All anyone's going to be talking about is how stupid their movie is compared to Minus One. Their attempt at changing the narrative with the release of their trailer during the opening weekend of Minus One was some serious COPE AND SEETHE on their part.

The idea is less to convince people the Legendary version will be good and more to say 'you like Godzilla, here is more Godzilla'
It'll work also because there's nothing else on in 2024 over than capeshit and films nobody asked for.
"More Godzilla" doesn't cut it. It has to be GOOD Godzilla. Legendary hasn't made one worth a damn yet.
True, but they don't need it to be good, they just need to convince morons to watch it as a popcorn flick.
The main running scene for example of Kong and Godzilla is part of an Endgame style final battle scene where they are facing off against a bunch of monsters and Mothra swoops above them (Don't ask me how, Mothra is just back now)
I genuinely enjoy the monster scenes, though I agree that the human characters have all been shit, but that's largely the case in the Japanese movies too.
No it doesn't the other guy is right. People will turn out for non capeshit action
>here is more Godzilla'
That's the problem. It won't be. It'll be more side characters with Godzilla getting 5 minutes total screentime.
>more side characters with Godzilla getting 5 minutes total screentime
Shin Godzilla bros...
The only capeshit in 2024 is Deadpool 3. DC is going silent that year and Marvel delayed the rest of their slate
Don't care
watching both
>watching both
Me too but I'm only paying money to see Minus One. Legendary has burned me once too often.
Legendary is essentially making Hollywood versions of silly Showa era Godzilla movies. That's fine for some fun popcorn entertainment but when you have a legitimately excellent film like Minus Zero then everyone with gravitate towards that style instead of the goofy one
>Legendary is essentially making Hollywood versions of silly Showa era Godzilla movies.
Poorly with none of the soul and charm. This is the lamest cope to come out of this PR struggle session. Legendary is not Showa. It will never be Showa. It will always be goyslop for midwits.
I'm convinced people like you have never watched a showa film. Half of them are soulless with plots worse then KOTM or GvK. Plus so many reused scenes, being goofy is way less of a crime then tv thinks it is
>Half of them are soulless
lol. lmao even.
I will always believe that the characters in Steins Gate were partially inspired by this movie
>for years people write off vs. Gigan as a stupid stock footage movie with a dumb plot
>it's one of the most entertaining ones and the humans are actually likable
The only Showa film that borders on soullessness is probably Godzilla vs. Megalon since it was so low-effort, but even it has more charm than any of the crass, moronic shit Legendary has done.
FRICK OFF I LOVE VS MEGALON
>I'm convinced people like you have never watched a showa film. Half of them are soulless with plots worse then KOTM or GvK. Plus so many reused scenes, being goofy is way less of a crime then tv thinks it is
All the Ishiro Honda Showa films are SOVL personified, it's the ones directed by other directors like Jun Fukuda that are bottom-of-the-barrel trash for Japanese school kids on their Summer vacation.
>legitimately excellent film like Minus Zero
lol
lmao
Yeah, I'm a big fat Kaiju nerd, but I'm also a grown adult that likes proper films, too. G-1 is pretty good and fun for what it is, but "legitimately excellent film" is a bit of a stretch.
If Shin Godzilla didn't drag in the third act and didn't have the wannabe American president Japanese lady (although she was nice to look at), it would be much closer to legitimate excellency, imo.
I liked Godzilla Minus One, but I think I still prefer Shin.
Neither are anywhere near the top. Shin is too anime-ish. Minus One is just a k-drama rehash of the original 50's movie, including some shot for shot remake scenes. Shin gets some credit for having a truly bizarre and unique Godzilla design, but isn't a great movie. Both are ultimately quite boring.
the engrish speaking lady in shin totally ruins it, such a shame
the movie is really great up to that point since the anime-ness is obscured by the realism aesthetic
without her shin is peak contemporary godzilla
I think minus one keeps its tone better overall without dipping into anime shlock but other than the period setting isn't as fresh or striking as shin
it's just good
easily the best movie of the year so far.
It wasn't. Not even close. It was less than mediocre.
>Legendary is essentially making Hollywood versions of silly Showa era Godzilla movies.
Legendary is "essentially" making jack shit. Stop comparing this israeli capeslop to the Showa era. They're not the same. And I'm not saying the Showa era is some kind of cinematic triumph or any of that shit. But it was unironically SOULFUL compared to whatever horseshit Legendary is pinching out.
The Legendary Godzilla/Kong movies are fricking awful and you would have to be a massive moron to think otherwise.
>CGI garbage with videogame action scenes
I knew nips have no soul, but I didn't think they were sellouts.
Really good and yet making way less money. tomorrow is its final day in US theaters. Legendary still wins because and stay with me here weebs, movies are a business. That's the point. It's not to make you morons happy who will just pirate it anyway.
>tomorrow is its final day in US theaters
Don't tell him.
What that it got extended like an anime movie? How about nobody tell you it could be open for 8 more months and STILL make less than the legendary movie. Kick and scream all you want.
>It's not to make you morons happy who will just pirate it anyway.
I am personally responsible for 8 ticket sales for Minus One. I have never paid a single penny to watch a legendary movie.
>paying for movie tickets
Found the moron
A movie making a billion isn't the only way it can be a success.
And its profit is not the only thing upon which art and entertainment is judged. Avatar made billions but no one ever talks about it (besides the fanboys on the occasional thread here), conventions and nerd events are completely devoid of Avatar cosplay or fanart. Fast & Furious makes bank but only trailer trash and urban Mexicans give a frick about that drivel. Dozens of films that are considered classics and/or masterpieces didn't do well on release.
I don't understand the divide. I can like all the godzilla movies. Serious ones, dumb ones, goofy ones. They aren't in competition with each other.
The only godziilla movie it's OK to hate is the 1998 one with Matthew Broderick
>I can like all the godzilla movies.
I can only like the ones I like. I don't like monsterverse. I also don't like Son of Godzilla.
It’s just weeaboos who hate everything non-japanese, also most definitely thirdworlder ESLs
98 was an abomination, but at least it was still a Godzilla story, albeit a loose one. This current version is just Marvel. That's it. It's Marvel. There's nothing Godzilla about it
godzilla is scaring all of hollywood, it exposed them all
Who is it scaring if it's making way less money than the legendary release?
But way more revenue, israelite.
I don't know about Legendary, but I'm sure it's a nightmare for some people on Cinemaphile.
No. Most people on Cinemaphile are sucking the movie's dick. It's a nightmare when they learn the movie is making less money.
>It's a nightmare when they learn the movie is making less money.
It's making mad bank. It's a smash hit. There's literally nothing to be mad about except Legendary trying to steal its' thunder by dropping a commercial for their soulless trash on opening weekend.
my take
Godzilla is the theme of the movies. Typifying human issues such as war, bureaucracy, pollution, familial trouble, being fricking bullied in elementary school. Amerimutts are unable to make a solid movie on anything human since they have lost their own humanity to slop.
The whole "titan" bs is only a step away from the roland emmerich garbage. A shallow interpretation. Only amerimutts would disagree. I am vindicated with the success of Godzilla Minus One and the failure that will be Godzilla x Kong
I'm going to watch both but I really doubt that the Kong × Godzilla film will reach the same artistic heights that Minus One does. One is a popcorn flick and the other is a action-drama. Godzilla is great enough to be both.
I think it was more an attempt at marketing synergy, to use the momentum of one franchise product for other franchise products. But yes the juxaposition of the two does expose the creative bankruptcy of American film making. An American Godzilla can't work because America is a invunverable Godzilla bestriding the world, America won its wars and killed the monsters who threatened her. An American Godzilla film has to be about the American experience of being the Godzilla rampaging across the planet. Make the rest of the world other monsters or people as you see fit.
>America is a invunverable Godzilla bestriding the world, America won its wars and killed the monsters who threatened her.
100% of that is untrue though. I don't wanna go all /misc/ in here though.
Yes, this is obvious to anyone who isn't a conspiracy theorist weeb. When you watch a movie with an actor comes out, it's very likely another trailer for a movie with that actor will come with the movie or within days of the movie.
Licensing fees for Godzilla in Legendary/Monsterverse movies will pay off ANOTHER Toho Godzilla movie. Mutually beneficial.
Great movie. Really what the franchise needed.
We're living through a wonderful decade that produced two excellent Godzilla movies.
Five excellent Godzilla movies with a sixth on the way.
Legendary monsterverse is based on the later reiterations of Godzilla that's less force of nature and more force of will.
