I liked the human plot. The kinda slice-of-life quality with these very normal people in between the monster attacks. Thought the characters in Raids Again were more memorable than the generic archetypes used in a lot of the later Showa and Heisei movies.
Only thing I don't like about Raids Again is some of the pacing towards the end, but it's not like it's the only Goji film with pacing issues.

Back in those days it was common studio practice to capitalize on the popularity of a successful movie with a rushed, low-budget sequel. It's not a good movie, but Anguirus is a good monster.

They're not doing nearly the same thing as Marvel though. Marvel would introduce characters and major plot elements in small parts of their other projects, it's obnoxious to watch because if you don't watch every movie and tv show you won't understand what's going on. The Monsterverse doesn't do that, there's only a single line of films to follow that starts with Godzilla 2014 and is currently up to Godzilla vs Kong.
Including elements from the previous movies doesn't make it MCU, unless Heisei was also being MCU when they had Mechagodzilla be made out of Mecha-King Ghidorah and Mothra in space accidentally create SpaceGodzilla. It's just continuity.

KKvG is actually funny, and it's also a very tongue-in-cheek satire of commercialism. The movie treats the fight like a corporate-sponsored wrestling match in a pretty unsubtle critique of Japan's growing commercialism. We're never getting anything with that thematic depth from the MV.
It's not just about sharpness of detail, it's about how they move. GxK looks too elastic and weightless. And Kong should not pump his arms side-to-side like a track sprinter, but rather like he did in previous films, like real gorillas do: like his arms are front legs.
There's a big difference between Showa-era soul and modern-day, capeshit-inspired CGI slop. Justifying the obvious shit-quality of the GxK trailer by pointing to Showa is like pointing to Batman '66 to defend The Flash (2022) or Josstice League (2017).
As a Showa and Heisei fan the GxK trailer looks more promising than the other Monsterverse movies. Looks like more monster action and less MCU-ness than the previous ones.

I've never found the MV to be overly quippy. I have an idea for a Godzilla film.
An evil scientist makes a one-use brain-swapping machine and uses it on himself and Godzilla, then starts destroying [CITY]. Godzilla is then in the body of the scientist, who is either extremely intelligent naturally, or there is a mistake and the brain-swapping only changes the personality and memories, so the Scientist-Godzilla is just a giant dumb monster who knows his goals, and Godzilla-Scientist is a genius who has all of Godzilla's memories. Godzilla-Scientist then has to quickly locate and repair MechaGodzilla and pilot it to fight and incapacitate Scientist-Godzilla and use the brain-swapping machine he also reworked to be usable again.

hesei godzilla is the perfect size for godzilla for me. showa's too short for modern buildings and legendary just feels too big. he could still meaningully interact with his enviornment at that size.

So the first couple and then everything after that is DOA. Like I said, long term this massive interconnected lore is a franchise killer. Godzilla has lasted this long because each entry is free to be its' own thing.

You can pick any Showa-era movie to watch at random and you'll be fine. There have only been five MV movies in ten years.
They're not doing nearly the same thing as Marvel though. Marvel would introduce characters and major plot elements in small parts of their other projects, it's obnoxious to watch because if you don't watch every movie and tv show you won't understand what's going on. The Monsterverse doesn't do that, there's only a single line of films to follow that starts with Godzilla 2014 and is currently up to Godzilla vs Kong.
Including elements from the previous movies doesn't make it MCU, unless Heisei was also being MCU when they had Mechagodzilla be made out of Mecha-King Ghidorah and Mothra in space accidentally create SpaceGodzilla. It's just continuity.

Literally the third movie in the series.
KKvG is actually funny, and it's also a very tongue-in-cheek satire of commercialism. The movie treats the fight like a corporate-sponsored wrestling match in a pretty unsubtle critique of Japan's growing commercialism. We're never getting anything with that thematic depth from the MV.
G2014 still has incredible CG. What are you even on about?
It's not just about sharpness of detail, it's about how they move. GxK looks too elastic and weightless. And Kong should not pump his arms side-to-side like a track sprinter, but rather like he did in previous films, like real gorillas do: like his arms are front legs.

I can't hate on the movie for doing something "new". And I by new I mean not capeshit or some lame historical piece.
There's a big difference between Showa-era soul and modern-day, capeshit-inspired CGI slop. Justifying the obvious shit-quality of the GxK trailer by pointing to Showa is like pointing to Batman '66 to defend The Flash (2022) or Josstice League (2017).
As a Showa and Heisei fan the GxK trailer looks more promising than the other Monsterverse movies. Looks like more monster action and less MCU-ness than the previous ones.
The Showa-era movies are very human heavy and by MCU-ness I mean an overreliance on lore and continuity (like going all in on the Hollow Earth, referencing the bloody handprint for SI, etc.)

I've never found the MV to be overly quippy. Yeah, there's some mediocre joking, but when I think of the real flaws in the MCU's humor I think of the constant need to poke fun at the source material ("So that just happened") or cut the tension with needless jokes. As far as I can remember, no one in the MV belittles the main conceits of the movies ("ZOMG Isn't it crazy that the big honkin' laser lizard is fighting a monkey?").
I have an idea for a Godzilla film.
An evil scientist makes a one-use brain-swapping machine and uses it on himself and Godzilla, then starts destroying [CITY]. Godzilla is then in the body of the scientist, who is either extremely intelligent naturally, or there is a mistake and the brain-swapping only changes the personality and memories, so the Scientist-Godzilla is just a giant dumb monster who knows his goals, and Godzilla-Scientist is a genius who has all of Godzilla's memories. Godzilla-Scientist then has to quickly locate and repair MechaGodzilla and pilot it to fight and incapacitate Scientist-Godzilla and use the brain-swapping machine he also reworked to be usable again.
