When the scripts were leaked onto /trash/ and I was finished combing thru them it suddenly dawned me why they introduced Olly.
Think about it. The show is called The Ghost and Molly McGee and that would mean Molly is the person who has to deal with any and all Ghost related problems. But when that becomes Olly's defining character trait it becomes clear that Olly exists to completely phase out the main character motivation and the literal pitch of the show
Its a bait and switch. Olly deals with the ghosts like hes fricking Danny Phantom meanwhile you can then write as many boring who gives a shit ep's of Molly doing normal shit like "Oh Andrea is having a Birthday Party thats nice."

I would have preferred that, and I think the intended audience would have preferred that too. The problem isn't "gay ghosts," it's "ghosts," period. When you look at threads here or on /trash/ or what people are talking about on Twitter or what people are drawing fan art of, it's almost all the girls. The ghosts just get in the way. It's hard to imagine an honest Hey Arnold-type show on Disney, particularly when they already have BCG, but if anything the endurance of BCG shows there's an audience for it. "Plus ghosts" isn't enough to redeem quirky girl #428817, and it just becomes a distraction when we actually like the characters and want to see more of them.

To be fair, when you end a season with a kid being stabbed, you can’t help associate ‘Amphibia’ with it.
The pacing and the ideas behind why they chose certain suggestions for Ep's. The main issue was how late into the Ep order they wanted to air these when you could unironically air them out of order, not be a fan of the series and watch them as if you were in the belief these were all from S1

My guess is either Disney didn't want it, or he's like other religious leftists who take an anti-evangelist mindset of "we Christians have the power, so we shouldn't shove our beliefs in front of others and allow other religions to speak." Or maybe he was afraid to be too vocal about it considering most of the other creative staff were likely non-Christian and he didn't want to be accused of bigotry or whatever. He's been in the industry for a long time so he know what flies and what won't.

Now that the series is over I finally sat down and decided to just comb thru S2 and it becomes aggressively apparently immediately when you get to the later Ep's of S2 that a lot of the content they were churning out felt like they brought in completely different writers who very clearly were not watching the show they were churning out scripts for
Lemee give you an example. A couple of days ago I rewatched all of S1. I was shocked to see how HALF of the storylines and screentime were entirely dedicated to Andrea where Andrea was either a significant character/antagonist as the Ep progressed or entire plot related elements dictated entirely on Andrea needing to solve that problem not realizing the grand scale of how much she helped Molly
S2 you notice how Andrea and Molly barely interact with one another. Molly will remember to come to Andrea's birthday. Andrea will even commit to a day of spending the night at Molly's house but HALF of S2's spotline is entirely Olly focused
You'd think they would have factored in how this shows only fanbase was for Andrea but she literally takes a back seat so Olly can eat up screentime. This becomes even stranger because from those scripts, LIBBY was gonna be the main focus going forward

That wouldn't have been possible. At least if you believe what BillBob were saying. They said the writing for season two was already finished before season one even began airing so they couldn't have changed anything in reaction to reception. Also half of season one focusing on Andrea is being wildly generous. At most about eight or so segments could be said to have something to do with her. And that's counting everything from focusing on her to just her appearing once in the segment. In a series with twenty episodes breaking down to forty segments in it's first season, that's less than a quarter of them involving her.

Literally all Andrea did was prevent a larger crisis from happening at the expense of her fathers company. The fact that Davenports tanks itself because of Andrea wanting to rediscover herself and not because her father is an selfish profit driven butthole completely misses the point of why Davenports has been destroying the town
Its the perfect feedback loop. Ghosts crave inhospitable environments. Davenports from how its managed creates a inhospitable environment and since Andrea at the beginning had rose tinted glasses and needed Molly to show her how awful her father was you can then lean into everything else
Andrea is a big part of her fathers company but the fact that Davenports needs her for it to function at all is ridiculous

In Molly's case it was making it seem they wanted to do more "bonding" ep's with Andrea and her family. They have maybe 2 wholesome moments together but early into S2 they completely disappear
You bring in these expensive VA's to voice them and they go thru maybe 2 dozen soundbites worth of dialogue but the worst example was Andrea's mom. 1 sentence. For 2 seasons.

When you think of TGAMM's "becoming a ghost in the Ghost World" as symbolic of an unfulfilled life, which was apparently the ultimate intent, it makes more sense.
Then how come when Harriet and Sonia fulfill their unfinished business and fade away they just show up in the ghost world later with the implication that that is the true afterlife?
Because of the Chairman. When Scratch was following orders he was not cued in as to why he needed to bring in human misery to the Ghost Dimension. The Chairman simply fed on it
See Scratch becoming the Chairman does away with this concept the same way how when houses were powered by fear in Monsters Inc and with laughter instead, the council lacked any purpose under Scratch's new regime
The issue is Scratch is lazy and bad at his job. You just know the idea would have been similar where Scratch would have preferred equality among ghosts and humans to live in synchronicity but that was clearly not possible

That initial season 2 drop was actually something of a dead cat bounce for this show I think. It really fooled us into thinking they were going to build up the side characters. You got the Molly/Libby/Andrea friendship trio being officialized, and Abby became something of a breakout character in the dance episode.......
The next episode to drop? The a bottle episode where they took a cool ghost design and ruined it, and the gay ghost orgy party.
The next after that? The Halloween special where every "costume" was just a recycled asset.
After that? VHS joke episode, and wypipo don't season dey food episode.
May of 2023 is when MollyCoin officially crashed and the fanbase got rugged.

This type of behavior (i.e. self-pity) is enabled by American society in some way I can't pinpoint because I don't live there and I've never had, but I see it all the time coming from non-whites living in America, while the non-whites in my coutry rarely even talk about such things, except when it is clear that they have been in touch with American culture through social media or visits there.
I wonder if any of the season 3 scripts were ever sent to Disney for preview and rough approval. The whole idea of ghosts moving on to some sort of Heaven, Hell, or great nothingness beyond the cartoony Ghost World of the show's own mythology would seem to be a bit heavier than I'd expect them approve. Sure they have the israeli celebration episodes, but even those are more based around presenting the history and understanding of the associated beliefs as opposed to an endorsement of a particular religion being correct with regard to the true afterlife.
Honestly I think one of the big things holding back this show is the setting. Mollys whole goal in the show is basically to "enhappify" brighton, yet it doesn't really seem like it's really in need of it. The town isn't depressing/scary enough to really make molly pop and contrast it. If they leaned more into the horror/spooky side instead of kind of just making it a normal town I think it would of been better, kind of like making fiends or something. I say this as a fan of the show, especially the animation

The halloween episode was the biggest limp dick example of this, just a shitty Mollie love plot and Billbob's avatar ghosts feeling up kids in a tent. Maybe Disney had put a hard cap on how scary they could get, but... was anything on this show as spooky as say, some of the stuff from Gravity Falls? Crazy that the hacklet whined so much about censorship because nobody has gotten away with shit like blood flowing from eyes or teeth getting ripped out.
Remember some schizo was here a while back calling TGAMM a Beetlejuice ripoff. Man I wish they had ripped off more from that cartoon, both the underworld and Lydia's hometown had a far spooky and unsettling aspect to it than TGAMM's ghosts. About the only thing the show did right ghost wise was the scary faces scenes.
I thought the aesthetic for the ghost world itself looked pretty cool, even if all the ideas they had for it after Season 1 ranged from boring to terrible.
Howlin Harriet was a pretty good example of spookiness from the show. It didn't really bother me that it didn't lean harder into misery and scares, but I do see where some could've wanted more. It's hard to imagine an honest Hey Arnold-type show on Disney, particularly when they already have BCG, but if anything the endurance of BCG shows there's an audience for it. "Plus ghosts" isn't enough to redeem quirky girl #428817, and it just becomes a distraction when we actually like the characters and want to see more of them.

Now that the series is over I finally sat down and decided to just comb thru S2 and it becomes aggressively apparently immediately when you get to the later Ep's of S2 that a lot of the content they were churning out felt like they brought in completely different writers who very clearly were not watching the show they were churning out scripts for
Lemee give you an example. A couple of days ago I rewatched all of S1. I was shocked to see how HALF of the storylines and screentime were entirely dedicated to Andrea where Andrea was either a significant character/antagonist as the Ep progressed or entire plot related elements dictated entirely on Andrea needing to solve that problem not realizing the grand scale of how much she helped Molly
S2 you notice how Andrea and Molly barely interact with one another. Molly will remember to come to Andrea's birthday. Andrea will even commit to a day of spending the night at Molly's house but HALF of S2's spotline is entirely Olly focused
You'd think they would have factored in how this shows only fanbase was for Andrea but she literally takes a back seat so Olly can eat up screentime. This becomes even stranger because from those scripts, LIBBY was gonna be the main focus going forward
So Libby and Olly were getting more screentime then Andrea even tho Andrea was literally the central focus of S1. Something clearly went wrong here there had to have been people writing this show angry how people were liking Andrea "the wrong way" so they omitted her screentime and were gonna do it again for S3

That wouldn't have been possible. At least if you believe what BillBob were saying. They said the writing for season two was already finished before season one even began airing so they couldn't have changed anything in reaction to reception. Also half of season one focusing on Andrea is being wildly generous. At most about eight or so segments could be said to have something to do with her. And that's counting everything from focusing on her to just her appearing once in the segment. In a series with twenty episodes breaking down to forty segments in it's first season, that's less than a quarter of them involving her.

I wonder if any of the season 3 scripts were ever sent to Disney for preview and rough approval. The whole idea of ghosts moving on to some sort of Heaven, Hell, or great nothingness beyond the cartoony Ghost World of the show's own mythology would seem to be a bit heavier than I'd expect them approve. Sure they have the israeli celebration episodes, but even those are more based around presenting the history and understanding of the associated beliefs as opposed to an endorsement of a particular religion being correct with regard to the true afterlife.
Honestly I think one of the big things holding back this show is the setting. Mollys whole goal in the show is basically to "enhappify" brighton, yet it doesn't really seem like it's really in need of it. The town isn't depressing/scary enough to really make molly pop and contrast it. If they leaned more into the horror/spooky side instead of kind of just making it a normal town I think it would of been better, kind of like making fiends or something. I say this as a fan of the show, especially the animation

Maybe Disney had put a hard cap on how scary they could get, but... was anything on this show as spooky as say, some of the stuff from Gravity Falls? Crazy that the hacklet whined so much about censorship because nobody has gotten away with shit like blood flowing from eyes or teeth getting ripped out.
Remember some schizo was here a while back calling TGAMM a Beetlejuice ripoff. Man I wish they had ripped off more from that cartoon, both the underworld and Lydia's hometown had a far spooky and unsettling aspect to it than TGAMM's ghosts. About the only thing the show did right ghost wise was the scary faces scenes.
I thought the aesthetic for the ghost world itself looked pretty cool, even if all the ideas they had for it after Season 1 ranged from boring to terrible.
Howlin Harriet was a pretty good example of spookiness from the show. It didn't really bother me that it didn't lean harder into misery and scares, but I do see where some could've wanted more. Maybe they were afraid that doing so could've earned it a reputation as a spooky cartoon, something they presumably wanted to avoid (that said, they do have a decent amount of morbid humor, like the regular bird deaths, Scratch desperately trying to shive Goldie's soul back into her body, the cheerful song about Scratch's hypothetical death, Web of Lies in general)
