Kyle's had some moments. I feel like "the more the merrier" with earth GLs.
I think I just coomed a little.
Earlier this year I read a good smattering of 90s DC, Emerald Twilight, Zero Hour, and then went through Morrison's JLA. It made me think Kyle was pretty cool and gave me disdain for seething Halgays.
>It made me think Kyle was pretty cool and gave me disdain for seething Halgays.
How you can you read all that and not think Hal returning was the best thing to happen to Kyle? Do you really want a return to the Winnick days?
No, but I like when it's just Kyle on the JLA and Hal making occasional cameos as Parallax. Has Kyle really been that significant post-Johns? I know he was Ion or something...
>Has Kyle really been that significant post-Johns? I know he was Ion or something...
Nobody but Hal and freaking John have been significant for the last few years. Hal makes sense, he's the main guy but they're really forcing John these days not realizing he's probably the weakest GL character wise.
Don't forget Guy Gardner, aka the Best Lantern
DC's writers probably hate him. Guy is the type of character who makes the Two Toms seethe.
they hate him, that's why he is the best lantern
Its because John was in the DCAU and he's who zoomies think of as Green Lantern.
>Its because John was in the DCAU and he's who zoomies think of as Green Lantern.
Pretty much another reason Bruce Timm and his ilk were a fricking mistake.
I am one of those zoomers.
After GL 2011, this is the show that set the GL back by presenting them as generic superheroes who shoot green lasers out of their ring.
I blame John in JL and the few smatterings of Hal with old man white temples but not Paralax yet that I read as a child, so I thought he was just an old guy, for why I didn't end up realizing how awesome GLs could be until I started reading the Morrison JLA tpbs my senior year in high school.
This! Can we finally realize Timm and his team of cucks ruined DC?
The Timmverse was a benefit only to Batman, and even then Timm couldn’t stop himself from ruining him too.
Why do GL gays seethe so much over the DCAU
Because it's the only reason why John Stewart has a fanbase and DC keeps pushing him down our throats despite Kyle and Guy being much better characters? Also because it's depiction of Green Lantern as a concept is incredibly shit.
It was more Dwayne McDuffie that was trying to push for John. Timm is a huge Halgay and probably would have put in his Hal-ified Kyle.
>It was more Dwayne McDuffie that was trying to push for John.
I doubt it because most of the time John is just there in the background. The romance with Sheyara felt like the writers realized that John had so little to himself, romance was knocking out two birds with one stone.
Anon you damn well DC would still shove John down our throats even if it weren't for the DCAU.
>Anon you damn well DC would still shove John down our throats even if it weren't for the DCAU.
They would have shoved Cyborg and Static Shock down our throats instead which is much preferable to John.
But they DID shove Cyborg down our throats for the longest while and not everyone liked it.
Static was never going to happen due to the issues with Milestone.
>But they DID shove Cyborg down our throats for the longest while and not everyone liked it.
Yeah, but it was manageable and DC backed down. Thanks to the Blue Beatle bombing, DC has lost the minority market, they will probably push John as their Black Panther.
It's weird since Blue Beetle was the most successful one of the late 00s minority push. Thy also made minority Atom, Dr Light, Firestorm and a few others but they all failed pretty quickly.
Because Hal got cucked out of it
I hated how incredibly lazy everything got about halfway through the Superman series. It's weird going back to the first couple seasons of BTAS and seeing how everyone has unique shapes, unique expressions, there was a huge amount of variety in the body designs among most of the cast the animation was fluid.
Then skip over to Superman and later JLA, all the bodies are boiled down to Guy, Slightly skinnier guy, and woman. Everyone is the exact same height, exact same build.
The DCAU was never good
John's character is irrelevant, I really hate to say it's just because he's black but that really is the main reason.
>I really hate to say it's just because he's black but that really is the main reason.
This is why Jo Mullein is the superior black GL.
I really hate to say the only reason she exists is because they wanted a bisexual woman of color GL, but that really is the main reason.
but Jess already had that spot
Jess isn't gay.
Hot
I hate this dudes art. Hair looks so oily.
That sounds more like a coloring issue.
Nah, all his work looks like that outside of DC.
…yet.
Jess is the anxious woman of color, and since Hispanics don't tend to b***h as much as Blacks about representation, we got Jo, who's also bisexual, so that's twice the diversity for the price of one character.
I know nothing about her, I just like her costume. I also have some Misc Manning art with her in it.
https://hypnohub.net/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=112997
My god
She some sort of black space Kamina?
I'm really not a fan of the hair. Pompadours look dumb.
Thoughts on Marz writing Kyle again?
Oh boy.
I wish Darryl Banks was doing the art too.
>Kyle backup by Marz
>Jess backup by Humphries
What are they cooking?
Kyle and Bleez will finally frick and Marry, and Jess is going to frick shit up to save the sector with Hal and John.
Exacty, John was Ben Reily to Hal, and they even murrdered his wife by chopping her to pieces thanks to a insane sickfrick carol ferris who was fricking everyone possessed by the real star sapphire.
>pic is after that happened
Pancakes, of course.
Probably a story that involves the larger Corps, or perhaps a GLC book with all the other Lanterns.
I miss Jess.
She's a bad guy now iirc right?
Nah, she just wore yellow during Thorne's run, but everyone hated that run so she and the other Lanterns that ended that run in different colors (B'dg was Blue and Iolande was a Star Sapphire) just went back to being Green off-panel.
And then people complain about status quo
Yeah
I prefer status quo over homies constantly destroying the Battery over and over again
The battery being destroyed almost is status quo at this point
I like Jess as a Yellow Lantern in theory, but Thorne didn't do anything with it, and changing B'dg and Iolande just came out of fricking nowhere, so I'm not exactly crying that they're back to Green.
Shit, I just realized Humphries is writing for GL #9 and there's a Jess variant cover, she might actually get a backup.
Will he finally fricking continue Red Dawn?
Never been much of a GL fan but I found some cheap copies of those Kyle trades a few months ago before the compendium came out. It genuinely made me a fan of his.I couldn't those books down. Hoping to snag that compendium after Christmas.
My experience was similar but old skool. Used to watch the old Superfriends cartoon and thought he was lame and his magic ring power just looked stupid.
Then I picked up some trades because I got interested by some crossover appearances in Superman comics and all the shit about willpower made him uber-cool, and colour spectrum stuff more interesting.
Picrel are not just great animated films, but films period that cover a lot of GL ground for n00bs. It's a sin the live action film wasn't using 'First Flight' as a shot-for-shot storyboard. Would have have elevated GL in status like the 2008 IRON MAN film did. What a huge frickup.
They literally had the blueprint for the best possible nromie-friendly introduction to Green Lantern and they fricking blew it.
They had it all and they blew it.
"It's like fricking up mashed potatoes."
- Some Internet homosexual.
Frustrating as hell when DC fricks up any superhero, but GL was really perplexing and just sad.
What I hate is that DC and WB are cowards, they won't take risks and wonder why Disney assraped them at the box office for a decade. It's the type of incompetence that makes a man frustrated to the point of ENJOYING their failures explode in their faces.
One of the reasons I have mad respect for the gays who made the First Flight animated film is motherfrickers were dying left and right, good guys, bad guys, and in the most horrific ways. They didn't pull any punches at all.
Then in live action we'll have Ryan Reynolds fighting some nebulous yellow CGI fart cloud in space. SMDH
Meanwhile Superman of all people is snapping someone's neck, Everything is so fricking arse-backwards it's unreal.
Other great thing about 'First Flight' is that it's notoriously difficult to give cosmic level powers any sense of scale, weight, or translate into any sense of real danger, etc. It's hard to know who's even winning. But take a look at this shit:
Also triumphant comeback after he and the whole Corps have been depowered by Sinestro, so dramatic weight too. It's like that kind of thing is asking too much these days, and we get perfunctory tell-don't-show pseudo-drama and gay little bumpersticker motivational speeches that we're supposed to give a frick about instead. I literally can't stand that shit anymore.
Never heard of this
Shocking how much ground it covers and so well in an hour and 17 minutes, (including credits), when the live action version couldn't do a fraction of it in two fricking hours.
Hal goes from flying a plane to saving the whole fricking universe, the Corps, and defeating Sinestro in that time. It's actually a pretty amazing piece of work the more you think about it. Great voice cast. I suspect the studio didn't give too much of a frick what the guys working on animated movies were doing at the time, so they were more free to just do what artists do.
Don't get me fricking started ... why does that guy keep getting work? Serious question.
Even the usual homosexuals had a problem with that, GL is one IP where there's nothing unnatural about picking some other colour. Also in 'First Flight' it's the Guardians/Corps who have a prejudice against humans, which puts Hal behind the eight ball from the start, so ironically has an anti-prejudice theme in there, but not a homosexual CURRENT YEAR one.
Good thing about this is they mano-a-mano trade blows in this and that's just as well done too. The variety of imaginative ways they utilise the rings is one of the best things about it. Especially Sinestro being uber-confident with it to the point he can fight multiple Lanterns at once like it's nothing, and the form of his constructs reflect his personality and experience.
Doesn’t Christopher Meloni play Hal in this? Honestly that’s a pretty good casting choice if I go off of all of the SVU I’ve watched. I’m surprised pic related hasn’t been edited to have him in the Green Lantern suit.
he does
The voice cast is great. Nobody you'd immediately think of, but they do a great job like everyone actually gave a frick. Victor Garber is a surprisingly good Sinestro. Kurtwood Smith as Kanjar Ro is notable and as good as you'd expect. Other indicators someone actually cared is the soundtrack:
I've seen criticism that Hal himself isn't fleshed out or the focus, but they just don't dick around with his origin story, and show him to be a brave and natural hero through-and-through with or without the ring. Even in a fish-out-of-water situation where he just found out aliens exist five seconds ago, he's not intimidated by the Guardians or Sinestro into being anything less.
It's a little uneven in places, like they had different people working on different parts of it, but it's full-on heroes vs villains kino. While live action DC movies were shitting up the big screen, the animated features were actually pretty awesome and being made for much less. GL was just the biggest contrast.
Emerald Knights came out the same year as the Ryan Reynolds shitfest. That was a four part anthology of Corps lore, held together by a story that goes back on the 'First Flight' timeline where Sinestro is still a Green Lantern and hasn't gone bad yet. You get to see him buddy-cop'ing it with Abin Sur, and Kilowog earning his stripes by being a badass. The two together are a great introduction to the Green Lantern character and universe, even if oversimplified, and exactly the kind of thing they should have been feeding to normies for the DCEU. Should have got the guys working on those films to write and storyboard the live action movie, add another half hour for more of Carol as the love interest and set up for future Sapphire, and you're done. You'd think it was fricking rocket science.
It has the best transformation sequence ever for a superhero.
>Meanwhile Superman of all people is snapping someone's neck, Everything is so fricking arse-backwards it's unreal.
Sneederman is a hack.
>Other great thing about 'First Flight' is that it's notoriously difficult to give cosmic level powers any sense of scale, weight, or translate into any sense of real danger, etc. It's hard to know who's even winning. But take a look at this shit:
Actually, I'm going the opposite route and say it's much harder for flying brick physical attackers to have any scale or sense of weight since it's just a matter of pummeling one another to the point of submission. With energy projectors, its much flashier and you can see the strain on them in many ways. DBZ for example always have the protagonists finish off their big bads with flashy energy attacks.
Naah, Secret Origin ending on a fight with an underpowered Atrocitus wasn't great. They'd have to tweak some parts to lead to a better third act.
Kyle was robbed because Batman and Superman editors denied him Hal and the GLC.
Kyle is a mary sue b***h
Kyle has a penis so therefore he can't be a Mary Sue.
Last time I checked the current culture states that your genitals don't decide your gender.
Did you read his solo series? Dude's Peter Parker tier in terms of suffering.
I fricking hate how it feels like decades since the four corpsmen have been together. GL post-Geoff might as well not exist.
Don't you like Simon and Jessica, anon?
Simon is an afterthought and Jessica's new fandom is cringe. All I really care about is Kyle, Hal and Guy.
First time I saw Simon and Jessica in a comic they got their ass kicked by the Suicide Squad.. I think. Its been a while since I read that run and yes I was cheering for the squad.
Differentanon. I vaguely recall him getting into a fight with Batman over his no guns thing, which was suprisingly not idiotic. I can't think of anything else hes' done. Maybe party in dubai.
I am mildly amused that he's a muslim, but blatanly a deliberatelyt shitty one.
The religious person is a hypocrite?
What a surprise.
We had Hal and Pals, didn't we?
>written by Robert Venditti
It was bad.
I wouldn't go that far, it wasn't perfect, but I thought it had its moments.
It had its moments but its largely responsible for shrinking the scope of the Green Lanterns.
What did Sinestro mean by this?
I'm going to be honest, this current run is slow, unoriginal and boring. It only seems good because Thorne's run killed the run.
It is goddamn annoying that we are a year into the run and it's like the story is still just starting. Like we are really on page 5 of the story of the first issue.
People who want to write comics need to read GL Rebirth. Geoff wasted no time getting the ball rolling. If it came out in 2023, it would get derailed midway by some moronic event.
I really loved Kyle GL, Wally Flash and Connor GA. What a time to be alive.
Why did they make Kyle so Mexican focused?
You know exactly why, they needed diversity so they decided to overly focus on something that never really mattered to Kyle so they could say they have a Mexican GL.
>needed diversity
>GL Corps
Fricking unreal how clueless these homosexuals are.
Diversity among the human lanterns, having 3 straight white men is problematic I guess.
Why only three straight white men? We need at least 10 human lanterns like that or else I'm not feeling represented.
I wonder if they'd have the guts to write a superhero origin story like this:
>John Stewart didn't become a Green Lantern until the Guardians decided they needed more 'diversity' in a Space Corps full of all kinds of weird aliens, so reprogrammed the rings to seek out minorities on planets even if those minorities didn't exhibit as much will and bravery as the most strong-willed and brave person on the planet they could detect when that person happened to be in the majority race.
>He holds up his ring and swears the new oath:
>On brightest day, in blackes... I mean darkes... I mean most-hard-to-see night, no evil shall (mostly) escape my sight, (looting a Best Buy is okay if you feel a Kilowog arrested someone unfairly or had his knee on their neck or something), let those who worship the White Right's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's light!
They really haven't outside of that one Tom King comic and the cover. Plus Jessica has them covered. Be thankful that Kyle isn't dropping spanglish.
>Be thankful that Kyle isn't dropping spanglish.
He is whenever King writes him lol, anyone remember that cameo in Heroes in Crisis where it looks like Kyle is trying to pray in Spanish but it makes absolutely no sense in any way?
Several times now. Pretty much every time King gets his hand on the character he is some superstitious mexican stereotype
I feel like I ask this a lot when it comes to comic writers, what is Tom King's damage?
He used to work for the CIA.
Supposedly. There's good reason to think that aspect of King's past may be exaggerated just a bit.
That explains everything and I'm not even bullshitting.
He seems like another comic writer that wishes that he was a serious character driven drama script writer for film or tv. Since he loves to hyper focus on trauma and people having serious PDST they cannot overcome and being suicidal over it. He wrote half the heroes of DC as a traumatized suicidal wreck.
CIA child molester.
Kyle looked more hapa than mutt to me.
Not gonna lie, I always though Steven Yuen would make the perfect Kyle VA. Wouldn't want him to turn into a hapa tho.
Ironically this was before the Mexican retcon from Winick
Kyle was able to cuck Hal later on with Carol.
Marz fricked up Kyle's story in two huge ways.
He would never ever stop with the constant teasing
>Are the corps coming back next month? Maybe the corps is back next month!
almost the entire run. He never fricking stopped with the fake corps, evil corps, dream corps bullshit.
And secondly he would never have Kyle get over his rookie, new guy who is not used to this shit status the entire 7 year run. It took the next writer coming on board for Kyle to finally quit being a whiny insecure freak that the rest of the hero community kind of soft hated for being a screwup whiny insecure freak
Is John Stewart the Miles Morales of his day?
Kyle is the Miles Morales of Hal Jordan. Dude existed to replace him. John Stewart is like... I don't know, Ben Reilly?
Guy Gardner is the Ben Reilly
Yes.
I like Jessica Cruz
Nah Hal's cooler
A moment of silence if you would be so kind.
Christ, I miss liking GA GL.
Why is it that when the Trinity fight cosmic bad guys, it's always boring as hell but when its the GLC doing it, it's fun and entertaining?
Gonna throw my GL elseworlds/soft reboot, sorta like throwing the audience in on the middle of a story
>Everything post Crisis happened the same all the way up to Zero Hour
>Hal goes Parallax and 40% of GLs die, 30% go MIA, and 30% survive.
>Hal's choices have a 10 year domino effect, called "The Lost Generation" where space crime and villainy expands
>Hal learns the error of his ways during a situation similar to Final Night and sacrifices himself
>Ganthet leads a new era of GLs, made up of noobs and the 30% survivors
>Kyle Rayner is one of the 1st in the lineup, alongside a very young alien girl who I'm gonna call "The Kid"
>John Stewart is apart of the lost generation, and has second thoughts about returning to GLC for a lot of reasons, but Ganthet encourages him to lead 2 new recruits who he sees high potential in
>Kyle and the Kid join John who acts as a mentor.
>Kyle: A extrovert 20 something who still struggles with the legacy he's following. Can be outgoing one moment and self conscious another
>The Kid: A wide eyed child who's amazed by everything, very impulsive and stubborn
>John: Grumpy, self serious man who's learning to open up more
That's pretty much the basis. Thoughts?
Sounds similar to the GLC run under Tomasi and Gibbons.
Honestly, when I marathoned the post crisis GL books 7 years back and got to Rebirth, those tomasi/gibbons stories were the most enjoyable. I love Hal Jordan, but I feel like Johns' book didn't have a wonder for adventure and character like GLC did, just events and lore
>but I feel like Johns' book didn't have a wonder for adventure and character like GLC did, just events and lore
He was more focused on making up for the thirty years of Hal getting mishandled.
I would be fine with Jo replacing John because I love black women with fat asses.
For now she's kinda just in the same weird limbo as the other 5G legacies that were supposed to replace the main heroes, out of these, only Jon and Yara got to keep making appearances.
I hear Yara was banished to the shadow realm
Nah, that would be Jace, no one at DC has been interested in doing anything with him ever since Ridley left. Wonder Woman writers on the other hand have been consistently using Yara in their stories, for better or for worse, and she might even get her own unique name soon.
5G is something everyone at DC wants to forget. Shit was pants on head moronic.
Most post 70s era legacy characters just sort of disappear after a while.
Remember when Simon just totally disappeared from every single DC book for about 4 years until Thorne brought him back? Not so much as a background spot in a splash page in an event the whole time. Now he has re-vanished from everything again. I imagine if not for Superhero Girls, Jess would have disappeared right along side him.
5G is no longer canon, the ball is back to Future's End/Beyond.
Future State was immediately proved not to happen, and Futures End was also already prevented way before that too, Beyon is back to just Earth 12.
then what is the new "canon" future now?
The one with the gay satanic flag burning thanks to dr hate?
There's never a canon future you dummy, did you start reading comics yesterday?
Legion was always a Canon future to DC as superman 1milion gaylord
The newest event had metropolis burning with a gay flag burning because that girl who sees the future that DC is shilling now and living with Conner Kent predicted it.
>Legion was always a Canon future
Which one? The Bendis one or the OG one?
I should've specified that there's no "canon" NEAR future, while far futures like the Legion, DC 1 Million, and the ones where characters like Booster, Impulse and Thawne come from are so far removed from the present that they're their own thing that doesn't usually change.
Bad near futures like Future State and Futures End are usually stopped from happening almost immediately.
>satanic
Hail Satan.
>The one with the gay satanic flag burning
The what
>Your honor, my client is innocent, a space bug did it.
Since this thread's going nowhere how about we brainstorm how to fix Kyle's shitty rogue gallery?
More muscle women
Grayven just needs a redesign, his premise is pretty good.
Magaan is one and done, a would be Sinestro nipped in the bud.
Fatality is a John villain, and a boring one at that.
Effigy is boring as hell because he's just a career criminal.
>Grayven just needs a redesign, his premise is pretty good.
Grayven should just be a Radahn expy
Parallax is too good. Nero is just boring in comparison.
>carries the absolute hell out of Kyle's run
Can't beat Chadallax.
Most of them are dead for one thing.
Sonar Jr has not appeared in 20 years.
Fatality is a brainwashed Sapphire, been one for about 16 years.
Effigy was killed and replaced with Human flame for some fricking reason
Magaan only appeared once
Grayven is also long dead
Nero is dead
Irrelevant isn't the same as dead, they're just in comic limbo.
>Fatality is a brainwashed Sapphire, been one for about 16 years.
Technically she isn't his enemy since her whole deal was about John Stewart destroying her home planet.
Fatality is John's rogue
And he's saved her twice from the Star Sapphires
Didn't she go back to the Sapphires a year after this?
Fricked the reply
I think that was the results of editors being ass at their job. But I don't remember her ever appearing again past this Valentines issue. Hopefully they don't pull EVERYTHING from Thornes run past John's new design but if they do Xan'Shi is back for moronic reasons.
Grayven gets mentioned a lot. What did people like so much about him?
I don't think anyone actually liked him. Just the idea of him is decent. Grayven himself sucks.
He is the closest to a Darkseid clone with relatively similar powers. Most New Gods are really disturbingly unimpressive. Majority of the time they are just regular people with a weird gadget or glowy robot arm, or something equally stupid. When they do have powers it's usually just superstrong. All the other Darkseid kids are just non flying bricks. (Which makes Grayven being Darkseid Jr extra weird) Grayven having a lot of the eye laser powers makes him stand out.
Orion and Kalibak were both conceived before Darkseid (who was still Uxas) fully transformed into what he his today. It kind of makes sense that they didn't inherit the abilities that their father didn't get until later.
Fatality needs to go on a cosmic quest to find the lost survivors of Xanshi and revive their home and races. Shit would be cash af.
Didn't Thorne bring back Xanshi?
And also imply Katma Tui was alive again?
Did anyone read that shit? Is anyone even aware of what happened in that book?
I did not read that shit, and regardless, a cosmic quest to restore Xanshi is the character arc Fatality needs.
there is only 4 human lanterns. frick simon, frick this ugly chick with the ass glasses, and frick jess (in the ass)
Hal Jordan's accomplishments the last 20 years are.. he beat a child in a fanfiction fight
now tell me what kyle did besides being mexican now
Last twenty years? Last good DC run + making Bencucks seethe.
Cease thy homosexualry.
Even if he got a lot of hate for winning a fanfic fight where he gets stomped
We love our boy Hal
Kyle Rayner never should have ever existed.
DEAL. WITH. IT.
Kyle has the best dynamic with best boy Guy. Hal is too similar and John is too boring.
This, Guy going off the fricking deep end with a red ring during Blackest Night when Kyle died for a minute felt very genuine because they're so believable as bros.
When did they make Kyle brown
There's this strange fixation in certain fanart communities that all Latinos are dark skinned. Even though Kyle's mixed and even then there are still full blooded Latinos who are white as it's a widened heritage not just a simple skin color thing. I know a 1 blonde haired blue eyed kid who speaks with a natural accent
Fanart communities? Try just about every major media company and artist working in LA right now. There is a modern fixation among liberal minded people that only Europeans and North Americans are light skinned, and absolutely everyone else in the world is varying shades of brown.
And they are taking this very old 19th century styled bit of racism, under the assumption that they are being very much not-racist. That any depiction of alight skinned person from Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Libya, Mexico, Brazil, or Argentina is all the work of evil racist white people whitewashing them. Brits are very bad about this too for some reason. They really cannot wrap their heads around the idea of someone from Columbia being anything but a dark brown Mexican.
The American concept of the Latino race thing helps push this concept. when the American psyche consistently pushes the idea that Spanish last name is a race separate from white, they naturally assume the whole nation must be brown.
Carol would win btw
Carol who? Danvers? Star Sapphire?
This fight would be extra dumb since they are both impulsive morons that faceroll into danger without thinking. And usually only win by getting pissed off enough to go super saiyan and overpowering their opponent.
Everyone else rolls their eyes at the two bright glowing dumbshits slugging it out for no reason either can remember.
I just watched the opening to the 2011 movie and almost died of boredom right there:
How could this possibly be this awful?
>in order for kyle to work out, everyone had to be killed off and he was labeled the chosen one
>gets god powers
>hal comes back and proves to be better in every way
>kyle gets his own book for a while
>cancelled
>kyle gets god powers
>cancelled
>meanwhile hal keeps green lantern going and doesn't need god powers to btfo all his enemies
hal jordan is green lantern
kyle rayner is kyle rayner
NOOOOOO WE CAN'T HAVE ANY PROGRESSION! THE STATUS QUO MUST BE MAINTAINED!
ALSO FRICK THE STATUS QUO
Nah frick you, ruining Hal and killing off the GLC was a stupid idea in 1994 and it’s a stupid idea in 2023.
Pretty much. Capeshit fans are never happy.
Frick off, the fans hated Emerald Twilight.
It gave us some nice things at least.
>Green Lantern: Emerald Twilight/A New Dawn (TPB collects Green Lantern Vol. 3 #48-55)- This trade features Hal Jordan's fall, the destruction of the Green Lantern Corps, and Kyle Rayner's first adventures as Green Lantern.
>Green Lantern (Vol. 3) #0- This single issue features a confrontation between the apparently crazy Hal Jordan and new GL Kyle Rayner. I don't know if this is in any TPBs or not, but it is an amazing issue, definitively crowning Kyle Rayner as the new GL.
>Green Lantern: New Journey, Old Path (TPB that collects Green Lantern Vol. 3 #129-136): This collection features Kyle Rayner going up against a mad man name Nero who has a yellow power ring. Nero is one of the toughest opponents Kyle ever faced during his time as the only GL.
>Green Lantern: The Power of Ion (TPB that collects Green Lantern Vol. 3 #142-150): In this collection, Kyle Rayner gains god-like powers after another confrontation with Nero. This story is about how Kyle uses his powers and what he ultimately decides he should do with them.
>Green Lantern: New Guardians: The Ring Bearer (TPB that collects Green Lantern: New Guardians #1-7)- This trade collects the first story arc of Kyle's own series in the New 52. Rings from several different Lantern Corps are leaving their owners in order to come to Kyle, who has no idea why this is happening. Members of the other corps are none to happy about it either. Kyle and this motley group of representatives from each of the different lantern corps aim to get to the bottom of this mystery.
I always liked the Knight Lantern look
Forgot pic
great art.
Shame they ruined him
He's better than ever now
I can’t believe it’s been a decade since Green Lantern was the star comic of DC…
I wish they focused more on Kyle's career as a comic artist. Seems like a great setting for some funny meta stories.
When was the last time he had a career? It seems like he ditched Earth around Rebirth and never really came back or bothered again. His entire side cast vanished after that.
Any thoughts on Razer being canon now?
I’m fine with it in concept, but I think it’s better suited to a GLC comic because we still don’t know what the frick is going on and the GLC still haven’t been reunited.
really like this book
After getting used to his look in GL TAS, him showing his hair is very jarring to me.
Like, wear a fricking hat or something.
his next canon appearance in relation to GL TAS was in young justice, which continued his plot
he was showing his hair there
Well, I don't watch YJ, so that doesn't count.
Well, I watch YJ, so that counts.
It was weird then and it's weird now.
Was there a storytime of the new issue?
I don't even know. I don't know what the frick is going on in this book and it has been a year now. They just decided to let us know that Kilowog is fake. We still just get little more than Hal being a jobless loser fricking around town....for a goddamn year.
Why are comics so fricking slow now? I quit Action comics when it was Superman fricking around on Warworld for a year and a half. I just lost interest in the story going in circles and not progressing for too damn long and I quit.
Dunno why so many zoomers hate Kyle. They aren't old enough to be around for HEAT.
>grrrr my poochie isn't as popular as Hal grrrrr
lol
I'm not even a Hal hater, but there's really nothing left to be done with the character. Shafting Kyle helped kill off legacy characters in DC forever.
Didn't Kyle get dropped along with...every? 90s era legacy character though? It's not like he alone was targeted.
DC also dropped Wally, Arsenal, Kon El for a good 20 or so years, 90s Supergirl, Zauriel, Azrael, amazon Artemas, Tim Drake for a decade, Impulse, Star Girl, and the entire cast of JSA All Stars stopped existing a decade ago and are still gone.
Kyle didn't even get dropped though, sure he wasn't THE Green Lantern anymore after Rebirth, but he had a ton of good stories during Johns' run, particularly all the stuff with him and Guy in GLC.
It wasn't until DC didn't know what the frick to do with the line after Johns wrapped up Blackest Night that shit started going sideways, and even then he became White Lantern Jesus and got to frick Hal's girlfriend.
>popular as Hal
>thinking Hal Jordan is popular in 2023
Hahahahahaha
The hamboigahs threads when this issue dropped were one of the best times to be on Cinemaphile hands-down.
>hal
>popular
look man i like him but this is like fighting over scraps
Hal, or GL as a whole was only really popular during John's run in the late 00s. Also helped along by Bazzinga show constantly referencing the symbol.
every time i remember how much of green lantern's survival in public consciousness is owed to the bazinger show I feel ill
Kyle was the first Green Lantern I really got to know, mainly through Grant Morrison's run on JLA. Thought he was pretty cool, and I was bummed he got sidelined to give Hal a comeback.
>Green Lantern
What a frickin chump
Is Kyle the worst comic boyfriend of all time?
>drew a naked lady who kept hitting on him in his apartment like a dumbass and then was shocked and angry when Donna got mad at a horny naked lady being in his apartment
>cheated on Jade by kissing Donna and was prepared to dump Jade if Donna remembered their time together
>left Jade alone for months, not bothering to check in on her or talk to her, while she was paying for their apartment alone, then getting shocked and angry when she had moved on from him
>initially lied to Soranik about seeing her in the Star Sapphire crystal, when he actually saw Jade (ie revealing Jade his ~true love~, not Soranik) then pikachu face'd when Soranik found out the truth later and was mad she got lied to
>cheated on Carol with Kalista
>found out he had a future son with Soranik right before said son was killed for being evil, hid that from her, and then was shocked when Soranik was furious when she found out he was her son after doing an autopsy on him
It’s sad cus I liked his romance with Soranik.
Yeah, fricking up their relationship was one of the most moronic things they did with Kyle in that era.
does getting his first girlfriend fridged five issues into his run count?
What could have been
Just sharing this link for an old GL fansite from the late 90s because I knew you guys would like it.

Holy fricking soul
Reminds me Hal had more in common with Cowgirl but Carol's got to be endgame
Currently Carol is engaged to some other dude so I wonder how Hal will fix that.
