CGI are not cheap, buttheads. Arc was a colossal failure and a money burner.
Then why the use of CGI in the first place?
CGI tends to have higher upfront costs as it costs more to create the models and sets but lower long term costs as those digital models and sets can be reused repeatedly.
The irony is that to be the most affordable a CGI needs to have as few models necessary and run for as long as possible.
It is not that traditional animation can't do hyper-detailed designs but that it will take to long to be viable.
The biggest advantage of modern 3D CGI is that you can scrap the script and still use pretty much all the models and animation already created.
Models are expensive so even when you can crap them, they are still spicy investments. D2 army in the manga have many customized getter robots, meanwhile the anime version only have 1 mass produced Getter Dragon copy pasted all over. And for 2D, it is hard to do hyper detailed designs. You can see still key frames with high details but not when the characters/mecha were in action. They can be feasible, sure, but not in the same way CGI perform.

That is why I said it is possible but takes too long and cost to much to be viable currently. Lazy and low off detail tween frames are cheap and fast. You can actually see some very detailed action scenes in stuff from the Golden Age of OVAs and the Disney Renaissance when Animation companies had the money, time and skill to actually animate that stuff to high detail levels. Sunrise was pretty famous for high detail in their OVAs, Movies and those TV series episodes they put a lot of money into.

Not really. CGI animation is just as long to make, generally a fully cgi 2 hours movie takes years to make. However, if you notice this one thing, is that cgi models maintain the character and mechanical design's detail. 2D animation cannot put Gyobu's hyper detailed robots design to life, but cgi however, can.

Kodansha mixed Shounen Jump run and TV Magazine run into one series in their tankobons and also cut the ending of Z and placed it in the first volume of Great.
It's not too bad, honestly, just continue with keeping this in mind. Anime parts are episodic in nature anyway.

The version that got translated on the internet is a fricked edition that mixed 2 different mangas set in different continuities (the shonen jump version, which was the original, and the tv magazine version, which was based on the anime).
The original shonen jump manga for some reason got (at least in the version translated on the internet) the ending in the first volume of Great Mazinger.
The original manga continuity has no Boss Borot or Diana A and ends when Koji defeats Dr.Hell
Forgot to add that in the original manga continuity there is no Great Mazinger. The Great Mazinger manga follows the one from either the TV magazine version or the anime.
The original Jump edition of Mazinger ends with Koji telling the readers to keep watching their adventures on TV. The Great Mazinger ending was an expansion of the final chapter done years later.

Grendizer is really popular in middle east. So there are some theories that the guy actually funded this anime. Suddently a Dynamic anime having every superstar staff work on it, especially when you look back at their more popular IP - Getter Robo and how the latest installment turned out.

Does anyone have the Infinitism Grendizer? I'm unsure whether to get him now and give Z and Great a new friend, or bandwagon after the show's out. I've read the Nagai mangas and I'm trying to go through Ota's stuff. Grendizer has a fun design but I'm not personally attached to it yet
