When I liked this show 10 years ago, it was mainly because Dylan Moran made me feel like my alcohol consumption problem was making me more poetic and whimsical.
I actually saw the guy do standup. Surprisingly, he was actually good. TV types rarely make it work on stage. That dude who played the Edge boy in Mighty Boosh is a perfect example. Holy shit that guy stunk.
>TV types rarely make it work on stage
That's because Moran is a stage type who made it work on TV, both him and Bill Bailey have way more experience in stand-up than scripted shows
That checks out. Bailey is an absolute stage legend. His music shtick gets better every time you watch it.
Exampli grantia:
Withnail & I is the classic for this. Looking back there is something genuinely 'tortured soul' about drinking yourself to death, it's just not as kitsch that active alkies would like to believe.
problem is fictional alcoholics never have bloated faces or edema guts or skinny myopathic arms and legs. also you can't smell them
What you're describing are death's door zombie alcoholics. Most alkies never go that far.
REG can't drink, he doesn't have the enzyme for breaking down alcohol or something. He based the character on his father who did in fact drink himself to death.
I would suck Tamsin Greig's cute lil dick. No homo. I'd have to be super drunk tho.
>dirty
I really can't think of any american shows even remotely as good as this.
>I intentionally watched a comedy show from a country I don’t like and now I am angry, how could this have happened?
Spaced is better.
Spaced insists on itself
it's the platonic ideal of a sitcom for fat women
having said that the outtakes are pretty funny

This is where i'm at. let me know if I should add anything
add Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Look Around You and The Peter Serafinowicz Show
delete Back, its shit
also Utopia is very good but it got cancelled on a cliffhanger so bad I don't recommend it to people
This guys right about Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
Is Look Around You any good if you don't remember Television For Schools and Colleges? Just wondering.
The League of Gentlemen is missing.
I would also try Drop The Dead Donkey and possibly Sean's Show.
Alles klar!
>Is Look Around You any good if you don't remember Television For Schools and Colleges?
yeah, it's great. some of it hasn't aged too well, but there's a lot of good stuff there
No I do remember them which is why I was wondering. What I saw of it was a fairly specific parody of stuff like Science All Around, ITV Schools "Experiment" and Science Workshop.
>Reddit discussion in my thread
Kindly frick off
The first season might be lost on you, it's a very direct parody of those shitty science class videos. The second season is very different, more like Tomorrow's World or some BBC 2 dogshit with Brian Cox
Utopia has the advantage of having come fricking true, anon.
What, murdering everyone that isn't Roma? When did that happen?
What, you don't remember?
Day Today, Brass Eye and Jam.
thanks, yeah everyone knows about dark place, idk just haven't got around to watching it
frick off
the whole thing is 3 hours long, lazy c**t
Green Wing.
for some reason Green Wing comes off as more dated than stuff that came out a decade before it. mid00s culture really was a cesspit
they went in a very different direction in series 2

Reddit
Some friends and I decided to watch most of Red Dwarf; it's shocking how quickly the quality nosedives at series 6; all the episodes in that series have the *exact* same formula, down to the *same* joke set-ups being placed at the *same* place in every episode. What the hell happened?
Dog shit show
Red Dwarf is one of the best TV comedies in the history of time and at a certain point you just run out of gas, you're demanding to see Father Christmas at Easter. Look at the Simpsons shamble on.
You're right series 6 definitely feels more rigidly formulaic than the ones before it, but it's still got some great episodes and it was the last time the show would ever be truly good
Maybe you two should get a room.
Maybe you should stop seething in a crumpet TV thread
>Nathan Barley
sums up charlie brookers entire career of failing upwards. Writing a show designed specifically to appeal to journalists and tv critics and absolutely nobody else is fricking malevolent
i hate nathan barley
Inbetweeners
A Bit Of Fry and Laurie
maybe Jeeves and Wooster while you're at it
Needs the classics.
'Allo 'Allo
Comic Strip Presents
George and Mildred.
Keeping Up Appearances
Are You Being Served
Also Benny Hill and Carry On, and whatever that show with Martin Clunes was where he played some 90s art yuppie. The Doc Martin guy. That was good.
Allo Allo might be the funniest show of all time in any language and it never overstayed its welcome. Every one of you ignorant young people who have yet to watch Allo Allo need to stop what you're doing and witness The Portrait of the Madonna with the Bog Boobies.
It was cut abruptly short when the guy who played Renee had a very serious car accident.
>t. Toomer
Allo Allo is one of the few I haven't tracked down on DVD yet but watched the shit out of on PBS. Great show.
Has anyone mentioned The Brittas Empire? Because that is a great '90s/'00s era series. Same vein as Fawlty Towers
>Monkey Dust
Incredibly dark animated sketch comedy
>15 Storey High
Sean Lock's (RIP) misanthropic sitcom
>A Touch of Cloth
Charlie Brooker's homage to Police Squad/Naked Gun style comedy
>People Like Us
Yes Chris Langham is a bit of a nonce but this is a really funny mockumentary.
and from radio:
>Blue Jam
The original version of Chris Morris's bizarre sketch show, I think the radio version is better as some of the weird and darker sketches got cut for the TV series (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwiA8C6oiJo)
>Down The Line
Spoof phone in show by some of the Fast Show guys that got numerous complaints from people who thought it was real.
>A Touch of Cloth
I love that this is still mentioned, there's a joke in every fricking frame of that show
yehh dat Stephen Fry is a bad man yo
>Oldman, take a look at my life...!
>I'M A LOT LIKE YOU WERE.
Fricking beautiful
Karen Gillan landing the last season was really good
watch Utopia immediately
Red Dwarf seasons 3,4,5 and 6 and peak kino.
Spaced is amazing
Father Ted is amazing
Black Books is okay enough to put on in the background and has some good parts, hate the woman though
Fran is fit as frick.
She looks like a mongoloid horse and tries too hard with her "personality", doesn't help that the actress is bad at acting
You would tho
I can promise you i wouldn't
Spaced is unfunny and extremely reddit
It's also le prequels are le bad! Gen X moronation.
This show is kino die
>le bookshop man no sell book! XD
KYS
You are objectively wrong.
>le heckin book man!
>le booze!
>le feck le heck!

And they all had lemonade.
I liked the summer heat episode where Bernard has a wine lollipop.
>le wine is best wine!
KYS
assmad homosexual
>le raaaaaargh! le huuuugh! le boooooks!
British comedy is European comedy, your burger comedy is Yiddish comedy
Jews are actually funny tho
I don't find this show funny, but I do find it extraordinarily comfy.

This. I only ever laughed at it when watching it while drunk. But, watching it drunk, it's lovely. Have you read Bogmail?
armstrong and miller had its moments
>le posh men saying not posh things!

wasn't referring to the RAF pilots
snobby and mean spirited, I'm glad their careers have gone nowhere
Full frontal Sarah Alexander definitely being one of them
Will's mum
Not liking black books unironically makes you gay.
She loves sucking wiener.
When I was in college I almost broke up with a girl because she made me watch this.
This is probably the only show with a laugh track that I actually find funny
Sex with Jen
Don't you think she looks a little bit like a man?
she's very cute, has a cute personality too from what I saw of her time on taskmaster
i love girls in t shirts lads
You are a man who pretends to be a woman. You will never be a woman.
I like it and I want to bang the alcoholic chick. She's so messed up she'll think I'm great just because I can consistently function without being drunk.
Women like her don't exist anymore.
Oh it's kino
Haven't read the thread yet, but if anyone else has recommended the DVD commentaries, I applaud your valiant efforts
TURN BACK THE GYPSY TIDES
for me it's The Day Today
That will definitely take you down the Alan Partridge route. There's a definitive collection to download via the AP subleddit.
the tagline on the cover is correct:
>british comedy at its best
this """comedy show""" is literally the peak of british humor and great evidence why britain should be allowed to fall into the sea
Go watch american comedy then. I'm sure there's some show kvetching about wypoeepo you can get invested in.
OP gobbles donkey dicks
