Hello Cinemaphilemrades.
I'm in a Greek Mythology mood, so I've been reading some GM based comic books. Can you recommend me what to read?
Here is what I've read so far.:
>Kill the Minotaur
An adaptation of Theseus's quest to slay the dinosaur. The gods are absent, and the titular minotaur is more of a slaher movie abomination. Supposedly a movie is happening.
I thought it was ok, if a bit underwhelming story-wise. I wasn't fond of turning Ariadne into this badass lady princess, but I'ts an okay entry level story.
>Asterios, the Minotaur
A one-shot comic of the Minotaur telling his story to Theseus, who he was meant to kill. A sympathetic POV of the monster.
I think this is mean to be a happier version of "The House of Asterion" from Borges. It's fine, but frankly not for me.
>Age of Bronze
An adaptation of the Illiad - or so it wants to be. It's more of an adaptation of the stories Before the Illiad.
It's a good companion piece if you're familiar with the Trojan Circles, but it depends a lot on you being already being familiar with it.
>Percy Jackson comic books
I just read these because I already read the books. They are fine, but some characters "look" better in the books like the Hecatoncheires.
>Wonder Woman: Hiketeia
I just thought it was worth mentioning.
I wonder why Age of Bronze has had these massive delays, is it even ongoing
I can't say, I'm just starting to read them.
I want to say it is because of all the research the staff has to do, but it's unlikely.
It's one guy who started in 1998
He's taken longer to finish than did the actual Trojan war
There's several adaptations of The Odyssey, most notably by Marvel Classics Comics. Might be hard to find in the original unrecolored version though if that's an issue.
That's a one-shot btw.
I'm interested. Who is the artist?
Jess Jodloman. I see they did one of the Iliad too. Artist for that is Yong Montano. Most all the other adaptations in the series were done by Filipino artists actually, including Alex Nino.
The webcomic Theseus is about Theseus working his way up to kill the minotaur. He's a stupid (but literate) klutz who is clearly being jerked around by the gods for their amusement to see how far they can push this scrawny idiot before it all falls over.
Bsides that it's very accurete to the original story.
I'll keep it in check, thanks comrade.
And the old Classics Illustrated version while I'm at it.
Questor published by Soleil.
I remember reading Kill the Minotaur for the art, none of the characters worked for me though. Ariadne was just one of many questionable choices made in trying to inject some sort of modern sensibility to the cast.
Anyway, it may be too cartoony/goofy than what you're looking for but Gastrophobia is worth at least checking out.
Yeah, the characters are too basic for my taste.
Herakles
Bacchus
Are you all really greeks?
We are westerns, does that count?
