Same with Black Doctor Who. Fans have been campaigning for Patterson Joseph to get the part since before even the reboot happened because he was so good in Neverwhere, but the BBC evaded it at every turn (cast him in the very first story as a minor side character) until they could find someone who was an embodiment of the activist agenda, not just "some black guy who'd be good for the part".
ie: Anything acceptable to the "old, white" audience is verboten (anything they would consider a "race/gender/orientation-blind" choice).

Every project is getting pushed out, but this is the worst time for Blade to reboot everything. Marvel has completed projects looking for release dates. Ironheart got pushed out 2 years to 2025.
I don't think there's a future where Blade gets its shit together and gets made before Secret Wars (reboot) happens. And yeah, a 50 year actor with zero clout, that's a dead end. Blade doesn't even fit into the MCU right now.

I thought the nu-Blade script was about saving kids, basically a rip off of Dolph Lundgren's "Punisher". The best way to get people to like a character they've been raised to hate, is to have them save kids.
