kotm's editing is so bad it's painful to watch, you're constantly switching between godzilla -> humans -> orca device interrupts everything -> repeat, as soon as something interesting is about to happen you can guarantee another scene is going to interrupt it, 2 hours of that is maddening
if not for the orca device it might've been bearable since now you have a plot device that's actively screwing up the tension in every scene, it turns on and everyone forgets what they were doing to look for the orca device, fricking horrible idea

it also helped make the tensions possible to begin with. godzilla dead on the floor about to be wiped out of existence by kg is only possible if u can stop kg at the last second, and the orca makes that possible. could u have done something else? of course, but people are always complaining that the humans dont do anything and here they are finally doing something and people complain anyway. i personally would have had EMPs drop on kg that dont affect godzilla because hes nuclear powered or something. but whatever im not that upset about it

it just causes more problems, you have humans in VTOL harrier jets flying TOWARDS ghidorah the entire movie, people zip around constantly and distance means nothing, ghidorah isn't a credible threat because the humans survive being between ghidorah's legs like 6 times when once shouldn't be survivable, it's just a thoughtless awful movie

do you mean the older films? i was mostly referring to legendary films in particular, but the issues still exist in the older godzilla era films as well, just not to the degree they do in legendary films because the technology better allows for things like jets constantly flying and different filming techniques thanks to cgi breaking the limitations we had with suitmation

It doesn't have as much Godzilla as some of the later movies but when he actually IS onscreen it's always a blast. I love the scene at the Golden Gate Bridge, too. Godzilla in 2014 really felt like a god, a deity, a force of nature that nobody could control and we were just lucky he was naturally doing something beneficial to us by killing the MUTOs.

It's been so annoying how Kong is the protagonist in marketed Godzilla movies. Although tbh I think the lore of the series already ruined Godzilla as a villain or anti-hero, and Kong is more relatable to most (moronic) people so I get why they've gone the direction they have. Their predecessors fricked it up from the start. I knew I hated the monsterverse the moment we saw Godzilla in the opening credits of 2014
Of the ones I’ve seen, G14 was the best, GxK is dumb fun. Unlike KOTM it never overstays its welcome with the human drama. In KOTM the writing is uniquely terrible even among Godzilla movies. Maybe I need a rewatch though.
