I always thought it would be cool to revamp the color corps as a unified peacekeeping organization.
Being a peacekeeper is about juggling the sometimes paradoxical duties of protecting the innocent and punishing the guilty. Just like how the colors are on a spectrum from narrow wavelength to wide wavelength, the corps would exist on a spectrum between these two ideals.

How would the Latern corps not be accussed of overstepping their boundaries with these? Not everyone would agree to them as protectors, and Red and Yellow (espically Yellow alone) would be put the entire corps into bad light, regardless of how much good they others might do.

By adhering to a strict doctrine of proportionality. A planet doesn't get downgraded from Green to Yellow unless they've done something really fricked up that warrants the harsher treatment.
The combined corps' upper management has their thumb on the pulse of galactic public opinion and can tell which actions the people will praise and which they will condemn. They're good at balancing public relations with their own ideals of justice.

These two would be major dealbreakers if we use logic. Most sane species would never give the Reds a fraction of juristriction over any Sector. I feel like the Star Sapphires desperately need to expand beyond romantic love, they already toyed with the idea when Kryb wanted her babies back, but because of the lack of focus on them, they haven't truly explored the idea of non-romantic love.
