacks, which is why Black Panther, with its 90% black cast was described as one of the most diverse movies that year.
Diversity is just a way to push atomization by shining a light on the ugliest and obnoxious. It’s an exercise in demoralization.
I give things less than 20 years before hispanics are told they are white supremacists.
East Asians are already white supremacists
Latinos and Asians would watch any show or movie with white people because both groups have subgroups with fair skin and gave favorable opinions of white people in general.
But blacks won't watch media that isn't pandered to them because of they can't see themselves portrayed, it's not targeted at them. Not all, but that's how the average black thinks.
because blacks are the golem of the israelites
Which records did it break? Disney claimed Ahsoka did 14 million in five days. Loki S2 "did" 11 million in three days. They claim this hit 13.3 million in six days.
Call me contrarian, but the way people kept sucking off these books felt fishy to me.
A lot of people probably grew up with them, like I did, and remember them fondly.
I know it's casting couch, but can they at least get someone who can act for the lead?
Predict the viewership falloff. There's no way having an ugly bantu as one of the main characters will keep people interested.
>black bois tuning in in the millions to watch bleached kino
>this is somehow a victory for the black race
I read lightning thief in 3rd grade, did they really make Annabelle (beth? idr) black? In the first rendition of movies they fricked up her blonde hair lol
doesn't mean jack shit, streamers lie about their numbers all the time, like did you know netflix counts you as a viewer if you watched exactly 2 minutes of an entire show? yeah, they count you if you watched the first scene to check out whether you'd like it or not
Literally never heard of this. Why does everything fly under my radar nowdays? I spend at least a couple hours on Cinemaphile every day and just recently I found out there’s
>A Godzilla tv show
>good burger 2
It was an act of love".
>step 1: put a gay chick in it
>step 2: make her gay and lame
>step 3: ???
>step 4: PROFIT
There are still millions of things you dopes can watch that have straight white males. You're not under attack. Grow up.
>no one mentions it, but i'll still deny it
Do you still get paid if you don't actually reply to anything?
By this point we're just tired of seeing all the things we grew up with and enjoyed twisted and subverted to cater to a supposed modern audience that probably won't watch it anyway
Why did they have to frick with Goosebumps..
Excellent satire.
This will never be your site. Go back.
YIKES why do rightoids hate freedom of speech and like/want echo-chambers so much?
"Go back, I need my safe space!"
Do you guys unironically watch content clearly targeting kids/teens with adults expectations?
>the amount of cope in this thread
Chuds simply can't take an L, huh.
Just make content and let the public at large decide whether or not it's appropriate instead of making that decision for them
>I'm not racist but *numerous racist talking points*
chud moment
>but *numerous racist talking points*
Like?
Just because something is a "talking point" doesn't mean it's wrong. Besides, what's wrong with being "racist"?
homie i'm sorry but you're not the majority. Just because billion dollar corporations push this shit doesn't mean people want it. Go talk to anyone who likes, idk, the witcher, what he thinks about the casting for triss, fringilla, etc and look at what they tell you. Even fricking redditors, the most adrent and unquestioning consoomers, were shitting on them and the showrunner.
why don't you homosexuals actually watch it? I watched the first two and it was meh. Okay, for what it is. It's like harry pottah if you're into that
This means it will be high quality and successful for a long time, like Seinfeld and friends.
Prepare for Percy Jackson basketball shoes and a Percy Jackson special edition buggati and for our new world government to be based on the spin off series

>Believing what any streaming company says when some "new record" is broken every time they screen a new show and they won't reveal their full streaming audience numbers
/v/ermin here
I distinctly remember when Sony announced The Last of Us broke Uncharted's record
and then Rise of the Tomb Raider broke Uncharted's record
and then Spider-Man Miles Morales broke Uncharted's record
and then God of War broke Uncharted's record
and then Horizon: Zero Dawn broke Uncharted's record
and it got me thinking Uncharted must have a powerful fricking record if everybody broke it but it's still there

Watching a few minutes of something is the new cope to justify it as a success?
Lol
But is it good?
The medium itself prevents them from having the luxury of trying out a few dozen new titles each year and seeing what works.
>diversity hire moron containment
>irrelevant but "iconic" shit like Mickey Mouse
these are interesting points
>manga is different
this would have been a better argument a decade ago when it was just "The Japanese market is bigger than the American one", but the crazy thing about my only slightly hyperbolic "90% manga domination" statement is that at this point manga overwhelming dominates the "comic book" market WITHIN the fricking US (apparently the actual number is that Japanese titles are around 75% of US comic sales right now - and more painfully the US comic industry is somehow taking *credit* for success - https://www.businessinsider.com/whats-behind-surge-in-comic-sales-movies-kids-comics-manga-2022-7 )
If someone actually created "a perfect rendition of Superman that appeals to everyone" it might go
>Issue #1: 150,000 copies sold
>Issue #2: 200,000 copies sold
etc.
Unlike all current comics which are always inevitably
>Issue #1: 150,000 copies sold
>Issue #2: 10,000 copies sold
homosexuality aside, it occurs to me that I've never seen a cover of Superman giving Lois a "I'm gonna frick your brains out" look like he's giving that twink
Upon release, it's always "record breaking". Afterwards...
Percy kind acute tho

didn't Disney get outed as fudging their Disney+ numbers?
I watched until I seen too many Black folk. I think the 2nd or 3rd episode. they aren't even attractive Black folk just ugly ones.
Rebel Moon got nearly double and it's seen as a flop.
Christmas break gays watching moms disney+. Also 13 million is what some random youtuber pulls
How are the books themselves? Better than Harry Slopper or about the same quality?
I don't believe any of these "numbers" anymore, what reason would they have to not inflate them
The average episode of early Married with Children was doing better viewership
Disney+ is basically running on permanent loss. Everything released exclusively there is basically at loss by default.
