I've been watching Kojak reruns and its put me in the mood for a thread for the appreciation of all things gritty and 70s.

Films, TV, so long as its dirty and 70s its welcome here.
Will New York ever be this filthy again?
Robert Shaw was GOAT. I didn't hate the remake with Travolta or Denzel either
Really what was the deal with New York in the 70s and how bad was it really and how and when did it change?
Its manufacturing sector died and it went into economic decline before it bounced back and reinvented itself as a center for financial sector shenanigans.
Basically it was like Detroit for a while.
I actually like the 90s revival of this style
because the restrictions of the 70s were gone and the Janet Jackson Super Bowl show hadn't happened yet, there was regular rear nudity and implied side breasts and this was on regular network television
You mean like NYPD Blue?
Jesus Christ top right ass is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen
Sure this was a female???
ywnbaw buy rope
>Kojak
Kojak is one of those fun series where you get to see a lot of actors you recognize at the very start of their career. I watched the pilot the other day and it had Harvey Keitel in it.
Columbo is like that as well, lots of familiar faces making appearances.
>All the stars are here
Spock and Kirk both murder people on Columbo. Kirk twice.
Young Spielberg directed second or third in the series (one writer murders the other).
Jonathan Demme directed the restaurant one with Louis Jourdan
that was with the guy from Adam-12?
Yes, Martin Milner
isnt stallone in some kojak episode
and James Woods and Richard Gere, lots of people. A lot of smaller stars too, I saw Marc Ailmo the guy who played Gul Dukat on Star Trek DS9 on an episode the other day, Hector Elizondo is the murder in the episode I'm watching now. Its one of those shows where you're always recognizing the guest stars even if you don't know who they are.
extremely underrated. the best part of the show is how fricking condescending he's towards mob bosses and other pieces of shit
Telly Savalas in general is underrated. He's one of those stars that was big in his time but who's largely been forgotten by modern audiences and its a shame because he's great.
he was also the best Blofeld
He was great in Kelly's Heroes.
>Oddball? HE'S A FREAK!!
my favorite kojak condescension moment is him deriding a dead hooker
Anyone ever see The Streets of San Francisco? Ran for five seasons (120 eps), co-starred Michael Douglas, and I must admit I'd never heard of it until I looked at a list of 70's TV series to try and jog my memory. Looks to be worth checking out.
Are you all literal boomers ITT or something? How would anyone watch these shows?
I've got a satellite and there's a new network I'm getting called GET TV. I've been watching Kojak and the Rockford files on it. I'm not sure where you'd stream it.
enjoy ur capeslop zoomie
They have Kojak on at the bar where I like to hang out. The sound is usually off but I can get the gist of it.
Karl Malden is pretty great, its probably good.
Still one of the best intro songs imo. I used to stay up late and watch this with my dad when I was little. Comfy times.
Absolute kino.
MEtv, and H&I play boomerkino as well.
Momma's apple pie, the 4th of July, SHE WAS A HOOKER
>Crocker was too greeeen to see it
Norm's love for shitty old tv shows almost makes them worth watching, until you realize that boomers aren't just moronic from only being the genetic leftovers from the war. israelites went full throttle once they regrouped and worked hard to make the next generation as dumb as possible.
It's more light hearted than gritty but Rockford Files was great. They still play it on the oldies tv station where I live
I've been watching an episode here and there recently. Looks great in 1080p. Still a fun show.
>Kojak
For me it's Kolchak the Nightstalker
Kolchak > Kojack
For me it's Crime Story.
Dennis Farina, Runaway and nuclear explosions.
great show but extremely polished not gritty, and not 70s. I think the cover version of Runaway in the credits is better than the original
The world is a business, Mr. Beale.
>gets shot by Mark Wahlberg

Jesus, I completely forgot he was in that.
Weird connection but I was watching an episode of Rockford Files the other day called "Profit and Loss" and Ned Beatty plays almost the exact same creepy CEO character he does in Network. The episode was even filmed the same year as Network although I'm not sure which part Beatty played first.
>Get Carter
>Deliverance
>Serpico
>Rocky
>Race With The Devil
The 70s were kino
Friedkin is a technical master, but his aesthetic is gritty. I think The French Connection and Sorcerer should be allowed
1. Cassavetes
2. Altman
3. Peckinpah
4. Friedkin
imo
do you have anything to back that up, or just feelings?
>imo
You didn't identify whether it was a humble or a passionate opinion. Maybe you put the first four directors that came to mind, or maybe you're a great film critic.
What about Ashby?
Haven't seen anything he did.
Go and watch The Last Detail then
Was looking for something to watch, so I'll do it rn.
It's a great flick. You'll enjoy.
im going to watch the first episode now. ive never seen it but i love columbo. what am i in for?
HOLY SHIT THEY MADE A WOJACK MOVIE?!
Wait are you telling me the coincidental resemblance to this bald fricker is why Wojaks are called Wojaks?
Some English kino
Couple of years ago a buddy and I started rewatching local cop shows from the 70s and 80s (northern europe).
Everyone smoking basically everywhere, drinking on duty is just normal, scumbags being buttholes go mano a mano with the hero cops and get a knuckle sandwich before being arrested.
Then the hero cop has a whiskey and a cigarette and hooks up with some dame.
Good times.
