wait, what interracial relationship are you talking about here? None of the main characters are in any romantic relationship with one another or with anybody else in season 1.
Nami and Usop are in a relationship in the manga now? I remember reading like the first 100 or so chapters of OP many years ago and none of that happened, so it probably won't ever make it into the live action adaptation at all. If that is even a thing and you didn't just make it up.
It's a faithful adaption but those reviews are overrated. It suffers from the usual Netflix-isms where the world doesn't feel real and there's the cringe stench of mediocrity especially in the writing. The main reason I suspect the rating is too high is because the goofiness is expected so reviewers are turning a blind eye to the bad parts. If you can turn your brain off and get in the right mood it's worth a watch but it's not the kind of show you can recommend to your dad if that makes sense.
>the world doesn't feel real
If you watched the anime this wouldn't be a problem. The world is nonsense that you're not supposed to think much about. In fact the live action does a better job at world building than the anime.
That's not quite what I meant but I guess it's always going to be jarring when that gets adapted because that's common in anime but not in live action. What I more meant was that the viewer is going to be far more conscious they're watching a show with actors rather than embracing the fantasy. Small things like awkwardly inconsistently delivered lines, visible make up, props that don't look real, directing that feels a bit student-filmish. It's not extremely bad but it's enough to take you out of it
What is woke about this? 1 side character from a single episode is now black? Sorry this isn't enough to get upset about.
It's a decent adaption of a childrens TV show, better than the anime
The show is pretty good so far, but why the frick is child Luffy played by a black kid when the actor who plays him in the main role is clearly not black? This isn't even anything against muh black people, it's just really confusing and weird to see a character's younger and older self being played by 2 actors of completely different ethnicities.
I dunno, the kid Luffy actor looks totally black to me. Like a lighter skinned black for sure, but still 100% african facial features. Meanwhile adult Luffy is played by a man with clearly caucasian facial features and skin tone. Just because they are both from latin America means nothing, in Columbia has plenty of people who look white and plenty of black people and everything in between.
The first episode of this show has the male protagonist punching a fat woman in the face.
The star of the show is literally a troony (female to male)
lie
She wasn’t fat enough
Show is ruined

Cowboy bebop had similar reviews when it came out. It wprthed jackshit

Still to high
>Americans see interracial relationship in a tv show or movie
>Instantly give it the highest of praises and scores of 101%
what causes this?
It's a cultural thing?
Journos and critics are disproportionately progressives.

none in manga, but subtle hint in netflix
Oh I see, you made it up.
Yeah he did. They held hands when they were worried about Zoro who they thought was about to be killed by Mihawk. That's it
Ehh, I could see it going either way.

They don't look they different from each other. One is Colombian and the other is Brazilian. They are both South American mutts
