I watched Yojimbo and liked it a lot but was kinda underwhelmed. I’m going to watch harakiri. Any more recommendations would be appreciated

Zatoichi series
some of the finest samurai movies come from this series.
Ran, 13 assassins both the old and new version
Harakiri is better than every Kurosawa film.
since you watched yojimbo and it's fresh in your memory, go with sanjuro next which is a sequel
then do all kurosawa samurai films starting with kagemusha and ran
agree
yes
>then do all kurosawa samurai films starting with the last ones he made which are based on shakespear
Why on earth? What? no. Don't do that jesus.
Watch them in the order they came out.
Sword of Doom
This
This
Sword of Doom.
Rashomon
Seven Samurai
Throne of Blood
The Hidden Fortress
Sanjurō
Kagemusha
Ran
I would just like to know why Kurosawa in the end chose samurai films over noir films.
Money, I'd imagine.
And he probably got cash from the Japanese government to finance his samurai films. No source, just guessiing.
>I would just like to know why Kurosawa in the end chose samurai films over noir films.
>Be Kurosawa
>Get internationally famous for doing samurai films
>Do more samurai films
Gee I wonder.
Rashomon is overrated.
He chose them because they fit better with his later style of overblown colorful landscapes, battle scenes, etc. Unfortunately that means they lack everything that's great about him.
This. I would have preferred a sequel to High and Low in the same way Kagemusha and Ran are sequels to Seven Samurai.
wolf and cub series is good fun.
Watch the Hanzo the Razor trilogy.
The Twilight Samurai
Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto
Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple
Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island
Lone Wolf & Cub series
Makai Tensho / Samurai Reincarnation
Twilight Samurai
The Zatoichi series
>Lone Wolf & Cub series
this
The last movie is terrible. The rest are really good though.
The last in the original series or the one that was released like 30+ years later? I know the last of the original wasn't directed by the dude that did most of them but I still find it hard to believe it will be terrible when the rest are all amazing
Whats really nuts is that 4 of the original 6 movies were all filmed in the same god damn year. Shit was kino af
>Makai Tensho / Samurai Reincarnation
This movie's fricking incredible, it's equally gothic horror as it is a samurai film. Sonny Chiba is the most bad-ass samurai/ninja ever.
do you think he ever did that thing with his arm inside his robe as a party trick or something? seems like it would be pretty funny to do when he's just talking to someone
