You have to pay theaters to show your movie. When no one goes to see it, not only do they lose money, but they end up with way worse publicity than if they had just left it alone.
Disney tends to command much tougher deals with theaters, taking more of the first weekend gross, because for the last decade MCU films were surefire money-makers. They could use the Marvel films as a bully stick for deals in other sectors.
But this re-issuing is unusual enough that I'm curious what the split must be like, because it's not like these movies will have legs. They're already available on Disney+, and lots of families might even own a disc copy for long car rides. After a string of flops, theaters won't be keen to offer a big cut of the opening weekend when that might all it gets, since you'll get the novelty crowd right away and then nobody else. It's why, for example, when Die Hard gets reissued as a novelty at Christmastime, a theater usually runs it for one or two nights max.
Like what [...] said, you have to pay to be in theatures, which you have to make a deal about how much you make per ticket and for what weeks. Since this is old, they probably cannot make good of a deal to get a big percentage. For families, if they have an option to stay at home to watch, they will over an old movie that is more expensive.
>Like what said,
The level of stupid here is astonishing.
But what is the point since everybody saw them pirated and on disney+ already?
Movies get re-released in theaters all the time, son.
And it's now new, entire theaters exists that JUST show older movies.
SHOCKING, I KNOW.
What’s this? I thought it was just splits on the ticket money. If a film isn’t doing well, the theater cycles it out faster for something else
They have no clue what they are talking about, just ignore them. Theaters are not going to show movies whether they get 'paid' or not if they do not think it's worth turning on the electric and paying people to show the film, clean the theater and be at the concession stand.

Theaters are hurting for product depending on the month and how many screens they have. All theater chains do those $5 fan favorites, but not every theater has them, not every show time or even every day shows those kinds of shows, but theaters do like them and so do some consumers.
I just went to see a recent movie in the afternoon on a discount Tuesday, mid-afternoon, of a Regal theater with 10+ auditoriums. Only two people besides me were in the theater and the fullest theaters were showing the Godzilla movie and the Mizayaki movie and both of those had less than 50 seats busy.

Why are you against it? Seems like a harmless business tactic.
>But what is the point since everybody saw them pirated and on disney+ already?
My best guess is it's a chance to make more money off them since they didn't get an official theater release. They got put out at the height of Covid so they couldn't get any box office numbers.
Plus since they've already spent the money making the movie it's a lot less expensive than creating a new IP from scratch.
Soul was fine, abstract comedy drama with a musical focus, good fun.
Luca was dogshit and you’re failing to capture how bad it is, think “the little mermaid” but instead of painstaking hand-drawn animation, a literal “once in a century” good soundtrack, and charm oozing from every pore, it’s just phoned in 3D animated Italians without even the balls to lean into it and go full Moonstruck with the portrayal.

You’re right about turning red thoughz
Does anyone unironically like Turning Red or are you just being contrarian? The movie was ugly, failed to deliver it's message and every charactet was unlikeable.
>Does anyone unironically like Turning Red or are you just being contrarian?
Schizopedos with shit taste like it for the "horny little girls", but they are poorgays who pirated the movie, so isn't like they are of any help to Disney. I wouldn't be surprised if Turning Red becomes the lowest grossing movie of the 3. That crap is just awful.
Yup. People gave them way too much credit, thinking that management were a bunch of masterminds aiming to subvert and change the culture in their favor. Truth is, they were just a bunch of morons who got in through nepotism and unironically believe in the shit they’re peddling. And now they’re facing the consequences of their actions.
It kinda did but it honestly doesn't matter when their other movies and tv shows are burning money right now. Willow was a colossal frick up and took up so much advertising iirc.
Make you box office predictions. >how much will each movie earn >which movie will be the highest grossing one >which one(s) will be profitable (not counting money from D+) >which one(s) will flop again
My personal bet is Luca >>> Turning Red >>>>>>>> Soul in terms of box office numbers.
I go to see movies in theatres all the time when they're already available to pirate because I like the experience and I'm not poor
I probably wouldn't if the cinema were a glorious multicultural melting pot though
There's a reason re-releases rarely, if ever, come close to earning the figures that the original did and it's simply that most of the potential audience goes "been there, done that"
>There's a reason re-releases rarely, if ever, come close to earning the figures that the original
That's not the point. What fricking moron thinks that? Most rereleases aren't even in theaters for longer than a week.
If they release them at a slow time like January when there's nothing else out, they might get a few people to go. Everyone who wants to see them has probably already watched them online though.
We just paid full price to watch Tokyo Godfathers at the theater and will happily do it again next Christmas. The conspiracy theorist chucklefricks around here don't go on dates, don't have children, and never leave the basement, so they don't understand people going to the movies.
But what is the point since everybody saw them pirated and on disney+ already?
They might make more money? Or at least lose less than their last flops?
You have to pay theaters to show your movie. When no one goes to see it, not only do they lose money, but they end up with way worse publicity than if they had just left it alone.
Disney ain't paying no one. They just threaten to cut off their movies if you don't do as you're told.
As if they have the power to do that now when the majority of their output has failed.
Disney has been dropping bombs ever since Covid, I wouldn't even want their shit in my theater anymore.
What’s this? I thought it was just splits on the ticket money. If a film isn’t doing well, the theater cycles it out faster for something else

Distract you (and probably shareholders) from the massive failure of Wish.
Movies make a lot of money, and these movies are already completed in the can.
Strikes pushing everything back means that Disney has no new movies to show in theaters until the new Planet of the Apes movie in May.
testing the waters.
No, this is a good thing. 3 more flops for the list of disney's failures.
They're gonna flop and everyone will just say that it was already out so families had no reason to see it in theaters.
Exactly, it’s like they’re only releasing them out of desperation. These movies are old news so it makes no sense
lol nobody is going to watch Turning Red on theaters
soul - black guy and annoying person shit
luca - gay fish shit
turning red - furry girl getting 1st period shit (it was kinda ok)
You think? What about this pic?
>implying turning red appealed to furries
they watch shit like zootopia, not movies about humans
Soul - talking animal slop
Luca - talking animal slop
Turning Red - talking animal slop

Nevermind how it was just a Jake Long rip off.

Turkey loved watching it in theatres
you saying you're smarter than a turkey, sucker?
It’s another Morbius, but they don’t have the excuse of falling for a meme. They’re just straight up stupid.
That moment when you realize they're actually not evil. They're moronic.
Yup. People gave them way too much credit, thinking that management were a bunch of masterminds aiming to subvert and change the culture in their favor. Truth is, they were just a bunch of morons who got in through nepotism and unironically believe in the shit they’re peddling. And now they’re facing the consequences of their actions.
It's Morbin time. And strictly speaking one already got a limited theatrical release.
Y tho? people already saw it on disney+ or got the dvd/blu ray this seems pointless
Eh I'll probably go see my cute little gay fish boyfriend on the big screen
Imagine if fujos manage to save Luca from being a flop and future Disney/Pixar movies begin to show actual homoshota to pander to them.
Oh they are way ahead of you
I will probably watch Luca in theatres. If nothing else it's a very pretty movie. Plus as others have pointed out, cute homosexual shotas.
Man... Sequel of Luca 2 when?
What's the next movie Luca's creator is making? any clue?
Luca 2: Ercole get iPad
You joke but the first movie was literally about those morons trying to get a fricking Vespa.
lol. OP is a gay who secretly wants to watch Luca for the gay little boys.
Who will they blame when they bomb a second time?
Israel obviously
Streaming and pirating
Post yfw Turning Red gets its release ruined by the Russian invasion of Ukraine AGAIN
Gotta make up for Elemental, Strange World and Wish not making enough money for the mouse, ya know?
Didn't Elemental (barely) turn a profit thanks to Koreans liking it?
It kinda did but it honestly doesn't matter when their other movies and tv shows are burning money right now. Willow was a colossal frick up and took up so much advertising iirc.
>Muhh Elemental was a massive flop
Cope
let the games begin
Make you box office predictions.

All of them will flop because no one will go to fricking watch them in theaters when they can watch them on Disney+ or just straight up pirate them.
I go to see movies in theatres all the time when they're already available to pirate because I like the experience and I'm not poor
I probably wouldn't if the cinema were a glorious multicultural melting pot though
Yeah but you're not most people.
cont.
There's a reason re-releases rarely, if ever, come close to earning the figures that the original did and it's simply that most of the potential audience goes "been there, done that"
Plus re-releases only work for movies that are at least 10-15 years old, not 3. I get why they’re doing it but I don’t see them making much at all
>There's a reason re-releases rarely, if ever, come close to earning the figures that the original

>no one bats an eye
>Disney rereleases movies
>LoL ThEy DeSpErAtE

That's saying something, since taking a family to the cinema can be a $100+ night nowadays
Can't wait for Luca so I can watch Disney's most supreme gaybait on the big screen
I will become the Turning Red masturbator
It's Abby, isn't it?
